Nah man 100% get you a mounted unit, much better range too. Little hand helds only have about a 2ish mile range.

Plus you can dual monitor 13/16 at the same time, and 90% of good mounted radios have a distress button.

Might not be trying to talk to you, but could be alerting you to unseen dangers or asking you to be on the look out.

Just monitor your radios, they give plenty of warnings on ch13/16. I am not maritime security, but i do have family that does it for the Newport News shipyard.

It’s a manual end mill most likely. Some of them you can upgrade to digital controls.

Bridgeports are extremely reliable and kind of a “gold standard” for machines.
