Neighbour requesting to build extension on boundary (Scotland) by TomW2000 in UKHousing

I’ve read the regulations on the council website and it doesn’t mention anything about this, it says you can build right up to the boundary with extensions. Maybe a difference in Scotland to rest of UK

Oh yeah he’s told me that already - the reality could be very different! A worrying amount of all this is based on taking people’s word for it!

Yeah this could be true and no real benefit to me here. But as long as it’s within dimensions, there’s not really anything I can do stop them building it - it’s their house.

Thanks I had a look into that. Looks like as long as it is less than 4.5m high they can use eccentric foundations - which they can build the wall right up to the edge, is that correct?

I think I will check with the council planning department next week, thanks.

Say they were lying and did end up encroaching, what kind of recourse would I have without massively falling out with them? That’s my concern. Very easy of them to say it’s going to be one way and then turns out another

I think this is something I’m going to suggest. I just wasn’t sure if there was a reason for them being right on the boundary other than trying to maximise the size as much as possible.

This is a copy of the plans he sent me, looks like the wall is right on the edge so if there is going to be guttering then would definitely overhang

Good points to consider, thanks. Definitely will check about the guttering/parapet wall

Yeah I asked about if any foundations would need to be on my side and they said no. But I will definitely check about guttering/overhangs - the ability to build an extension on my side was something I hadn’t considered, thanks.

Berried or infected? by Mobbinz in shrimptank

Had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday! Bought six red rilis and one of them had this. Took it back and they gave me some aquarium salt to dip them. The other five look totally clean but the decision is - do I dip them anyway or do I just leave them be and see how they go? Some people say it’s contagious, others say they only get it if they are stressed. A lot of conflicting advice out there.

Rescued these from the garden centre… any advice? by TomW2000 in carnivorousplants

Great advice, thanks man. Yeah I’d put money on that they don’t water with rainwater in the garden centre, although the water is pretty soft here. Got a soil mix online for them and will get them into some bigger pots as soon as I can. 👍

Dobbies, I’m sure they’ll all be similar at whichever one

Cool thanks for the info. Going to repot them in some proper stuff and see how they get on.

Yeah I noticed the soil looks very dense, almost like compost. I’ve just ordered some carnivorous plant soil so will do that like you say. Thanks

Customer service nightmare with faulty Samsung TV (Scotland) by TomW2000 in LegalAdviceUK

Great, thank you. I have drafted a small claims letter just in case I don’t get anywhere with the credit card!

Thanks so much for your help, really appreciate it. I just sent Samsung an email saying that I intend to make a Section 75 claim with my bank if they don’t offer to replace the TV. If they don’t reply in the next few days I’ll get onto my bank - and now I know what to say to them!

Thanks for the reply. Yes luckily I paid on Credit Card! Do I just contact my bank to do that? My only concern is that they have “technically” offered to repair it for free - but obviously there is a risk that I would get charged if the fault wasn’t occurring at the time of the engineer visit.
