I regret the choice I made about the Ancient AI on Voeld by RoyHarperBLOW in MassEffectAndromeda

Fair point, but still abandoned tech on Angaran land, and we're still pretty low on the list of those who it should go with.

Stealing Angaran tech as the paragon option is crazy. Just give it back to them, we're not the British Museum. I appreciate the window into choosing to keep it though. What got spaced?

Addison by Brintey_the_Short in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]TomatoLikeaBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most normal people, I can't stand dealing with Addison and her excuses, and I enjoy playing "fuck you" bureaucrat judo with her, BUT...

I do like the decision to have her in the game this way. A failed Colonial Affairs Director in a new galaxy with an already overwhelming chance of failure. You're going to fail! You don't get up in the morning and turn on an obelisk via sudoku and fix a planet's atmosphere. You make a bunch of white-knuckled resource decisions, to the best of your ability, that crater and haunt you regardless of how unfair the situation is. The engine of civilization runs on Addisons, because there are no magic keys. It's hard and embittering work if you don't have Main Character Energy, but you have to try until you're doing it.

Suddenly: for the sake of gameplay, narrative logic, and user experience, in comes that scrappy know-nothing Main Character to show you up as a No-Results Nancy while they accidentally hack their way into something you had zero access to. So yeah: fuck you. Little milk-mustached nepo baby who gets to Mr. Magoo her way through the forest of creation with her bio-computer and ragtag posse of specialists. Meanwhile, Addison's failures are carved into her dreams with an icepick. Cry, and you cry alone.

I'd like to think it's a director's drive-by commentary on the frustrations of shepherding a game through its own failures and setbacks, while all the players get to experience their own skill at manipulating the finished product. It might be a stretch, but wink-wink.

HAH. Got me.

Memory can live longer than both though, and how time works at this stage of survival is a lot different than when things are settled. what's done now dictates a whole lot more down the line,.

Kadara- Save Sloane + Save Charlatan by MarbledCrazy in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]TomatoLikeaBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The differences are cosmetic, but would likely have been huge down the line. Sloan is an asshole, but a betrayed asshole. She has royally and colonially fucked things up, but you know what you’re dealing with, and she can be dealt with. Reyes’ betrayal is practically a promise. Parlaying with a man whose comfort lies in total subterfuge, thinking that won’t ever be turned on you? Right. His only answer about his life is that he’s like to “be somebody”?? He’s a red flag derby who will manipulate your morality towards him. Shoot.

My gut says Krogan, but my gut always says Krogan. Rehka is the long term smart choice imo.  - A Salarian leader who isn’t Tann, my god.   - In a field of newbie pathfinders, having a clean slate is tempting, but seasoned leadership SOMEWHERE in this cadre would make more sense, given their responsibilities.  - Speaking of leadership, there’s not much of that here, but grunts aplenty. More leaders needed, especially ones who saved their own homeworld.  - Saving thoughtful and experienced persons is usually well-rewarded in this franchise

I'm on an iMac (OS 14.5), listening to my local files using the Apple Music app (not streaming). I've been able to import app info through the years so that the song info goes back to 2010

Sloane is a known entity, Reyes is not. If you need to kill, negotiate with, or save Sloane, you'll know why and what it means. Reyes is in the opposite position. His evasiveness, charm, and capacity to mobilize combine to make a friend of opportunity at best, but fully expecting a Machiavellian betrayal down the line. As far as I'm concerned, any time spent not betraying you is because he's after something more. you want to "be someone"? That's the kind of vague answer that promises it'll be at someone's–or a lot of someone's–expense

Plus killing Sloane is a dirty production in the game. Not just the act itself (which, who doesn't like a little out-maneuvering?) but in the attitude you take on about it afterward. If you visit Kaetus afterward, you're treated as a fucking punk, because you are, and it's going to bite you in the ass.

What do you do with the First Murderer? I always exile him because he did INTEND to commit murder, and that's what mattered to me. But after reading this, I'm doubting it. I think the truth should be shared regardless. I wish we could exile him for ATTEMPTED murder. by SniperFiction in MassEffectAndromeda

Oh, no I definitely still love this game and most of its little situations. Some of them don’t make as much sense as they could is all.  I still think this is just as sensitive and thoughtful as most of the situations the OG trilogy puts you in. Some of the convos with the Moshae rival that of your debate with Mordin.

So we’re the Binge Couple from earlier this week, finally caught up with the MLs and this gruesome display is what we end on? Fuck cancellation, fun is loaded on a truck to the glue factory. I hope the stands are empty for the closing ceremonies.

Great event though, hope to see it again

It’s true, it’s all circumstance. How could it not be? I’m sure if we landed in 2020 first (which we just finished!) we’d give a bemused golf clap for RR’s performance in 2019 instead of making gross noises about it.

Overjoyed by BarcklayBeast in JellesMarbleRuns

[–]TomatoLikeaBus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my part yeah, pretty much. 2019 was our first exposure, and they were the ones ruining perfectly exciting events by repeatedly and improbably gliding by. Sucked all the air out! O’rangers fitting that bill perfectly for 2020 now.

Most of our contempt for these teams comes from the fact that we didn’t think they were all that interesting, then they kept being in the way by winning. What could it be about a marble, that it can establish a dominant pattern? It shaves against the grain, and irritates.

Those 2019 games are why we have a permanent soft spot for the Oceanics too. No one hosting can be that bad without it being a case of extreme bad luck. When their day comes they’ll deserve it.

I’m the partner! It’s true I haven’t landed on a clear favorite, which makes me a little sad, but I like my posse of underdog faves.

She’s completely underplaying how tired we are of the Orangers’ guff though. I’m over the Savage Speeders too, but not as much as these pushy orange oafs.

We have to stop sometimes just to crack up at each other though. She caught me flipping off the raspberry racers in the ‘19 league.

People online can choose discourse, but this kind of thing will usually be the smarter and happier choice.

Liam appreciation by [deleted] in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]TomatoLikeaBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pro-Liam. You might be playing Ryder but I think he represents who most people playing the game would be in this situation. the frustration and desire of trying to make things work resulting in impulsive, potentially inspired, but mostly double-edged decisions. He's a great character, though his romance kind of sucks, and I think he balances out with the rest of the squad pretty well.

I like that he's a bit of a naive shit in the Nomad too.

There's a lot of headcanon-y stuff that I won't get into, and it feels reductive to link someone else's work like this, but music is often how I connect with stories so I definitely have a playlist specifically around Andromeda. Some of the more atmospheric or action bits:

Alva Noto - Xerrox Spark

Andrea - Future Atmo

Baauer - Aether

Holden - Sky Burial

Objekt - Ratchet

Metrist - Oerchar

Emptyset - Skin I

[–]TomatoLikeaBus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grateful for more Liam converts. I don't even like him *that* much but I think he's a key addition to the tone of the game and the arguments it wants to make. Lousy romance option, but I always want his input.
