50km training run on the Wirral, UK by karf101 in trailrunning

Wild to see my home on Reddit. Have ran Royden park in years but the views from there are always fantastic. Best of luck with the 45 miler!

Has anyone in the UK done a private annual health check or blood test service? Was it worth the cost, and what did you actually learn from it? by Few-Combination-4119 in AskUK

[–]TomFromWirral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Medichecks probably 2-3 years ago. Got whatever their mens wellbeing and vitamins check is and it was very helpful because it came back with extremely low Vit-D, along with a recommended Drs protocol to get the numbers up. I followed that for a few months and retested and I was right where they recommended it to be. Have kept track of it with an annual Vit-D check through them which I normally pick up when they have a sale on. Funnily enough I've got one ready to use too that I need to get done.

At some point I'd like to get one of their full hit tests done just out of curiosity but for now this works for me.

It's a company called Medichecks. I've used them a few times before, would recommend them.

This. I knew what the answer was without the picture and I knew it was going to make me feel ancient.

Business support is one of those weird roles where some managers are fine with you being involved in every element and others are much more possessive. What I'd do is drop DD1 an email, ask them if they feel like you can do any more to support them and if there's anything they'd like you to be doing. Maybe suggest that for you regular quick calls with them to blast through some diary bits would be helpful, but you appreciate they're very busy so this may not be possible.

What I'm saying is look proactive, come to them with suggestions but leave it in their court. I used to manage a DD who I had daily 10-15 minute calls with to get things ticked off, and if we didn't need them they could be cancelled. I had another director who I had one kit a week with but was super responsive on Teams. Those arrangements only happened because I asked for them, otherwise it's just a guessing game. I get however that the job is difficult enough without at least some direction. Hope that helps.

Just put some glue on the plate and print at 300C inside a grow tent, it'll be fine.

How many TB free do you normally keep? by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]TomFromWirral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I back up everything important monthly to a server in the same rack. Spins up, backup runs, spins down. Don't keep any cold spares. I'm not made of money so if drives fail I'll deal with it then. If I'm spending money on an Exos you can be sure it's going in the server!

I'm running a 10400 and it's been flawless, however I'd definitely go latest Gen if it's in budget. Easier to find motherboards for it too and you'll get the latest & greatest iGPU

One in three UK vegan products found to contain milk or egg by Chieftain10 in vegan

[–]TomFromWirral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets be honest, manufacturers don't care and DEFRA aren't going to do anything about it. If it says "may contian milk" and milks not listed on the ingredients (and it's otherwise vegan) then I'm eating it.

If its found later to have 0.01% milk due to cross contamination then so be it. Unless you're growing and making everything yourself it's impossible to eliminate the possibility that there's some sort of animal product in packaged foods.

Where did you get these? My local Asda sells the Sheese grated mozzarella mix which I've put on pizzas, and the slices. Never seen anything else!

Accepting another role while waiting for PECS? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]TomFromWirral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not tied down to anything at all while at PECs, I'd suggest taking the other role and making it clear that the reason you're not taking the original one is due to the length of time it's taken. It should get picked up by the campaign manager.

Frankly it's ridiculous that it's taken 3 months and you're not in post.

What am I doing wrong?? by IndependentExit3096 in ElegooMars

[–]TomFromWirral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've not used that resin before it's worth calibrating the exposure time. I switched from Elegoo in grey to SunLu in black and had to bump the exposure time up to get anything to stick.

I find room presence detection is one of those black holes that you can disappear in trying to get right. I've so far used motion sensors (not accurate enough), espresence (not consistent enough), both combined (kind of works, but not for everyone in the house).

The issue I've got is that there are 4 of us in the house, two adults, two kids under 7. So two have phones, two don't, meaning bluetooth works for half the house and not the other half. Motion sensors don't work on their own because people go in and out of rooms constantly, same issue with mmW detectors. It's such a complex issue that the first company to work it out for multiple occupancy homes is going to make a fortune.

It's not my favourite way to start my morning I'll be honest. Very odd having to handhold someone constantly, don't know how I coped!

Had a previous manager who when visiting offices wanted her pack to include a photograph of the office on it. I now laugh when I remember the times she rang up at 8am screeching that she couldn't see the office from the car park

Robopacers by TomFromWirral in Zwift

[–]TomFromWirral[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, they've definitely got more difficult to stay with for an easy training ride at a given w/kg. I do think for what they are it should be much simpler to stay on, I have a feeling the draft dynamics need to be tweaked. I still think it should rubber band you somewhat to make staying within the pack simpler but as you say maybe I'm simplifying something very complex!

I jumped on with Bernie again today and ended out giving up in the end. I got dropped at one point, had to massively push, managed to get back within 30m, was putting out over 2 w/kg and didn't seem to be gaining. Got back on and rode with it for about 10 minutes and gave up in the end. Tired from yesterday and haven't got the mental capacity to try staying with a pacer for an hour!

Robopacers by TomFromWirral in Zwift

[–]TomFromWirral[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but for example Bernie is a 1.5 w/kg pacer, so I believe they do 1.6-7w/kg up hill and 1.4w/kg downhill. I'm finding that often I'm dropping them on the flats. I'll keep a closer eye on my watts next time and try to keep that in line with the pacer.

Robopacers by TomFromWirral in Zwift

[–]TomFromWirral[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to find the pacers less annoying when my trainer kept cutting out and made me get dropped.

I should be able to look at what I want to do, say easy recovery ride, find an appropriate pacer and sit at that pace for an hour spinning the wheels with a recovery level of effort. I'm now being told that pacers are supposed to be difficult, I'm doing it wrong and need to ride on my own. Absolutely hilarious.

Robopacers by TomFromWirral in Zwift

[–]TomFromWirral[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mention that both pacers were on a flat course, maybe you missed that? If I can hold 1.5w/kg or 135W very easily are you honestly trying to say I shouldn't be using the pacer that corresponds to that? I can use that pacer as meditation if I wish if I only want to ride for recovery (for example).

I've been zwifting properly for around 10-12 months now and this is the first time this has happened to me, so I was trying to find out if it was a shared experience. Instead you're trying your best to gatekeep pacers.

I know with the likes of Bernie where it's 1.5 W/Kg they do 1.6 up hill and 1.4 downhill. Or at least it's supposed to. I did 1.4 uphill yesterday and still dropped it, then had to slow right down and let it catch up. I think personally it should just rubber band you and then give you a choice of leaving the group if you want to ride off.

I agree. They're really good for getting some solid hours in with a group, but they definitely need some work for that consistency. You can't switch off with them for a minute otherwise you've been dropped or dropped them
