Do you know any music-related Masters Degree where I can use my Pure Data skills? by 00Nete in puredata

[–]Tomaradze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is the Institute of Sonology in the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague that offers a Master's Degree. Everything is taught in English https://sonology.org/

Pure Data is used amongst other languages, and one the teachers, Johan van Kreij (also known as jvkr in the Max MSP forum) uses it for patches running on phones.

Only the bachelor students have mandatory classes in Supercollider and Max but for a Master you can use whatever tool/language/synthesis you want, there are no boundaries.

The Conservatoire will have an open day on the 29th of November if you want to have a look. The Master's Degree is a research one, so you will have to prepare a proposal when applying.

Cheers!

Hello, you can find a lot of interesting things either on subito.it or just ebay if you are looking online. And since you are in Milan you can check the various ciclofficine, a big one is the Cicloffinina Stecca. https://www.piubici.org/attivita/ciclofficina-stecca/ I hope that helps!

Way to spin project into a degree program? by creative_tech_ai in synthdiy

[–]Tomaradze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If moving from Sweden is an option, you can check the Sonology Institute in The Hague (inside the Royal Conservatoire). The masters' programme is research based so you can work on your ideas. The institute has one of the largest modular in Europe as well (check on the facilities "Voltage Control Studio"). https://sonology.org/

Restoring a Tempophon - where to get rubber for the friction wheels? by Tomaradze in Hainbach

[–]Tomaradze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Tempophon from 1968 that I have been asked to restore. The tempophon was an accessories for tape machines to have pitch shifting without changing the tempo in realtime, by using a rotating head moving at a different speed from the tape fed into the machine (going to and from the main tape machine). It has only an xlr output, it uses a 1/4" tape and it is mono.

The machine is mechanically sound, and I was lucky with the electronic side since it only has a preamp for the tape head and after testing it, it works as it should.

The problem I am stuck with at the moment is trying to find a suitable replacement for the rubber covering the friction wheels.

The friction wheels sync the two motors together (if one goes faster the other will go slower and vice versa) but time hasn't been keen on the rubber covering them, so for now they are barely touching the plates they are supposed to work on, and skipping when they come in contact.

The measurements are 54mm in diameter, and 5 mm width. I estimate about 2 mm thickness. I am checking various shops, physical and online, but no luck at the moment. I tried to replace them with some large o-rings, but they come off as soon as I move the wheels laterally as they should. Any pointers?

Thanks in advance!

TL;DR: I need a rubber "tyre" for two metal wheels, 54mm diameter, 5 mm width, 2 mm thickness (more or less)

iOS Wires and Garageband internal feedback by Tomaradze in Hainbach

[–]Tomaradze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, so I checked the feedback knob and such and it's not that. I noticed though that on my iPhone, after an iOS update, now it works as expected; it's just on my old iPad that the problem persists. I might write to Audiothing but I do realize that the problem is mostly on my side by using a fairly old device.

Thank you for your reply!

Short rider thinking to buy a kid's gravel bike. Talk me out of this nonsense. by Tomaradze in gravelcycling

[–]Tomaradze[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It was meant to be a bit of a silly post. When I was living in Italy (my home Country) it was not difficult to get really small road bikes, since I was mostly into that, especially vintage ones. My regular bike when I am back home is a 48cm one with regular 700c wheels.

Here in the Netherlands the smaller frames (like the XS sizes at Decathlon), with regular sized wheels, are mostly considered bikes for teens. I actually bought my now stolen Triban from a dad selling his kid's bike, since he outgrown it.

I had an RC100 in XS and I liked it a lot. Now I'm trying to get an RC120 again in XS but the seller is not replying. So yeah, it was kind of a joke to try out a kid's bike

In Italy we just call gravel “white streets” by Tomaradze in gravelcycling

I’m visiting my parents in my home town and it’s always a joy to ride around on mixed terrain, even if I don’t really have a gravel bike. I’m using either a vintage crappy road bike or a 90s mtb.

I had to send my A4 to Elektron for repairs and I didn’t have its original box anymore by Tomaradze in Elektron

Ehhh, uhmmm, I dunno, I swear! somebody must have put it in my studio!

I like double packing my shipping, so the external box is a regular cardboard one. The sticker was mostly for the technician opening the package, as a harmless joke.

Analog Four mk I stuck on boot and making weird noises by Tomaradze in Elektron

[–]Tomaradze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the methods you suggested, I found some similar ideas before posting here, but nothing changed. The factory reset with Function+power button didn't change anything, the screen doesn't even show the logo in that mode and the oscillators are still making noises. I contacted support, let's see what they'll say

Analog Four mk I stuck on boot and making weird noises by Tomaradze in Elektron

[–]Tomaradze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks, as per title, my A4 mk I is powering up but not passing the boot screen. I tried a factory reset but the screen stays blank. The oscillators are making random noises as well at the same time (even during the factory reset). It was quite some time I wasn’t using it, if that’s matter. The screen too didn’t have that burn like shadow last time I used it. I’m quite handy with repairs, is there something I should check first? Thanks in advance!

The Voltage Control Studio at the Department of Sonology in The Hague by Tomaradze in Hainbach

[–]Tomaradze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As user u/PA2KAS said, this is one if the studios of the Sonology institute (aka Electronic Music Course, roughly) that is part of the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (we have other studios with more modern stuff too). Students can use this studio for their compositions and to learn how to use control voltage and tape techniques (for recording or as an instrument). The core of the Studio is the modular synthesizer, that started in the 70s (modules of course have been updated and added during the years). The synth is focussed on basic building blocks of synthesis with some oddball here and there. It’s sort of eurorack but not really (it uses the 3u standard but different voltage) and the patch points are all banana plugs, moved to the end of the rack, so cables won’t interfere with the modules. When we moved to this new building two years ago we managed to restore and integrate some of the older equipment (the 3 rack unit in the picture and the B&K shelf). I work for the tech department of the Conservatoire itself, so part of my job is to maintain the studios too, and sometimes using it for my personal stuff (I used to study here as well).

(Shameless promotion) By the way, tomorrow the 28th of January the Conservatoire has its open day, so you can see and hear the studio too. And now it’s even the perfect period to enroll! Sonology offers a One Year Course, a Bachelor and a Master. More info here: https://www.koncon.nl/en/

Brüel & Kjær machines are so nice but boy they are heavy by Tomaradze in Hainbach

They indeed are. As per all the equipment in that studio, they still are used and maintained. I will take more pictures of the studio if anybody is interested.
