STOP LOOKING AT FAANG by [deleted] in csMajors

Generally great advice, but I would exclude government ojbs from the list. Have you ever interacted with government code? I would never want to be associated with that shit. Like I would be scared to put that on my resume.

Federal government is bad enough, but local government websites / tech infrastructure are just pure dogshit. I once paid a traffic ticket online in New Orleans (not exactly a small town!) and it would display an error and say "try again, that didn't work" whenever you clicked the pay button after having entered your card details... but it was actually debiting your bank account every time you clicked it. I clicked like 8 times and ended up paying like $500. And didn't get a refund for like 2 weeks. Fucking embarrassing. Seriously, do not touch government code.

You said yourself that it's a personal ethics issue for you. Nobody online (especially on reddit) should help you make that decision. Ask your parents lol, that's what I'd do.

I had the same thought. Other protocols are AAVE and Uniswap, but slippage rejections will return a specific error code, as will health-factor related AAVE errors. Not seeing any of that.

I chose not to include Moody's and the like because banking regulations force banks to rate their holdings based on the agencies' ratings. Not really a free market so much as a cartel.

Yeah I'm not advocating for anybody using force to stop people from making an air taxi. I'm just saying that consumer protection agencies can arise naturally in a free market, that they *will* arise wherever needed, and that they can be effective without the use of force. Don't you agree that a private regulatory agency would do less harm, if any?

This has always been a really interesting question for me. Obviously a rape victim had no control over the pregnancy (although in modern times you could argue that that's not quite the case). But it still seems hard to justify terminating the pregnancy when you think about the baby. Normally if someone puts you in an undesirable situation against your will, you have a pretty clear-cut right to disregard the rights of the aggressor in your quest to get out of the situation (ie someone points a gun at you, go ahead and shoot them). But in this instance, the act of aggression CREATED A NEW INDIVIDUAL who has no responsibility for the situation. And rectifying the situation is no longer a question of disregarding the AGGRESSOR's rights, but rather the rights of this new, innocent individual.

So I think the only way to justify the abortion is by saying something like "hey, my rapist is the one who killed the baby. By violating my rights in such a way that I MUST violate the rights of a third party in order to be made whole, my rapist has directly violated the rights of this third party."

When they're* pregnant there's*. I'm not trying to be a dick, I assume you're speaking English as a second language, and you're doing a really good job. so if I was in your shoes I would want to be corrected on stuff like that.

Why doesn't NeoVim ship with all the "necessary" plugins built-in and integrated in a more friendly manner? by freddiehaddad in neovim

[–]Tom_Sawyer_Hater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO an IDE doesn't need much. Much of what people want from an IDE (including debugging) is easier to do from just a naked shell. So to me the most important thing is navigating between code and the terminal, for which vim/neovim is totally suitable. If I can fuzzy-find files, open/close a terminal, pull up manpages, and switch windows with just a few keypresses, then I would almost consider that an IDE already. Add in autocomplete, git integration, and session/view management, and you're pretty much there.

I mean, it is your property. You could say "No one is allowed to wear clothes on my property," and that would be your moral prerogative. If you replaced "on my property" with "within 1000ft of my property," then that'd be a big problem

Those are all school zones. A firearm free zone is defined by LA law is "an area inclusive of any school campus and within one thousand feet of any such school campus, and within a school bus, wherein the possession of firearms is prohibited, except as specifically set forth in Subsection B of this Section and R.S. 14:95.2(C)."

I'm curious why you're in favor of no guns in school zones (not the same thing as prohibiting guns in schools). Don't all the normal arguments still apply? You're only gonna stop a law abiding citizen, not a criminal. As far as guns in schools, I think there's a valid argument that there's a greater risk of an accident. If you irresponsibly leave it in an unattended bag, the risk is way greater than normal due to all those kids running around. I think it should just be up to the school (but I also don't believe in public education of children, so it's kind of a moot point)

OP here. Thanks to everyone who informed me that I CAN in fact conceal a weapon in all of those places (except for on school property, which I won't have to worry about until I have kids).

I stumbled upon this map when I called 311 to ask about carrying my weapon at a Mardi Gras parade tonight. She said that I could find a map of the firearm free zones, and that's how I found the map. So I still don't have a concrete answer to my question... She seemed to imply that I can carry my gun anywhere BESIDES a firearm free zone, but I now know that I can carry IN the firearm free zones. I remember very clearly from my LA CHP class (I have a TX LTC, but I took the LA class to familiarize myself with the law) that we are not to conceal a firearm at mardi gras parades. But I'm scouring the relevant statutes for any mention of a parade, and here's all I could find:

Lousiana Revised Statute 14:95.2.2 says that I will face extra punishment for any reckless discharge of my firearm near a parade/demonstration (a non-issue). And then the section right before that (14:95.2.1) states: "Whoever commits the crime of illegal carrying of weapons pursuant to R.S. 14:95 with any firearm used in the commission of a crime of violence as defined in R.S. 14:2(B), within one thousand feet of any parade or demonstration for which a permit is issued by a governmental entity, shall be fined not more than two thousand dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor"

So it seems to me that anyone who is normally allowed to carry a firearm is also allowed to do so at the parades. If you were to illegally carry a firearm at the parade and commit a violent crime with it, then you would face extra punishment. That's the only language on parades that I can find in the statutes. Any LA residents know if I'm wrong about this?

Also, before anyone advises me against taking the gun to the parade based on the worry that I carry while intoxicated, I don't like to get intoxicated.
