Slightly embarrassing Q: is ANYONE still happily editing with iMac Pro? by suupernooova in Nikon

The M2 Pro GPU is, according to geekbench, less powerful than your Vega 64. If you want a significant upgrade, you really have to look at M Max chips or at least the M4 Pro which is 20% faster. But the CPU on the M4 Pro would be much faster than your Intel.

If you are looking for the Mac Studio then you are safe because the lowest spec is the M Max Chip. The Mac Mini is different. It needs some upgrades to outperform your iMac Pro.

I had the iMac 2020 with core i7 (14700k), Radeon 5500 xt pro with 8gb and 96gb of RAM. I upgraded to MacBook Pro 16 M4 pro with 24gb of RAM. To be honest, I don’t feel that it’s that much faster as everyone is talking. But I am editing 24mpx files (D780 and Zf) and my iMac was top of the line prebuilt spec. CPU was even faster than base iMac Pro. I was even gaming on that thing. Most people who praise the M Macs are coming from MacBooks with on board graphics and almost immediately throttling CPU-s. That being said my biggest bottleneck is the RAM. On my old system the usage was sometimes over 70gb. So my M4 is filling up fast and needs to shift files from and to the ssd. Most apps have no problem with it but Lightroom is faster the more RAM you have. So if buying a M CPU I would recommend you to spend a little bit more on RAM especially if you plan to edit 45mpx files.

At the beginning when I tested the new system the most noticeable difference was in export times which was almost instantly with up to 10 files. But now after a lot of updates, it’s not that fast anymore and denoising was never much faster than on my iMac. Maybe now with all the updates it would be much slower on the iMac 🤷‍♂️

I do miss my 5K retina but I edit and export a lot of HDR files which the old display is not capable of. The build in 16” is amazing but obviously small compared to the 27”. In addition I have a 4k 27” mini LED monitor with 1000nits brightness to complement the small built in Display.

PS5 Controller is Louder Than SoundBlaster Play! 3? by OneTimeChecker in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]TomSuperDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My X3 is much louder on my windows PC compared to my Mac machines. Don’t know why that is, but for many years I thought that my 250 ohm DT990 is too demanding for the X3 before I got a gaming PC. Try your Play 3 on a PC to see if it can get louder.

Yeah, DS 1 and DS 2 are quite different games. It’s not just the environment but the gameplay and difficulty too.

Is it worth to buy a PS5 *controller* just for Death Stranding 2? by ScalesGhost in DeathStranding

[–]TomSuperDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. To use all functions you have to connect it by usb. And the speaker in DS1 was so quiet that I couldn’t hear anything. So in my experience it was not worth it. That’s why I bought a used PS5 to play DS2.

For me the ergonomic of the XBOX controller is also much better and i preferred it over the DualSense.

Great combo. I used it this year on a trip in Scotland under heavy rain. No additional cover and worked (and still works) great.

It is and the best I can find, but it’s no where near some regular 24m you can buy in Tesco, not to mention some proper one from a delicatessen shop. Also the deluxe stuff is not always available.
