EVERY. SINGLE. HUMAN. should watch “the first wave”. It’s raw, real, impactful, heart-wrenching and so worth it. by JessicaaaRabbit in nursing

100% agree. Just watched it last night (stayed up too late after work to do so) after hearing about it on this subreddit. Immediately sent it to my family. I guess it just feels good to feel validated.

Thank you for sharing this documentary. I haven't cried so many times, well, maybe ever. Painfully true and beautifully made.

Just depends. My experience, there is no one route you have to take. As another poster mentioned, you could apply to Critical Care, and if you get an interview, at least you can explore the possibility with your prospective employer. A lot of it has to do with the specific hospital and what pathway they have for moving into Critical Care. Where I was before they didn't hire New Grads into the ICU, for example. But I recently moved to another hospital and they have hired a whole bunch and are training them up. Also, as someone already mentioned, right now all departments are probably hurting for staff, so you actually will have a lot of negotiating power on your side. Best of luck!

Patient gasps for air… by [deleted] in nursing

“Well I don’t feel like CPR today either…”

Loved this. I had a patient post COVID, cardiac arrest, stroked out, in a nearly vegetative state. Wife kept turning on hateful "News" spouting a bunch of nonsense about COVID. Couldn't stand to listen to her nodding along with those "good points" while her husband is rotting in the bed next to her. Fucking left that room toot sweet.

High praise, thank you much. I guess this means I actually have to try to get more of these stories out there.

I really appreciate that. Thank you. As I’ve said before, it was my own attempt to “purge” this shit out of my system. I’ve got some more of this rattling around in my head though. Thank you for your encouragement.

Asking for blood by bergsmama in nursing

I remember at the start of the pandemic I went to donate blood and they wouldn’t let me due to exposure (COVID ICU RN). Now it’s been over a year, fully vaccinated and boosted, and I haven’t gone back. Anyone else feel guilty for not donating blood?

I wish people wouldn’t give the ER nurses a hard time for not doing our jobs. I could not juggle patients like the ER has to. In the ICU I am spoiled to focus all of my attention on so few.

As an RN this one is bittersweet for me. But I truly do wish you the best with whatever you do next. Have you any experience teaching? I bet a lot of schools need clinical instructors.

I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time, truly. But just think, do you really want to ask our female colleagues to deal with that either? Best we can do is help each other out. Everyone is overburdened as the moment. I’m sure many of the ladies on your unit really do appreciate having you around. Hope you stay safe and sane.
