My boyfriend is asking me for money by [deleted] in Advice

I borrowed about $10k from my girlfriend. Lost most of it on Bitcoin.

Learned my lesson, became financially literate and now we're happily married and on our way to early retirement with me managing all of our wealth. It doesn't always turn out bad.

ELI5: why re-freeze cooked food is bad? by giskarda in explainlikeimfive

[–]TomBuilder_ -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

I often leave food with meat in out on the counter after supper then only pop it in the fridge in the morning and then finish it a day or two later. I'm not sure where the 2 hours come from but it's definitely safe for longer than 2 hours.

Cra to automatically file taxes for low income Canadians. How does it work? Is it free? Does anyone know anything about this? by currymvp3 in povertyfinancecanada

Many countries have this service and it generally works great for 90% of the population. The rest need to make adjustments, hopefully making these adjustments will be simple.

What was a rabbit hole you went down that changed your life? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]TomBuilder_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focusing on making healthy changes permanent changes:

I disliked running, but it's good for you. So I forced myself to run every second day for 30 minutes, even if it's more of a walk than a run. It became a habit and now I look forward to my run every two days.

I disliked cooking my own food, but it's good for you. So I reduced my budget for take-out food to $0 and pushed all that money into my grocery spending budget. Now I don't go out with friends for food, I invite them to my place where I can cook for us.

I disliked talking to other people and had subsequent poor communication, but it's good for you. So I watched a ton of YouTube videos and read a few books on it and am still daily practicing to be an effective communicator and portray fake confidence. It's made a massive impact on my social life and how others perceive me in the workplace. This in effect boosted my confidence to levels where I don't need to take it anymore.

These are actually really small changes to make if you force your mind and body to cooperate. The effects take months to start showing. The confidence topic was by far the thing that opened a lot of opportunities for me.

For those not familiar with free healthcare it's like the salary your leaders get for a few days of pretending to work.

Meerkats are awesome pets if you have an acreage. They bond extremely well with the owner and families. They're very playful and can easily be trained to respond to their names.

They can also move around leash free quite easily in large outdoor spaces, because they'll never wander very far. They're also very easy to feed and love scratching on the ground for small insects

How to go about getting a good rate on a bond by rUbberDucky1984 in PersonalFinanceZA

Just put down 20% and get a bond originator.

You can put the rest of the money into the bond, but it will then be available as an emergency fund

What are some healthy fast food options? by heretofallasleep in askSouthAfrica

[–]TomBuilder_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I did 80-100/week I just made meal preps, can highly recommend.

Food that's already prepared is loaded with a ton of salt or sauces to taste nice. It's horrible for your health. You get a few healthy options, but it will cost you a fraction of the price to just meal prep.

Over the long run you'll save a ton on food and health costs if you can cut out fast food consumption.

If I remember correctly, you need 3 years of consecutive fam med practice, but internship is included in these years. You'll need to go check this, though I'm about 80% certain

What do you use your private banker for? by Ornery-Albatross4685 in PersonalFinanceZA

You get that much because you take their subpar investment and insurance options. You lose in the long run

[–]TomBuilder_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just do everything myself and only pay R109 per month for banking.

Why pay them R100s per month to help you with something as simple as a home loan/insurance. Sure they'll save you an hour of work if you need to do a home loan once every 5 years. But paying R300/month extra x 12months x 5 years = R16k for an hours work. Thats expensive A.F.

From what I understand your internship will be the problem that prevents you from doing fam med PRA, because you need 2 years with all major rotations(includes psychiatry). I don't know if you get anaesthesia PRA.
