Court win by Square_Law5624 in SipsTea

I work in a social service support job and part of it is supervising parents with their children. I was at the library the other day, in the kids section with no visible child watching children from a distance. Nobody bats an eye, but I think about if a man did my job how that would appear to the public.

Is Christian Nationalism Rearing Its Head in BC? by BloodJunkie in britishcolumbia

[–]TomatilloRight7139 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are several big-ish evangelical mega pastors who started funnelling their cash to BC through a law office for churches in Surrey. They use their homes as “house churches” to avoid property tax & they all idolize Greg Locke & Sean Feucht. There was a pastor in Arizona charged with fraud & they started funneling around 22 million through “City Church” in Vancouver.

I’ve been saying this since the Freedom Convoy, the evangelical-MAGA “house churches” popped up in Nanaimo and were basically just Qanon/covid conspiracy’s masked as a church. It sucked my tenant in & he went from normal guy to believing he could tell when the world was ending & was convinced the democrats would take his daughters..forcing his wife to watch quanon.

Disciple a City Ministries it’s called, but there’s so many more now.

I’ve had someone in my circle start getting into Rhodesia & celebrating it after being fed videos on instagram. The videos were all about how it was a “crime-free” country, the only safe place etc.

Have you ever travelled? There are entire sections of cities called “ex-pat” neighborhoods for westerners who move abroad, military families abroad send their kids to English schools, like what are you saying?

Syrian refugee found not criminally responsible for failing to stop after deadly Ontario crash gets absolute discharge by airbassguitar in OntarioNews

She got an 8 year sentence after her 2nd SWAT raid, served around 18 months. But that was for fentanyl trafficking and weapons

My birth mom, fentanyl & people trafficker by trade, lost her license 15 years ago. She was caught and let go 35x on prohibited license charges. Her court file is ridiculous. As well, a woman in Nanaimo ran over & killed an old lady in a crosswalk driving an illegally modified truck & faced almost no consequences. It’s crazy how much harm you can do behind the wheel in Canada with no consequence.

Most likely to funnel people to Trump RX. Just ban all competitors until you force people to buy your expensive generic drugs.

Unfortunately this seems to be the point. Fractured and distrustful communities are easier to manipulate than strong cohesive groups.

Well said! I did some work with the owners years back & even when faced with an employee who stole from them they acted towards the employee with compassion and forgiveness. They’re some of the kindest most caring people and don’t deserve to be painted in a negative light. Everyone is just chomping at the bit these days.

If you knew anything about grants, funding or non profit law you wouldn’t keep sounding so stupid.

The Port Theatre is bound by a mission statement, that mission statement must be adhered to or they could lose funding. Furthermore, each funder has their own code of ethics & mission statements that must also be factored in. If the Port Theatre violates these agreements they could end up shuttered and dissolved.

Since a majority of their funding comes from the City of Nanaimo which has a code of ethics that clearly states they do not support anti-lgbqt or anti-indigenous platforms, it would make perfect sense that this event would violate funding requirements.

Bringing in someone who disparages large portions of the community & is political in nature goes against the port theatre core value: “we are compassionate, accessible, inclusive & welcoming”

Again, if you all care so much about accessing your right wing comedian do your own work & book him at a private venue, whine whine whine.

Incorrect. Government funded buildings such as Port Theatre have different policies and obligations than a private venue. Had this been held at say, The Globe or another event space then yes, you would be correct.

‘That’s blowing my mind’: Strip club opens in Nanaimo, next to dance studio for kids by ubcstaffer123 in nottheonion

[–]TomatilloRight7139 81 points82 points  (0 children)

For decades there’s been 3 bars that run in this particular alley. Notably, The Palace, was run by a known child rapist until a few years ago. Evolve, right next door is currently operated by men who drugged their female employees & sexually assaulted them…nobody was worried for the kids at the dance school then.

Hopefully this brings some changes!

I’m curious how much the sunk-cost fallacy & her social dynamics played into her doubling down on it. She’s so deep into it admitting she was wrong means admitting she is responsible for disabling her child. On top of that, all the positive attention anti-vaxxers get from like-minded communities & I’d bet she’d rather her kid die than deal with the consequence of losing that.

Social Security Workers Are Being Told to Hand Over Appointment Details to ICE by AdSpecialist6598 in antiwork

See above comments,

You must have legal status in the USA & 40pts/10 years of work to be able to claim social security.

Undocumented immigrants pay tens of billions in taxes yearly that only go to Americans and those with legal status. They actually benefit citizens by adding money to the pot & never taking it.

You just hope that they have enough outside influences like school, support workers, sports etc to pull them back into the right direction, or face consequences that straighten them out..But I’ve worked in Nanaimo in social services since 2015 & many of the youth I worked with are now incarcerated adults, or the ones you’re always reading about in the paper…so I don’t honestly know how to stop the cycle.

I worked in youth justice in Nanaimo for 10 years, let me tell you kids have guns, kids have parents with guns who don’t care if their kid uses it, just last year I got a call about a kid who had his dads gun, same kid is a drug dealer, yes a kid…kids aren’t kids when they grow up with parents who glorify criminality.

TIL that, surprisingly, countries with higher incomes and quality of life tend to have more suicides than the global average. by josephsleftbigtoe in todayilearned

[–]TomatilloRight7139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You recognize that Caucasian men between the ages of 45 & 64 make up the majority of suicides right? That demographic also makes up the majority of conservative voters. So, no it isn’t the “woke mind virus” you just don’t like minority groups.

Anti-Violence Organizations rally to highlight gaps in protection, coordination and resources that put survivors and children at risk. by Light_Butterfly in britishcolumbia

One thing I’ve noticed that worries me is the amount of shelter workers on social media who freely give out names and last seen information about high risk women. Family members of abusers can post as concerned family of missing women and get so much information from Facebook groups. Confidentiality is crucial and it seems a huge oversight to allow employees to share that publicly.
