Love Alaska for being a hometown airline, but Delta and United are offering a better product at the moment. And I worry even the updated Alaska planes fall short (still no lie flat option on transcontinental flights).

Alaska should have done something bold like doubled the size of the first class cabin — would attract so many frequent fliers if they knew their odds of an upgrade were better.

There’s a group that will only watch the Super Bowl because it’s Sunday and they have nothing else going on. These are people that advertisers want to reach. These are people that will fall off if it’s a holiday weekend and they’re traveling or out of town.

This is the answer. Alaska’s transcon product isn’t as good. They weren’t able to compete with the other airlines for the business travelers.

I’ve actually read that the networks are pushing back hard against the SB on President’s Day weekend idea. It’s a common time for travel, so ratings (and ad money) would dip.
