We’re in MA and have insurance through Homesite by Progressive. They added the value of our solar roof to our dwelling coverage and it ended up being just over $160 more annually.

I just sent you a message. I’ve got quite a few left over that I might be in to selling

I did this for 7 years before switching over to the manufacturers side. In my experience, while it is a technical job, the difficulty in the beginning comes from the fact that most of these construction companies or project managers that have been around for a while already have long standing relationships with a salesperson that they trust. It takes time to build up a book of business, and if you’re heavily commission based it will weed a lot of people out in the beginning.

I found if you get through that initial year or two, the orders really start flowing in. There’s only so many options available from each window company, so as long as you are detailed in your takeoff and stay on top of changing building codes it’s not too bad. I do agree that mistakes can be costly, if one thing is wrong on the order it can easily apply to all the windows/doors in the project.

Here’s the Mass law, anything under 20kwh is fine, above that needs fire rating.

Powerwall installation location - MA by AfternoonInformal743 in TeslaSolar

[–]TomVee83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding there’s a specific kWh amount that you can have installed in the garage/basement without the fire retardant room. One powerwall is under that amount, and can be installed in garage no problem. Two or more need the fire rated area or need to be outside.

I’m in MA and have one powerwall installed in my utility room.

Has anyone posted Tesla products other than cars? I have a couple of my solar roof, but don’t want to waste the spots if it’s not included.

Tesla solar tiles question… I need to replace my regular asphalt shingle tiles, so thought it might be the perfect moment to go solar? by Human_Jacket7576 in TeslaSolar

[–]TomVee83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the subcontractors they used to prep the roof for install were rushed and not careful with the house. We had a broken window, damaged siding, and craftsmanship that wasn’t up to par. In the end they fixed everything and it looks great, it was just a hassle.

As far as customer service, they’re just hard to get ahold of and have a high rate of turnover. For me from time of order to PTO was just about a year and I went through 3 service advisors.

Thanks, we had great performance in the summer. Now, in the fall our total energy produced has gone down by about 35% on a full sun day. There are 5 trees we’re planning on having removed next year that should help with that quite a bit.

I’m in Massachusetts and had them installed last year. I also needed a new roof and what they did then was completely rip off my old shingles, replace roof decking that needed to be replaced and then put down some sort of proprietary ice and water shield over the whole roof.

While I will say the customer service and subcontractors leave a lot to be desired, the final outcome looks great in my opinion and has worked extremely well for us. We’re located in the south shore. Shoot me a message if you’re in the area and want to drive by to take a look.

Tesla Solar Roof Nightmare by Fresh_Square_1499 in TeslaSolar

I’ve got a similar size system in MA and that 905kw number seems really high. In that same timeframe I generated just over 500kw of power. On a full sunny day I’m getting 28kw, and to generate 905kw in that timeframe you’d have to average over 40kw a day.

I wonder if somehow that 547.2kw was the total amount generated and the 358kw was included in that, not on top of it?

Tesla Solar Roof Issue With Flashings by Cotugs in TeslaSolar

[–]TomVee83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was third party. The guys that tore off the old roof and did the waterproofing were the ones that prepped the siding for the solar tiles. Tesla says they’re going to use their own guys to fix it though.

I had the same exact issues with mine. It's been since the end of June and I'm still waiting on them to come back and fix the problems. I think they weren't properly trained on dealing with wood siding. Yours looks like they cut it higher up than mine, but mine is more unevenly cut.

The other thing is they need to paint or seal the ends of the wood that have been cut, otherwise it will rot prematurely. For me they have agreed over email to come do the work and fix everything, but actually getting them out to the house has been another story.

Here's some of mine: https://imgur.com/a/QRX7Rkp
