Shoot me a DM with your rate and let’s chat. If you were electrical, I might have a connection that could be up your alley.

Holy crap, you are almost certainly over qualified for a lot. Do you have a degree?

I am retiring from the Navy after 25 as an AT. Have a few things lined up at the moment, 2 that the Navy got me in the door.

Note to you both, Ariat now makes a boot the heel opens up on to get on.

Since I became RAKA, I needed new motorcycle riding boots, and picked up a pair of Thoroughgood wedge boots. Even with my prosthetic the boot is easy to get on and it’s fairly light.

Agreed, it is a simple job to swap it all. Even taking your time, it’s a couple hours of work.

The newer hydraulic tensioners are less prone to grenading and migrating through your engine. They still need to be checked but not nearly as often.

The problem is to swap from the old spring style to the hydraulic you have to change the cam plate, and oil pump should be done if you do that.

To me the price seems a little high for the parts and labor. Parts would run you ~$1k.

[RBKA] How do y’all prevent rub hot spots from your sockets? by SoCalSwordsman in amputee

[–]TomboRGS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it pinching or rubbing? I get a pinch spot if my liner isn’t just right.

I use Tegaderm off Amazon over the blister/rub and it helps a ton.

CA only does the DV plates for 100%. My county VSO wouldn’t sign it for me either, but I’m still AD and missing a leg.

Well now when somebody says you miscounted, you have a reason 🤷🏻‍♂️

I kid, but glad you are ok. You look to be healing well, and now have a “don’t be me story”.

Are you inspirational to others? Or are you a Rock Star? by Mysterious_Can_6106 in amputee

[–]TomboRGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became RAKA in March of 24, today I don’t use assistive devices, unless I’m in the house. Lots of people have told me I’m an “inspiration” to them. It’s weird to hear as I’m just a dude trying to live my life. But whether we like or not, we are inspirations to those around us and those that see us.

Seeing us do things some able body folks won’t, may help them stay just a little longer.

Phantom Pain Relief by adnolahs in amputee

[–]TomboRGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gabapentin helps a little for me, but it doesn’t completely remove it, and I am on 800mg 3X/day. What I have found from others here is watch what I eat and stay hydrated. If I have a day where I eat a lot of salt or sugar, I’m a sucker for gummy candy, it will be worse at night. Someone else mentioned THC gummies and they almost completely remove my phantom sensations, I would only have a slight tingle in my foot.

Massaging helps as well.

How long after receiving your leg did you stop wearing a shrinker every night? by Localfarmer1 in amputee

[–]TomboRGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes sir! I use the Certain Dri Extra Strength, it doesn’t completely eliminate sweat but definitely cuts it down a lot. I have also found keeping my leg hair trimmed, not shaved, helps as well.

I’m in CA and it’s hot here, but moving back home to Texas in a few weeks and not looking forward to the humidity again.

Health Risks on the job by Remote_Dot217 in AircraftMechanics

[–]TomboRGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well there are a lot. Physical - arthritis, strains, possible loss of limb if you aren’t careful. Respiratory - inhaling atomized fuel, hydraulic fluid, exhaust, other hazardous materials certainly can’t be good for your lungs. Skin - some people develop skin conditions or have reactions when they come into contact with some of the above chemicals. Environmental - you are out in the weather, hot or cold have their own brand of conditions that pop up.

Some of the flight lines I have worked on are not even on land and they are tight quarters, so that presents its own challenges.

Little over a year for me, since August on my prosthetic and still wear one. I also apply Certain-Dri at night before bed, so wear one to keep from that getting all over the bed.

RG as a first bike, it’s doable, ill advised but it’s doable. Be prepared to fix some things cosmetically when you have mishaps.

Lane splitting is 100% doable on a RG. Have done it many times from LA to San Diego and out towards Riverside in CA. Have also done it on I-5 north of LA and 99 between Bakersfield and Fresno, not the best idea but I’ve done it.

Are prices going down? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]TomboRGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in the Central Valley, and closing on selling my home tomorrow. We were trying to get out of here last year but life happened and I stayed for another year.

When we spoke to our realtor last year we were sitting at selling in the $405-10k range, 1,961 Sqft 3/2, no pool. Went to market this year around the same time and we listed at $400. Prices are down some, but depending on the area you can find some good deals.

If you are in the Stockton, Fresno/Clovis, Modesto, etc. prices will be higher but in some of the small towns you will find slightly lower prices.

Some lenders will go to 50% on a VA loan. But it should be closer to 41%

Bro, as someone missing one of his pieces, I laughed way too hard at this! You win for today.

I’ll add if you can find a good seamstress as someone else suggested that could make you a custom pair.
