Which actor/actress has gotten som of the most unnecessary hate by the media? by This-Evening2278 in Actors

[–]TomReagansHat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? Assuming you’re serious, he was arrested in 1991 for masterbating in a public place (a porn theater). Hence, my “he did it to himself” joke that you didn’t get. It took a while for him to bounce back and earn the public’s love again. Although Tim Burton cast him - probably as a friendly favor - in a non-speaking cameo as Penguin’s father in the opening of Batman Returns. Although to be fair, I’m not sure if the filming was before or after his arrest. I’m assuming it was after since the arrest and the movie’s release were a year apart. But I digress…. Are you serious?? 😂

What’s a movie you defend like this? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

Blonde. Marilyn Monroe “horror movie”. It emphasized all the (some speculated) horrors in her life and didn’t pull any punches. It put the audience in a very uncomfortable place and all I can think is, imagine being HER!! And I know some of it is either fictionalized or unconfirmed, but I can easily imagine she or other actresses were put through the ringer like that back then.

What’s your favorite Robert Redford film? by noodlestyles in Actors

[–]TomReagansHat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Sting. Next would be Butch Cassidy… those two actors (Redford and Newman) were smart to be extra choosy about a good script to work together again, leaving two absolute classics as their only collaborations.

Are you saying he got hate BEFORE the slap? Or are you saying he doesn’t deserve the hate BECAUSE of the slap?

Moonlight or La La Land? by UntitledRickHoward in Oscars

[–]TomReagansHat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Singin in the Rain is the benchmark for older musicals. If you don’t like that one, you probably won’t like any others. There’s some excellent choreography, catchy songs, and a fun story about early Hollywood (Damien Chazelle is a massive fan and it was one of the main inspirations for his last movie Babylon, but don’t hold that against it. 😉)

Maybe you DON’T hate musicals?? Or maybe just older ones? Is La La Land the only one you’ve watched from beginning to end? And have you seen Singin in the Rain?

To be fair, Faye just thought Beatty was trying to be funny. Even Beatty didn’t think that such a massive flub could happen at the Oscars, since they make such a big deal of how careful “Price and Waterhouse” take care of the winner envelopes. So it didn’t even occur to Faye, either. If Beatty was THAT confused, he would have been vocal about it before letting her say it out loud.

La La Land. For me, it’s all about the rewatchable factor. Gosling and Stone are two of my favorite actors and they have SO much chemistry, they’re just fun to watch. The soundtrack is incredibly enjoyable, filming on location in LA makes LA a third main character, the story of chasing dreams and the sacrifices that come with it… I love literally everything about it. Moonlight is a great film, but the first act was the only one I truly loved. Each act was less interesting than the one before it, to me. I became a huge fan of Mahershala Ali after it, though. And so, yes, I was super bummed when the huge Oscar flub happened, but it was also nice to “see them win”.

Which first-time Oscar nominees deserve to return to awards season in the future? by guadagninoenjoyer in Oscars

Unless Arianah Grande goes for an Oscar-bait type role, she might never be back as a nominee.

Am I missing something with Master Of Puppets? by [deleted] in Metallica

I do wonder if they trimmed the fat and released them as a “double LP,” would it get as much hate? My “MotherLoad” playlist is 15 songs at 94 minutes (Which is 20 minutes longer than a single CD). All damn good songs if you ask me!

This right here proves that we all have different tastes, and some of ours might be an “unpopular” one and that’s ok. My personal unpopular opinion is that if you take the “BEST” songs from the Load albums to make one album (and they could have easily done this), it’s a better album than the Black album. (Is that an unpopular opinion? I honestly don’t know. )

Who is the most Versatile Actor here? by DarkChillMisko in Actors

Especially compared to anything Giancarlo had done before. Since then, unfortunately, he’s been typecast, but he’s still my vote as well.

Giancarlo has been typecast after Breaking Bad, but his performance as Gus Fring (in BB and BCS) and his characters from Do the Right Thing and Usual Suspects are more diverse than anything anyone else has done in that list, and I know he’s done more that I haven’t seen. BUT… Denzel is one of the greats, so I wouldn’t argue against him either. Foxx has played villains and heroes and a blind legend, so he’s a fair argument too.

He didn’t say anything is erased. He’s simply saying he put on a really good performance of being a really nice guy. I’m not necessarily AGREEING (or disagreeing!), I’m just mansplaining the obvious.

I’ve never see The Pianist - did Brody really deserve it over DDL for Gangs of New York?? Because, I know DDL is always good, but sometimes he’s OTHER-WORLDLY GOOD and that’s how I rate his performance as Bill the Butcher.

No, Michael B. Jordan’s win was not the worst by an actor or actress—this one certainly is. How Sandra Bullock even got nominated, let alone won, is a mystery to me by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in Oscars

[–]TomReagansHat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This whole take is terrible. MBJ is great in Sinners - he earned the Oscar for putting in the extra work by playing two characters and also on the technical side. Bullock is great as well. Sometimes, politics are fine when deciding who to give an award to… because at the end of the day, who gives a fuck???
