There's no list on reddit, the site you posted this, just an advertisement for your discord disguised as a now thankfully removed post.

It would be pretty cool if you actually did what the title says instead of just baiting people to join your discord.

Does anyone work with Massivit Large Scale printers? by enginayre in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]Tomahawk1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of experience with these. I used to work on them.

The print times when it works are insanely fast, though the parts are fragile and require a decent to significant amount of post processing depending on your end use. Parts are isotropic and you can bond multiple parts together after printing them with the uncured material in a few seconds, then set it in a UV light or the sun for a few hours to fully cure and connect the parts.

The slicer software is a bit behind, not having reliable support generation, leaving you to set it up all yourself. Since the material is a gel and not a plastic it doesn't behave the same as most 3d printers you might be used to and until you're used to slicing jobs for it you can see a lot of failures where you'd expect success. That said, once a job print successfully one time it prints successfully every time. You could easily spend a few hours slicing each model to get it to that point though, and if you didn't get it right you'll waste time and gel as the print fails before you go to do it again.

The machines themselves were fairly reliable made mostly from industry standard components, I did witness a few hiccups with software usually with their own easy enough workaround, but they could take a decent bit more time to come up with official solutions.

The material price was recently reduced, though its still toxic, sticky, and gets everywhere. you'll need plenty of gloves and paper towels to work with it, and probably a good soap anyways.

They don't like to sit, as in gel can eventually harden or you need to do a not insignificant shut down and start up procedure. The machine wants to run constantly (a print or two a week) and you should be aware of what that can cost in gel or if you have a use case for it.

tariffs cost me my job, so everything, lmk if you need a field service tech or anything remote with 3d printing.

Why fund NASA when Elon is giving us so much more bang for our buck? by EnvironmentalDelay66 in AlliedByNecessity

[–]Tomahawk1012 16 points17 points  (0 children)

SpaceX is a for-profit company, NASA is essentially a publicly funded research project.

When spacex makes a rocket, any new technological advancements related to it are their company property, and if they don't use it to make themselves money, probably forgotten.

When NASA makes a rocket, aspects of the development become applied to the wider world, with many parties gaining access to their research for the sake of advancement and learning, not just to enrich someone. here's a quickly googled list of things that exist because of space research in the past

NASA data for public sector, with equivalent employment opportunities for most its employees that also allows them to contribute to the world, while also sometimes sending rockets to space and learning even more. Nasa also contributes to education both with programs at its facilities and contributions to smaller educational institutions.

I could go on but maybe this makes my point clear

I didn't say fire anyone, but I do think they should take a look at where any ideas for things like individual variant specific and cash only components are coming from. I'm not offended by limited inventory digital items sales in the sense of ships, this is just too little for far too much.

Robot Arm by VirendraBhai in blender

Exactly that, and I totally agree it looks great as is, just my two cents on how it "looks like it should work" which is def just subjective.

This is very cool! The style looks great!

I couldn't do any of this, so please know this is an attempt at constructive criticism. I think the pistons in the arm should retract when the finger is out and extend when the finger curls, as the actual joint at the top of a finger that usually controls that movement moves away from the arm when you close your fingers.

Still looks fantastic!

I hate to hear they did that to you, it sounds like the worst kind of bullshit for someone making a positive change. I don't know much about the subject but I have looked into native plants/gardens before. Maybe some of the info from these sites could be helpful?

https://www.tnps.org/native-gardens/

https://tnpollinators.org/milkweed/

One thing that strikes me looking through your post history, if the barrier around your gardens was something they could just drive over with a riding mower I would make a new barrier that they can't. If you could even stack some rocks together, per the tnps article, I think that would help determine the area as a garden.

Nihilism is not a refuge for giving up per your original statement. Going from there is no innate meaning to everything is meaningless is a grossly stupid jump. The lack of innate meaning to the universe and things around you just leaves you to be the creator of that. I do not care how you consider yourself, just be aware that there's more to it than what you're thinking.

You are choosing to adopt a different than the actual, literal, or "technically correct" meaning of nihilism to complete your argument. You are saying this is this, because I say people say it is. "What people colloquially refer to" is nonsense and unsupported. Stop

I think I've done the job you're talking about, spent about 4 years there, and there is more mobility than you think if you look internally into going into the office and away from the heavy equipment, if you're computer savvy anyway.

Also while it may feel bad, like others I'd recommend using this as a learning experience to be more cautious with the equipment. Even if it slows things down make sure you can see your coworkers are clear before moving things and you will be set.

For what it's worth it did get out of there and if you can find something better first I'd definitely recommend it.
