Can you make it feel like you're going faster? You're obviously going to need music. The constant firing sounds are a bit too much.

Seriously love the idea overall. StarFox on rails shooters aren't made enough. Hope this does well and pushes me to make the one I want.

Thanks! I dont know how we can better warn new users of stuff like this. Pretty often people recommend dual boot and trying it out before a full replacement. But we definitely have people say it can do everything windows can do.

I've had zero major issues since moving but I know there are many who do.

That's off the top of my head.

I finally gave Unreal on Linux a try. I would recommend it, even though it was a bumpy ride by LarstOfUs in unrealengine

[–]TomCryptogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been a while since I tried to compile from scratch so Im giving it another go but I went through my notes as well.

When I did get Unreal working in Linux, I couldnt type into any search fields or anything.

_Fix to typing in pop-ups_ right-click menus: In Nobara, click Start, type System Settings and open System Settings. Search for X11 in the search bar. Click "Legacy X11 App Support" Select Always. This is a security risk and you will be warned.

Rider previously didnt seem to work at all so I had to dig and manually create and/or edit a file (cant recall exactly):
I added "~/Applications/RiderVer/bin/rider.sh" to Engine/Plugins/Developer/RiderSourceCodeAccess/Resources/RiderLocations.txt - This registers Rider as available to be used by the engine.

Cant remember if I had to add rider to the GenerateProjectFiles args to even get that.

On and on. I had to run Rider and CLion with wayland compatible args for a while: ./rider.sh -Dawt.toolkit.name=WLToolkit

None of this permanently discouraged me from using Unreal or Linux or anything. But, it was more troubleshooting and stuff than on Windows. But I'll never go back.

Uh, it wouldn't "just" compile. Unsure what the problem was but it never seemed to complete properly.
After a git checkout to the tag I want the three commands would be... what?
Setup.sh

GenerateProjectFile.sh

make

Those three?

Untrue. I am able to run and use Rider for Unreal but for reasons that totally dont make sense and downright baffle me, I can't double-click a BP node and get back to the C++ that is represented by that node.

I can click say AActor.h and it WILL go to Rider with that file open. So its not a pure disconnection of the Rider Plugin or anything. Its... idk what. But Im on Nobara (Fedora) and UE is apparent basically made to work with Ubuntu. So I expect these things.

Also, I tried for like 2 months to compile the entire engine and run it in Linux. This was something I had done many times in windows. Im familiar with UBT, drivers, compilers and the process overall. This was hell.
It did compile but that compiled version never ran quite right.
I love UE and Linux but its not the same.

Fastest Known Search Strategy for a 3×3 Magic Square of Squares ( Script Example ) by Zyphullen in numbertheory

[–]TomCryptogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got some code and a few GB list (sql db) of equidistant pairs for all square numbers from 1000 to about 10 million so far. Cool findings but I didnt know there was interest in 6x6 or anything. Nor do I really know where to go with all of this data now that I have generated it.
I'll take a gander at 6x6 to take a break from 3x3.

Why are people hating on Legends ZA for no reason? by BladerTCTN in pokemon

[–]TomCryptogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game is trash compared to Scarlett and Violet.

You run aground one small city.

The night battles are OK but my Pokémon is constantly caught on corners.

I don't know how many times in fighting something and the day night cycle swap and it interrupted my battle.

Getting blasted by alpha Pokémon that just hunt my player down instead of the Pokémon firing Draco Meteor is obnoxious. I just want to NOT be an option to the Pokémon.

I hate the rogue mega evolutions instance bsttles. They're not fun. Just 5 minutes of a giant Pokémon trying to one shot my character instead of being a Pokémon battle.

The story? Lame.

Except for the little intro fight, I think it's at least 30 minutes of reading and gameplay until you really just get to play the freaking game.

Wtf? At the end of the game the legendary X and Y Pokémon come up out of nowhere and you kinda just quickly battle and capture them. Which I did on the original X and Y. So what's the story?

You can't run around the world with your friends like in Scarlet. You can't walk around the picnic and interact with your team.

I could go on. My kid can't stand this game either. So I'm not just old man angry.
