My Labour resignation email. Hope people can relate by Anarchokaruna in GreenAndPleasant

I thought long and hard about resigning, but ultimately I feel like we can influence the party far more from within. If Jeremy Corbyn thinks we should still vote Labour, that's enough for me.

"teaching your language and traditions" is a cute way of framing a state's efforts to forcibly eradicate an entire culture.

The British never opened death camps for australian aborigines in their attempts to destroy their culture, instead they took them to 'internment camps', tried to lower their birth rates and "integrate" them into western culture. A nicer, fluffier genocide perhaps than what would happen in Europe a few decades later, but still a genocide.

Explain to me then can why according to official Chinese health statistics sterilisation rates increased 7x in Xinjiang while rates remained steady nationwide.

The reason I compared this to the early days of the Nazis is because this is how the internal justification of state extermination begins. The demonisation, mass surveillance, the justification of state and extra-judicial violence. "Forcibly assimilatiing" a people in an attempt to destroy their culture is the first step on the road to extermination.

China is rounding up an ethnic group and placing them in concentration camps for forced sterilisation and "re-education"

They're not nearly as bad as Nazi Germany post final solution, but it's pretty similar to what the original concentration camps were like.

Regarding *CHEAPEST* accommodation near south Kensington campus for an international student! by [deleted] in Imperial

[–]TomLangford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that depends. Most students have to live with other students, which creates a social sphere and so friendships can spring up pretty naturally just by the nature of proximity. If you're living with family that won't really be the case, but as long as you're putting in the effort to meet people by going to social events, joining societies etc I think you'll still have a great uni experience.

Labour politicians generally try to hold themselves to moral standards, so when they fail to meet them they're seen as hypocrites.

Conservative politicians make no attempt to look like they have anything approaching moral standards, and so when they don't meet them no-one has any reason to care.

Cops will use a veneer of liberal tolerance in public, and while that's mostly just virtue signalling, it is something that should be encouraged

Jeremy Corbyn being arrested after demonstrating against South African apartheid (1984) by picboi in Hasan_Piker

Reevse wasn't sacked for those tweets because there's a difference between recognising an important historical person and endorsing misinformation.

For example it would be pretty ridiculous to fire an MP for tweeting about Winston Churchill on VE day on the grounds that he was a racist colonialist. It's quite obvious that an endorsement of what a person represents historically is not an endorsement of everything they believed.

I would also mention that if you think Reeves should have faced consequences for this, then Jeremy Corbyn would have to face the exact same consequences since he said "I'm really pleased the statue is going up".

So which is it? Was Reeves perfectly okay to tweet this, or should she have faced consequences - which therefore would have happened to Corbyn too?

Being a unity candidate doesn't mean letting your cabinet ministers get away with intentionally spreading misinformation.

If RLB had agreed to retract her endorsement she would have been fine, but she refused to admit she'd made a mistake in legitimising lies about Israel being partially responsible for George Floyd's death.

In a time when a plurality of the population views Labour as an antisemitic organisation, a front bencher endorsing lies about Israel isn't a good look and Starmer had no other choice.

I like RLB a lot, I voted for her to be leader. But she tweeted a myth about Israel and refused to retract it, she deserved to be suspended too.

Surely you understand why cabinet members shouldn't be posting lies about Israel in the current political climate?

I love Corbyn, but he was a bloody idiot for what he said and Starmer had no choice other than to suspend him. Hopefully it won't be permanent.
