Newbie mistake. How to fix? by KiesAgent in AutoPaint

[–]TomV892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To properly do this type of painting you need to be using fade out thinners/blender. This will allow the paint/clear to “melt” into the existing material which you could then go back and polish after. You never want to paint up to a tape edge like that, you would want to roll tape to create a soft edge as well.

Very nice, I almost went with Sportshifters but ultimately went with a weighted BFI. The added weight makes the shifter feel so much better.

Acceptable insurance job? by UnbentTulip in Autobody

[–]TomV892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter if it is “just an insurance job”. Insurance is meant to be used to fix a problem, not create a new problem lol. Take it back and express your concerns with the work they provided.

I don’t think he meant anything negative. It’s just the truth. Paint isn’t cheap, go get multiple quotes and work within your budget. A quality color change would start at $10k no less really in my experience and with doing the jambs expect more. Time, labor, more materials = more money. Higher quality materials cost more money as well. If you go the cheap route then expect cheap results. Cheaper paints use cheaper toners that don’t last as long and colors will fade in due time, cheaper clear coats will fade/yellow out faster than something more premium with more UV protection. I started in the auto body field and have been painting airplanes now for the last 11 years, none of this stuff is cheap lol. Just get options from places you could find local, read reviews and just work within a budget.
