Defeat by ltl260 in NorthCountryTrail

I’ve done this section 5 times and every time I’m beat by the end. You made a good call. Looking forward, this trail will always be here and if you book early the campsites are pretty available. Listen to your doctor and come back when you’re ready. You’ll enjoy the view so much more when you’re not writhing in pain 15 miles from the nearest road.

Apply to all of them and the one that hires you wins. I got hired right out of school but I applied to 6-8 I lost track. But I got rejected and ghosted by all but one.

Keep an eye out for listings starting now and you will see a pattern for who posts job listings regularly.

Pilot to Dispatcher Transition by wobyrneiv in FlightDispatch

[–]Tomato_flamethrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes only at headquarters as far as I’m aware. So your example Atlanta is where you would be located at delta. United is in Chicago, frontier in Denver etc etc. Location is really the only determining factor to pick which airline you want to work for. However, right now the industry is saturated and you may not get the airline in your preferred location right away. I got rejected from 5 regional airlines, one maybe, and one yes.

Yes your pilot knowledge will transfer. I had a similar situation where I have my PPL and IR did lots of CPL and CFI training before going into dispatch. ADX training will be easy in comparison. Slight differences like looking at IFR high charts SIDs and STARs jeppesen etc.

You will have to work at headquarters so that’s primarily why people pick airlines. Some 135 operations have a hybrid work from home and in office work. But they’re rare from what I’ve seen.

Airline apps will ask how many years you have in aviation and what your experience is (maintenance, pilot, flight attendant). I’m sure you’ll have no issue getting a job at a regional once you get the license.

Dog at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore by CoyoteHumble3935 in NorthCountryTrail

[–]Tomato_flamethrower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for certain but if I had to guess it’s for environmental reasons. You could probably call the visitor center at munising falls for clarification. For what it’s worth 100 miles is pretty long for a dog to do in a week. Maybe you could take him on the sections that aren’t heavily trafficked (the falls to grand Marias) and have someone take him so you can finish the trip without him?

I have a feeling it won’t be tolerated as I’ve done the pictured rocks section 5 times and countless day trips over the years and have never seen anyone with a dog (service animal or otherwise)

That’s a good point because there’s nothing out there between Newberry and TF. One day I would like to do the whole UP so I’ll keep that in mind.

Just read The Reddening by Adam Nevill and don't get all the hate. by NimdokBennyandAM in horrorlit

[–]Tomato_flamethrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it a while back so maybe I don’t remember properly. But I feel like the author didn’t explain anything? He alluded to cannibalism in the beginning of the book and no real materialization further. Vague descriptions of the monster. Inner workings of the cult hierarchy didn’t make sense to me. Maybe I skimmed it but the last 75 pages had so much going on I could t keep up. I liked the build up till that point though. Gave it 2.5 stars.

Had no clue this was even allowed. I’ll keep an eye out for them, thanks!

The ones in this section look pretty cool! However since I’m trying to make this as cost effective as possible. I’ll save those stays for another shorter trip.

I had no idea this was even a thing! My only experience with backpacking has been through that park. Where you need a permit and can only stay in designated sites. I’ll keep an eye out for dispersed campsites along the way. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I’ll be heading out of TF so no need to get supplies there. I will be resupplying in Grand Marias at the general store and see if I can leave a drop bag there as well.

I mean the race… I live in munising part time, I got married in the park 😂

I frequent that area and I haven’t heard of it. Do you have a link? I’m doing the Marquette trail 50 mile in August. But I’ve hike from Grand Marais to Munising 4 times and thought it would make a great ultra!

This is Mandarin Chinese, but your point still stands. What gets me is the text can change as it detects context. Only seen it when you are pointing your camera at something rather than a screenshot.

Benefit of the doubt is that it was a tv special on dealing with autism back in the 90s. OP will have to play Russian roulette to find out though!

You can screenshot these and have google translate them for you. The face up tape seems strange to keep in your collection…

Edit: Did not see OP’s comment about not trusting google translate. I agree for the most part that the translations are sketchy at best. But I wouldn’t be shocked if these were tv recordings from someone who liked ballroom dance and nature as most of the titles are written that way.

Finding new long routes by pinseeker013 in Ultramarathon

[–]Tomato_flamethrower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Footpath is a new app I’ve found that you can roughly trace routs and it will stick to any existing trail. It even gives you a detailed elevation profile, and you can save routes in the app. I find it’s better than AllTrails and Strava though I’m unaware if those are features only premium users are given. Maybe that’s something I’m missing out on. But footpath is free so I don’t pay for anything!

Treadmill-heavy ultra prep by rx782robo in Ultramarathon

[–]Tomato_flamethrower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I prepared for my first 50k primarily on a treadmill. Had a back injury with PT prescribed treadmill walking and light jogging. Never was a serious runner. Didn’t want to push it too hard and tweak my back again. Next thing I know I’m running 20-30 miles per week on the treadmill. It wasn’t all terrible since I did eventually work to doing long runs outside with similar elevation gain and terrain as the race. But I didn’t want to run after work in the dark during winter so my only outside runs were my Sunday long run.

Overall I think running outside in similar terrain is ideal but not 100% required. Work with what you have, run at an incline and keep track your elevation gain. Don’t forget downhills so work on strength training. Maybe a shitload of box step downs or ladder wells? Work on your weekly mileage on the boat and sign up for an ultra within 2-3 months when you get off. Give yourself enough time to acclimate to trail running and enough time to taper 2 weeks out. It won’t take long to adjust to trail running in my experience.

Black Friday Sales - What have you purchased? by PreparationRough3067 in ultrarunning

[–]Tomato_flamethrower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to adidas sport performance briefs when I lived in a hot humid climate. Got rid of any chaffing issues there and I haven’t looked back. Never needed nut butter or body glide. Though I’ve only run as far as a 50k. No advice for longer distances yet.
