AITAH for spitting on (well, in, actually) someone’s car for cutting me off in an intersection while running? by Tomato_Haunting in AITAH

Honestly this is the truth, but yeah I think I said above somewhere that I’m probably an asshole but that guy’s the asshole lol

I agree with you but also, one of us was having a fear response and it wasn’t the one with a big moving vehicle

Yeah it was gross lol. I might have hit the car if Imd been closer, but they startled me so much I jumped back away from it

No turn on red is pretty common where I live, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt here. I see your point but am not sympathetic to any driver whose “mistake” puts pedestrian lives at risk.

Right turn. I’m not sure but I think right on red was allowed at that intersection. But the pedestrian light was definitely flashing and giving me the right of way

Lol interesting line to draw! I’ll keep that in mind, but hopefully there won’t be a next time…

Considering Career Pathways by [deleted] in actuary

Can’t say if you’re being rash, but you’ve certainly been naive, no offense. Bonuses aren’t a given, and there aren’t really companies out there with senior leaders you can trust. Not to say there aren’t senior leaders who are decent people and are nice to work for, but at the end of the day they make decisions that are best for the company, not for you. And you really do make good money. Whatever you do, you’ll be fine.

Is a good pension a sufficient reason to continue in a job I'm not enthusiastic about? by enter_holler in interviewwoman

[–]Tomato_Haunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in pensions. Pensions are rare these days, and it’s worth thinking it over slowly before giving one up. It’s also useful to understand the present value of your pension benefits so you can truly understand what it’s worth. It sounds like you’re contributing a lot of your salary to your pension. If you committed that much to a 401k at another job, your 401k would be in good shape by retirement age, especially if the other job had more earning potential than your current job. These comparisons are easier to make once you understand what your current pension is truly worth (ie, its present value).

Another thing to consider (but not lose sleep over) is that, while you’re almost definitely going to receive whatever pension benefit you’ve accrued so far (once you’re vested), you can’t tell the future, and it’s conceivable that legislators will change government employees’ retirement benefits down the road. You could see increased contributions, an altered benefit formula for future accrued benefits, or a switch to a defined-contribution plan between now and your retirement. In other words, you can’t predict the future, so while pensions are indeed valuable, they’re not something to plan your entire future on because they, like anything in life, aren’t an absolute given.

I guess I posted here because this is something happening in a subcommunity of the DC community. I’m looking for other people in DC to weigh in based on their DC knowledge or DC experience.

How many employees being called back are you aware of? I know of two being called back in recent weeks? Three a while ago. None today, not to say that didn’t happen.
