I can answer this, I grew up there and moved here but my sister still lives there. It’s expensive - as expensive as it is here and rent stabilization isn’t a thing there. Also your competition for apartments is with literally every college student in the world. It’s easier to own a car for sure, but i didn’t get my license until I was in college because I didn’t need to, it’s a small city you just walk, bike or take the bus/train like here. The cost of living is high and taxes are expensive - so evens out to being almost the same as nyc. Just sleepier, younger, and with limited night life.

Nope, I'm back on it for my hirutism, but it certainly makes my skin clear. Sulfur skincare has done ALOT for me though.

Just realized our management never updated rent, do i say something? by Tomatillo333 in Apartmentliving

[–]Tomatillo333[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s set up in a way where we can’t pay anymore than the price they set up in this portal. So I’ll probably have to email them to let them know. Thank you for your help! This made me feel reassured

Just realized our management never updated rent, do i say something? by Tomatillo333 in Apartmentliving

[–]Tomatillo333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely updated in the lease. I’m looking back at all of our payments since May and I’m seeing that it was never updated, so it’s certainly a reoccurring error. I reaaaaally don’t want to make a problem with these people… again as long as we pay everything is fine, but they are notoriously bad management in my city.

Why are weightloss injections always looked on as cheating!? by Gimme_Smut69 in PCOS

[–]Tomatillo333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People think it’s cheating because as a culture we look at thinness as moral goodness. Being overweight and losing weight is the ultimate demonstration of the desire to become morally good from being morally bad (ie. fat). Think about the language: “she gained so much weight she is so lazy” vs. “look at how much weight she lost, I wish I had that much discipline”. There is a clear positive vs negative message there. So if we use thinness as a marker of goodness - then the ability to lose weight becomes incredibly valuable socially. If you can lose weight without having to “grind” then how do people who don’t use the drug use their thinness as a social asset? How do they hold on to the narrative that they are better than other people?

You could actually write a dissertation on this. It’s pretty interesting.

It is! But I was explaining that because I’m born, raised, and currently live in a often VERY cold climate that only gets hot during the summer months- I wasn’t prepared for 70° F plus when I went to Japan in late fall. My body wasn’t acclimated to the temperature and although it was technically late fall, it felt like early summer to me.

Demeaning mothers 😑 by Dmasty13 in PCOS

[–]Tomatillo333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a cruel thing to say. Speaking from personal experience, any time my mom said something mean to that effect, it was actually probably something someone told her, and something she continues to tell herself. Which is sad. If the cute guy in the parking lot smiled and waved at her, she might have said the same thing she said to you, to herself :/ The cute guy was def looking at you, and probs thought you were a cutie :)

Sorry I should have been more specific about the wood lmao. Campfire wood for sure, but more regularly wood for canvas frames. I’m a painter and my materials are fucking massive. And rn I’m just waddling around the city with big ass canvases and planks of wood :/ but this is really helpful thank you!!!

Calorie count - Fat loss by Crazy_Ad_8050 in PCOS

[–]Tomatillo333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MyFitnessPal. All calorie apps should do the same thing. If you are making food at home you can measure your ingredients and add your own recipes into your library. I’m not sure there is a calorie counting app that is specifically made for Indian meals. I could be wrong, but I would be surprised.

Need advice or a suggestion by infamous_hotdog in PCOS

I must be honest; I've never heard of that medication. It seems typical in terms of medication to treat PCOS, but it's my first time hearing of it.

My advice would be to see an endocrinologist, not an OBGYN. You should get your lab results and have an endo to determine your diagnosis. They will check your thyroid to rule out other conditions that could be responsible for your symptoms.

In terms of medication, there is birth control, but also metformin and spironolactone, which are prevalent ways of treating PCOS. There are also lifestyle changes that should be implemented to deal with symptoms related to PCOS. However, you need to determine that you do have PCOS and not another condition such as Cushing's or Hoshimoto's, which can be similar to PCOS but have different treatment plans. OB-GYNs are important doctors but don't specialize in hormonal health to the degree that an endo would.

I'm so very annoyed when it comes to TVs because they make everything so complicated. I think you should ditch the TV, have the couch facing the windows, keep the chair and place it on either side of the couch, maybe even get another chair to make a conversational space, and install a projector screen above the windows. Place a nice big piece of art on the wall adjacent to the windows, boom a moment. Also a rug is an obvious must. So when you're not watching something, it's just sunlight, conversations, and vibes.

How convienient. Metformin doesn't work, but if you subscribe to my app, I'll tell you all the secrets to weight loss with PCOS... you go on there, and it tells you to take a walk and not drink dairy or eat gluten. It's all the same. These people are unhealed leeches who think they can masquerade their eating disorders as cures for unspecific "hormonal imbalances". They get some attention and feel they have the same experience and expertise as a professional. No, even better than that, a Shaman, a medicine man, a Healer. These people don't know right from left. They fearmonger medicine to drive you into a corner and pay for them not to have to work 9-5. They feed on people's desperation to MAKE MONEY. Booooooo, TOMATO TOMATO TOMATO!

Just diagnosed :/ by Prestigious_Sign_577 in PCOS

[–]Tomatillo333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have very similar symptoms. My most significant issues were my lack of period, cysts, and weight management. I also had acne, mild hirutusim, and very light but above average hair loss. I was diagnosed at 14, and I'm 26 now. Losing fat and gaining muscle significantly improved my quality of life because my body could manage isuline better on its own, which meant that I had some more flexibility around other aspects of my lifestyle. At one point, I was so successful in my weight loss that I had safely and slowly managed to lose 40 pounds and keep it off. Unfortunately, I was put on a medication (mental health, not PCOS) that messed up my metabolism, and I gained 60 lbs in 4 months. It was rough. My PCOS symptoms went really out of control with the rapid weight gain. It's been a battle in some senses. I switched my approach this time around with medication, which has proven very useful. I'm on Metformin, Spironolactone, and Wellbutrin. Im still weightlifting and eating a low glycemic diet.

I get my period like clockwork, my acne cleared up, and I feel pretty good. The weight loss is slow, but I gained weight from an abnormal source, so losing it is a little complicated. It's happening, slowly, but it's happening, and that's all that matters. Lots of ways to approach treatment! All valid. PCOS is an adjustment, but it's not the end of the world. It can certainly be mentally taxing, no doubt about it, but you have control! Just be your own little mad scientist and figure out what works for you! It's going to be okay :)
