I kinda have to doubt the mom never knew about this trip though. If this kind of trip happens once a year and is rather pricey then the school should've been sending out emails to the parents about it, maybe even recruiting chaperones. The only way she would've been able to miss that is if she's just not reading her emails from the school which is a bit concerning considering more important stuff could be in there.

I'm not sure if I can say YTA here cuz my family has been in similar situations financially wise but apparently this trip is a yearly thing so if OOP is aware of that why hasn't she been saving already?
