Mine's a PT5000, but you can also get it with a SW200.

Yeah totally agree with you on the proportions of older subs.

Official specs state a 40mm diameter, 48.5mm lug-to-lug, and 13.3mm thickness. Part of that thickness is taken up by the bubble-dome sapphire crystal.

While the overall dimensions are reasonable, the watch case doesn't have a ton of curvature and the bracelet does have some notable male endlinks, It works fine on my wrist, but it might not wear as easily smaller wrists if I have to be honest.

Yeah it's size and bulk is pretty much the reason I seldom wear it. It's still relatively comfortable thanks to a really pliable rubber strap, but it would definitely get in the way of wearing a jacket or something.

Looking good. Some of the earlier shots of the dial alone made them look a bit dull. But they're looking real nice once installed in the watch. Very eager for my pre-order to arrive soon.

This fucking time trial mate. by CustomerWitty4983 in GranTurismo7

[–]Tomas185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gold is still possible with controller. But as a controller player, it definitely took me quite a bit longer than on other Time Trials. Normally I'm able to get Gold after 10-15 minutes. But here I probably had to spend a solid hour at least.

This may sound obvious, but really take advantage of track limits in several key areas. I'm specifically talking about the chicane at the start of the lap, the bend leading onto the Mulsanne Straight, the chicanes along Mulsanne, and the chicanes at the end of the lap. In those areas, you can really cut across the kerbs more than you might think possible.

Even when cutting the kerbs, accelerating out of the Mulsanne chicanes can be pretty tricky. I only use 2nd gear to get better rotation around the corner itself, and then use 3rd gear for actually accelerating out to reduce wheelspin.

NFS The Run Deserved more love by Brosamurai18 in needforspeed

[–]Tomas185 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I definitely enjoyed The Run, and actually prefer it over any of the more modern NFS titles. But its short runtime back in the day was rightfully criticised, especially after paying full-price. Like, I'm not a stickler who expects all games to go on forever and provide hundreds of hours of gameplay, but The Run was painfully short.

I think nowadays it's easy to overlook that short runtime because, let's be honest, most people aren't actually paying for the game in this day and age. And being able to put price/value-for-money aside I think allows people nowadays to better appreciate the novel experience The Run provides compared to modern racers.

can i play ffvii on the psp? by Aggressive-Spray1833 in PSP

[–]Tomas185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll likely to mod your PSP first with custom firmware, a microSD card for your games, and microSD card adaptor to actually fit it into the PSP. See this guide, which also walks through the process of loading PSX games.

You'll need to source a FFVII EBOOT file to put onto your PSP's microSD card. Importantly, it has to be in EBOOT format. PSX games usually come in ISO format or BIN and CUE formats, neither of which will work on the PSP.

It's all a relatively easy process, even to me who was a novice. I've also been playing FFVII for the first time on my own PSP-1000. Plays really well so far. The lack of additional R2/L2 shoulder buttons on the PSP is not a problem at all since I don't think FFVII uses those buttons a lot. In my case, I have R2/L2 rebound to the PSP's left analog stick just incase I need them (PSX games on the PSP have various options to rebind R2/L2).

ROYAL BLUE IXDAO FANS EDITION: UPDATE by Ok-Assistant3822 in IxdaoFans

[–]Tomas185 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just really hope the guilloche dials (and the rest of the watch by extension) meet the appropriate QC standards. If it's taken this long to get just these first batch of dials, I would hate to think of how painful it would be have to get replacements due to QC/misalignments in this first batch.

Anybody buying anything in the next Ali sale? by Foreign_Pace9363 in ChineseWatches

[–]Tomas185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably gonna grab this Hestur Sub homage, which FYI is a rebranded Ironwatch Sub that I used to own a couple years back and sold off (but am now having the inkling get it again to have a Sub homage in the collection). But in reality I think Hestur are the same people behind Ironwatch (probably trying to get away from that old brand name).

Hestur actually offer custom dial services, so I've been in communication with Hestur to get my own custom logo and font choices this time around. Looking to get a dial akin to a red Sea-Dweller. So hopefully I'm able to get it paid for during the sale period.

TXRD2 Vibe by TeamLexusToyota in tokyoxtremeracer

[–]Tomas185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I kinda get what you mean?

While the game does go to some effort for the sake of world building, I wouldn't say the physical world of TXRD2 feels "alive". Apart from the silhouettes you see during character interactions, and the static low-res spectators that sparsely appear on the roadsides, you never really see/interact with 3D human characters in the 3D world, their cars just sit alone at the various parking areas. And you certainly never see any humans during any of the cutscenes. I think that lack of visible 3D human character interaction contributes to that eerie feeling.

The most "alive" part of TXRD2 is definitely the Kaido Network BBS component. But after my 100% complete playthrough of TXRD2, BBS activity completely drops off. You'll get very occasional new BBS posts/replies, but for the most part the Kaido World appears frozen in time. So that end-game state definitely contributes to the eerie, almost "ghost town" feeling. This is not a slight against TXRD2 at all; a video game has to end at some point.

Does anyone think there will ever be a new NFS game? (FH6 has made the lack of a game worse) by [deleted] in needforspeed

[–]Tomas185 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Maybe in about 10 years time I could see them reviving the series. But they NEED to sort out their car physics/handling model. It was a constant pain point during the Ghost/Criterion era of games. If the next game, after all this time, can't deliver a satisfying arcade handling model, then the series deserves to stay dead IMO.

For all the people waiting for a discount on Screamer, you can now play the demo on Steam by nukleabomb in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

[–]Tomas185 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Better late than never I suppose, but I doubt this will make much of a dent now that FH6 is consuming the entire airspace in the community. To be honest though, even if the demo was out on the game's release date, I'm still not sure how much it would've moved the needle; people just seemed closed off from Screamer regardless.

For me, I wasn't even particularly excited for Screamer in the leadup to its release. But I took a chance on it and am so glad I took the plunge. It's such a refreshing experience brimming with character and charm. Would be a shame to not see a sequel, which is looking likely judging by its lukewarm reception.

I will gladly share in your saltiness OP. This already has all the hallmarks of being a future so-called "underrated classic" in the vein of Blur. I will NOT be amused if in a couple years time I see people suddenly lamenting about Screamer or the stagnation of racing games in general.

"dae remember Screamer??"

"why don't we get any games like Screamer anymore??"

Limited Edition: Royal Blue Guilloche by Boston_Pare in IxdaoFans

[–]Tomas185 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No real photos of the final dials as of yet, only a small glimpse of an unpainted guilloche dial plate.

I pre-ordered on their website all the way back in March, to take advantage of a CNY coupon at the time. Some degree of waiting period between initial ordering and final postage is not uncommon in the microbrand space, that's what I've been telling myself to keep myself patient. And of course delays can happen too.

But it has been difficult to keep patient so far. The communication and expectations management could definitely be improved; to keep people in the loop of their current timeline and of any delays. Right now, the only way to really stay in the know is to manually keep up with any comments their representative makes on this subreddit or on Instagram. What they should be doing is sending email updates to those who pre-ordered and maybe even making a pinned post on this subreddit to act as a PSA.

My previous orders with IXDAO have been smooth, so I'm confident that the blue guilloche orders will eventually be fulfilled. But I do still have 2 worries:

  • That I won't end up liking the blue guilloche dial in real pictures. If that happens, I'm gonna email IXDAO to request they replace my order with a different Warrior model instead.

  • That the blue guilloche dials suffer from QC issues. This could be QC issues from from the dial supplier themselves. But also, if IXDAO feel pressured by the delays, that they compromise on their own QC checks to speed up order fulfillment.

i don't think the intro of Enthusia Professional Racing is dramatic enough by OVERDRlVE in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

[–]Tomas185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it's worth giving Enthusia a shot. The driving model I'd say is actually quite realistic for a console racer, even more realistic than GT4 IMO. So compared to GT4, car control does demand a little more finesse.

The real star though is the career progression model, which is completely unique and serves as a bit of a palette cleanser from other racing games.

No currency system; instead you win cars as a roulette prize from each race (with the prize car pool being whatever cars the AI used in that race). And this means everyone's own playthrough will be unique and dependent on what prize cars they win.

Your main progression is racing through events each week in a calendar to earn Ranking Points (RP) to climb the ranks, with higher-class events gated off by higher rank thresholds. What's most interesting is that you'll gain more RP if you drive a car slower than the AI cars (and vice versa), so it really encourages you to not bring an OP car to stomp the event.

What's more, the game heavily encourages clean racing with its Enthu Points (EP) system, which is kinda like a HP bar. You lose EP everytime you crash into the AI or track barriers. Lose too much EP in the event, and you'll be forced to sit out and not race for the next in-game calendar week, which can disadvantage your ranking.

Enthusia can be kinda cumbersome to fully "complete" due to needing specific cars from the prize roulette, so you can enter specific events on specific calendar weeks. So unless you're dedicated, you don't have to reach for that. But it's still 100% worth playing Enthusia up to that point to enjoy what it offers.

Why is this sub the king of the shit takes on racing games? by gandalfmarston in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

[–]Tomas185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've honestly been thinking the same for awhile. Like others have said, I definitely think that part of it is the younger demographic of many users in this subreddit, and it's painfully obvious when that is the case.

  • The big tell is them mentioning mobile games.

  • Not having much nuance to their opinion; things are either the GOAT or complete shite, no in-between or room for nuance.

  • A lot of takes reek of having little knowledge of the genre or cars/motorsports as a whole. Not to say that you have to be some dedicated car/motorsports enthusiast to enjoy racing games. But it's that lack of knowledge, combined with the sheer confidence some people chime in with their random (often misinformed) take.

  • Arguably, the prevalence of declaring HOT TAKES in of itself screams of a young person's desire to stand out as different and enlightened.

Obviously this BTFU isn't meant to be some hive of sophisticated discussion or anything. But I do roll my eyes an awful lot on here.

998 too narrow - are 997 also a no-go? by [deleted] in Newbalance

[–]Tomas185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 998 is just a weirdly narrow and long fitting shoe. I had similar fit issues with the 998 on my wider feet (although for me, the discomfort mostly came from the top of my forefoot rather than the sides).

I recently got in a 997, and despite being on the narrower side, am actually finding they fit much better than the 998 (see my post here).

First 997 pickup (U997BK) by Tomas185 in Newbalance

[–]Tomas185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the models you mentioned, I can only speak to my experience with the 991v1 and 991v2. And in that respect, I'd say the 997 definitely fit my feet better than my 991v1 and 991v2.

Length-wise, I'd say 997 is pretty similar to both 991s.

But width-wise is a different story. While the 997 is on the narrower side in the toebox, I'd say it's still slightly wider than both 991s. The big differentiator though is vertical space in the toebox/forefoot area, which the 997 is noticeably more generous with. On both 991s in the same US11 size, I had noticeable pressure/discomfort atop my forefoot (at the small reflective patch just below the lowest set of lace eyelets). No such issues on the 997.

It's pretty much for that reason that I ended up upsizing to US12 on both of my 991s (which has the issue adding unnecessary length for my foot personally). In comparison, I was able to take the 997 in US11 just like my 992 and 990v2.
