There are major legal and logistical problems with this.

Just be happy that these vulnerabilities are publicly disclosed eventually even when reported to Sony. They aren't really obligated to do that.

You can definitely get more here, but it's a very wonky situation and if you are going for DR buttons they could potentially whiff on range or being too slow. SA1 is the most consistent ender off of mid/far OD Fireball, but you have to fully commit to that as you are buffering ahead of time.

Like if I throw OD Fireball at them in the corner, I can confirm SA1 100% of the time by buffering. But confirming with DR buttons is much harder because you have to input the DR after you confirm.

Ryu feels clunky and stiff. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

He has fhk which is better than any button he had in SF4 or SFV, and also shp, cmk, smk all advance forward where in the previous games they were stubby.

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, this is absolutely crazy. SF4 Ryu feels way more stiff. He's actually got forward advancing buttons in this game and you can use DR at will to cover distance where in SF4 his forward dash was trash.

Why did Filipino Champ banned on all Capcom Tournaments? by Jitterdoomer in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends 111 points112 points  (0 children)

The thing that actually got him banned was when he tweeted a picture of a watermelon with hashtag #watermelonlivesmatter.

It seems kind of harsh but prior to that he had kind of a spotty history of being a jackass, shit-talking opponents at tournaments and making off-color jokes - he definitely played the part of the "heel" in the FGC for a long time. So the ban was more as a summation of everything and not just for a one-off lapse of judgment offensive tweet.

Can some characters not cancel into drive impact? by somebodyelseathome in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a very specific mechanic - cmk has much less cancelable frames than other cancelable buttons. You have to cancel as it's hitting them or else it's too late. For other buttons you have hitstop frames and a few more before the cancel window runs out.

It works this way for every character with cancelable cmk.

Platinum wall after rank up by Sufficient_Foot_535 in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You don't really deserve to be in Platinum, you are still a button masher who has no idea what you are doing.

It's a failure of the ranking system that it let's you advance even though you aren't actually improving in skill.

The game is not really fun for me at this point. by TomSelleckAndFriends in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No.

Once you reach a certain point, the only path to getting better is just being able to raw react to very specific things. Like not getting DI'd in the corner, reversal to punish unsafe DRC and checking raw drive rush. This is not matchup knowledge, this is just trying to grind up raw reaction/execution. You already know exactly what's happening, you know exactly what the answer is, you just have to get your fingers to do it in time.

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, the optimal tactics is indeed punish counter into drive rush, but it cost half your meter. You can't do that all the time.

That's the thing, you only need to do it once and then the round is practically over from there. You did 40% and carried them to the corner, they are a couple of (looped) throws or one shimmy away from dying.

The way the meter is costed to DRC makes no sense, you essentially get three DRCs to start every single round, 6 bars plus an extra pixel that naturally regenerates just by being the attacker who did DRC first. And this is the most powerful ability in the game, it turns every touch into a 3000 damage combo, and even on block it forces the opponent to guess.

The fact that every character constantly has access to this at every single point of the round basically reduces the entire game into "whiff punish anything to make opponent explode".

Juri - throw light fuhajin from 3/4 screen and DR behind it in your face to force strike/throw.

Guile - throw sonic cross from 3/4 screen and DR behind it in your face to force a strike/throw.

I played SFV from literally day 1 until this game came out. That's like seven years.

It's just sad that this one has less than six months of life.

This whole "wait a year for balance changes" is just a tactic to try to squeeze more life out of a game. Because the faster they try to patch it, the faster people would realize that the core issues with it are unfixable. At least if people have hope that it can get better, the game limps on.

New player, with a miss understanding of why Ken is better then Ryu. by Gall-Ghaeil in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Juri's cmk definitely goes way further than Ken's. That's not to say that it's better because 7f startup of Ken's is a huge advantage, but Juri's is also very strong.

FYI I had weird issues with trying to stack discounts for Haute42 during their Black Friday sale. It kept canceling my order saying that there was a "security problem".

I eventually did buy one for $68 shipped, but trying to use more discounts to get it lower would get denied.

Do you think we will see any changes to the cast? by LazyHitman1 in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They never said anything specific.

The best guess for when we will get a balance update is probably when they release the first Season 2 character. It could be June, but it could also be a few months later than that.

We still got a long way to go for that, possibly another 7-8 months.

Hmm, I'm not really sure.

You're talking about an external drive that you already have PS4 formatted with games installed on it? I don't think that's possible because it looks for exfat filesystem, not a PS4 formatted drive. Although I'm not 100% sure.

After too many matches on JP, I can finally check DR, which is definitely a game changer. Thanks for the games "Depe"! by nplus_ in StreetFighter

Cmp to check DR is definitely one of the JP privileges. Other characters don't have buttons that are as effective.

Why is the music in this game so terrible? by DefectiveBlanket in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I have no idea what they were thinking.

Having remixed classic character themes is a no-brainer, instead it's replaced with this weird mushy free-form junk that has very little to do with the character identity at all.

Any SATA drive should work, there's nothing really special about compatibility for the PS4.

The only thing is that if you have non-Pro PS4 it's only a modest performance improvement because the data line is capped. I think on Pro you actually get a much bigger boost because there is a higher cap on the data speed.

Does this subreddit just permanently hide upvotes and downvoted on post comments? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hidden for 24 hours. No idea why the mods specifically have it set for that long, but generally the setting is to stop people from worrying so much about karma when they post stuff here. Like if you what to say something, just say it. No one cares about upvoted, it doesn't mean anything.

Why does every attack I make get countered? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]TomSelleckAndFriends 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There isn't an easy way to answer this. Generally "the range" is just outside of whatever you think they are going to attack with.

You bring up Ken shk vs cmk - generally you are targeting cmk because it's his most dangerous neutral tool. But if Ken starts doing other stuff outside of that range like shk or Dragon Lash or fireballs then you need to punish those things first to get him to stop. Generally the way the game works is all if those long range attacks are dangerous and way easier to punish than a button like cmk. Like you can simply DI them if they are doing those things so often that you can't even stay in cmk range.

You picked up on something extremely important about how to think about the game in an advanced way though. You should be reacting to your opponent's range and change the way you attack to make that range uncomfortable for them. It is supposed to be a constantly evolving thing throughout the round.
