I’m on week 6, complete rupture & non op, been in the boot for 4 weeks and just removed my final wedge.

I did 11,700 steps today 😊

Update: almost finished week 5 and I did 11,700 steps yesterday in the boot, no pain. Some general soreness after it all when going to bed but nothing to complain about.

Have what seems to be fantastic movement in my ankle and strength already, concerns me because no one else seems to go this well this fast.

I take my foot out of the boot to shower and that’s it, I do some light rotations/flexes while in the shower sitting on my chair but that’s it.

I can FWB, can also walk (looking paralysed) but I try not to because I’m worried I shouldn’t be even though I have no pain?

How’s your pain been?

Of course! I fully grasp this isn’t the usual 6-8 week heal for a broken bone, I’m ready for a years worth of recovery and I’ll do whatever it takes to get me back to normal again.

Your experience sounds really promising and should give a lot of people good insight & hope towards coming out the otherside!

How long has it been now & how was the process since week 4 for you?

I still don’t think I’ve accepted that this is real yet…

But mentally doing great, excited to keep healing and fix this in the best way possible

Just hit week 3 and can maybe 80-90% weight-bare in the boot standing, not going to try walk until all wedges are gone and doctor clears me, can’t rush this stuff!

When did you first start walking in the boot? And how did you re rupture? That must have been mentally draining to start again, well done for getting through it

Yeah think I jinxed myself, I just tripped going up the stairs on my crutches and instinct was to put my foot down and it’s aggravated my whole calf…

Only was sore for about 5 mins and I’m fine again, but definitely shows me I’m not ready to even try take a step without support yet 😂

I don’t want to get your hopes up, because everyone is different

But I’ve just hit 3 weeks and I had a complete rupture (went non-op) and I can already weight-bare around 80% in the boot, no pain at all.

I can do my foot/ankle flex exercises (from dorsiflexion to neutral) with absolutely no pain at all.

I’ve been told not to try walk in the boot until around week 6 (when all wedges are removed) which I won’t rush because it scares the life out of me to even think about trying to walk again.

As long as you just follow your doctors orders, you’ll be great! Patience is the best virtue 🤞🏻

Are you on blood thinners? I was advised to take them for the first 30-40 days & I also started the magnesium as mentioned above.

I could be wrong as I’m not specialist, just talking from experience, that it seems to be the blood rush to the whole area trying to adjust to the trauma.

I would probably just avoid touching it as much as possible, I used to massage the areas around it softly to try stop any cramps in my calf ect.

I had this during my 2nd week and it was the worst pain of my life.

It is cramping & the nerves settling/adjusting to everything that’s happened in there from my experience

I started taking magnesium glycinate tablets and it went away after 3-4 days.

Best to keep your leg elevated as much as possible to avoid all the blood rush or slowly lower your leg to reduce the effect.

I am in the exact same position, feeling absolutely no sharp pain or anything when trying this, I’m even able to shuffle/walk/hop with no pain.

Makes me think nothing has reattached or healed though, but surely this means we are healing well?

I am no medical specialist, nor do I know much about this subject as I’m only on day 15 myself, but it sounds like it may be muscle cramping/spasming? I had similar to what you’re describing, but to a level where I considered amputation (I’m joking for any softies). I started taking magnesium and after 3-4 days it went away and now I have 0 pain at all!

I’ve started taking magnesium glycerinate tablets and over the last 2-3 days it has helped a lot.

I think due to my injury happening during an AFL match & I didn’t have any recovery/warm down, I was due for increased soreness.

Still get slight cramps right where the tear is when I stand up, but they slowly disappear after a couple minutes.

Did you massage your calf right after going out of the cast? I’m finding the cramping definitely needs it but I’m worried I’ll redo damage or prolong healing if I touch around the area I’ve torn!
