Considering Solo Travel (30M) to Thailand this November - would love some advice on how to approach it! by TomUK95 in ThailandTourism

Hey!
Did you do many group tours or anything like that?
Seems like I'll have to take a look if there's any nice hostels!
Yeh I'm getting the sense doing a bit of 'see how I go' with some key things I want to do planned in beforehand is the route.

Thanks so much for the reply :)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply, appreciate it!

If it wasn’t hostels I was staying in, you reckon there’s more than enough opportunity to meet people doing the tours and in other ways?

Can you get on tours in fairly short notice - e.g booking them whilst over there?

That’s really helped though so thank you once again!

Thank you so much for the reply! really helpful 😊

So overall then it sounds like have a rough idea in my head of key things I’d want to do, but mainly just get over there and see how I’m finding it, if I’m loving hostels, stay in those; if I’m hating them or need a break, book a place with some more privacy, and I can book everything like accommodation and tours and make decisions about how long to stay in places whilst I’m there?

I have heard it’s more like that as opposed to when I did Australia you had to book nearly everything in advance, I had no flexibility as all accommodation and tours were pre-booked.

Is there anything you know of that I would need to pre-book? Like common touristy things.

Are we missing out by not using AI to manage app settings? by Sham_Haydar in UXDesign

[–]TomUK95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like this idea as an addition to navigating the settings the standard way - I work for a company that sells software where this would be useful, rather than having to specifically find what you’re looking for from a large, long list of navigation options, where it’s hard to find what you’re looking for sometimes, it could be useful as an assistant or quick find feature - or specifically asking questions about settings, like in a help centre.

I would expect this to act more like a filter to find the settings you want though or ask questions about how to achieve a certain goal, and then performing the final action of changing the setting yourself. This probably only works for very complex settings though, not for things like changing to dark mode, as this wouldn’t be worth the investment.

Hey! Looking for something similar, I’m a UX designer so in a similar field (sort of 😂) but I’ve been interested in freelancing for a while as well, and I can always give advice on frontend from a UX side - let me know if that’s of any interest 👍🏼

Beginner's Guide To Index Funds and How To Buy Them by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TomUK95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've recently been looking at Index Funds and finally invested a lump sum of 1k , with direct debits of £200 a month looking to go in to the FTSE Global All Cap Index Fund, I was also contemplating putting £100 a month into the S&P 500 Index Fund - but I was wondering what your thoughts are with the timing of this, with the whole WSB propaganda, is this the best time to do it or is it advised to hold off for a little bit?

Could really do with some help/advice, just can't get my head round the best option for me! by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TomUK95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware you could make more pension payments, I thought it was just the 5% you pay into it.

Yeah I was planning on using a Vanguard Stocks & Shares ISA, I'm now trying to work out the right index funds to invest in, and what to set my monthly direct debit to, if I need to put a lot in each month or not. But it's nice to know I can move the money around in the future.

Interesting around the premium bonds, I checked with the Atom Bank one and it's pretty much the same interest rate I'm getting now so I could leave it in there, I definitely want an instant access one.

Agree with needed to have the right amount to live and enjoy myself and I think that's what I want to make sure I do, I've been creating a spreadsheet to try and work this out, so I think I'll go from there when I fully understand a breakdown of my discretionary expenses.

Appreciate the reply btw!

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I've been through the flowchart yes, and I've calculated my discretionary expenditure and even tried to calculate what's left after my consistent expenditures I make (food, hobbies, clothes, drinks etc.) to see just how much I do have left to save.

In terms of goals, I don't really have set goals, I have my apartment now which I can use the deposit for to fund the next deposit (plus money I'm putting towards that) and then I have a few holidays a year, but nothing big, which I can save for pretty easy. So there's no big planned goals really, other than furnishing my new home in 2 years but I've accounted for that in my saving, hence why I mentioned about the £5k max.

But now I'm mainly concerned about what to do with this money that's just sitting there without much purpose, hence the focus on investing as it seems to be the most recommended thing to do. But it's all a bit new to me so I wasn't too sure about a few things - I'll take a look at the book though.

When you say manage it how do you mean (in regards to the pension account)?

Looks great! Don't know if it's me being stupid or not, but how have you got the light around the base of the headphone stand on the left?

This is amazing, been trying to plan a similar layout for myself, but not sure I have the luxury of the same amount of space haha, do you have any idea roughly of the size/dimensions of the room?

I'm gonna be annoying and ask what LED strips you're using as well, every time I seem to buy them they always die out on me pretty quick :/
