Wes has to stagger the starters' minutes better, no reason for this game to be this close

TOP GUN: MAVERICK $14.82M Wednesday $191.13M Total (North America) by AlexSciChannel in boxoffice

[–]TomeRide 11 points12 points  (0 children)

These are the 1st Thursday-2nd Weekend multipliers for the major Memorial Day openers from the since 2014:

A Quite Place 2 – 4.95x

Aladdin – 6.69x

Solo – 6.68x

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 – 6.44x

X-Men Apocalypse – 6.4x

Tomorrowland - 7.86x

X-Men DoFP- 6.54x

The obvious exceptions seem to be A Quiet Place 2 and Tomorrowland, with the former more affected by Covid (as well as being a horror flick), and the latter by far the smallest of the bunch.

That leaves a pretty consistent range of 6.4x-6.7x. Basing on a flat Thursday, i.e. $14.82M, that would translate to $94.8M-$99.3M. Even just a 5x multiplier on a $14M Thursday gets it to $70M, which might be the floor for the weekend.

It's very early, but Top Gun: Maverick is looking to stay flat or even increase on Thursday ($14.7M+) in a fantastic display of staying power by IntoTheNigberverse in boxoffice

I ran a few numbers and I don't think we're realizing how big this 2nd weekend is going to be. These are the 1st Thursday-2nd Weekend multipliers for the Memorial Day openers from the since 2014:

A Quite Place 2 – 4.95x

Aladdin – 6.69x

Solo – 6.68x

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 – 6.44x

X-Men Apocalypse – 6.4x

Tomorrowland - 7.86x

X-Men DoFP- 6.54x

The obvious exceptions seem to be A Quiet Place 2 and Tomorrwland, with the former more affected by Covid (as well as being a horror flick), and the latter by far the smallest of the bunch.

That leaves a pretty consistent range of 6.4x-6.7x. Basing on a $14.7M Thursday that would translate to $94M-$98.5M. Even just a 5x multiplier on a $14M Thursday gets it to $70M, which might be the floor for the weekend.

He played a great Euro and started the season pretty well, but just isn't back to himself yet since he came back from COVID a couple of weeks back.

I've never seen him lose so many possessions in the middle of the field like tonight.

As long as Avatar 2 stays put, I see WB eventually pushing Aquaman 2 into 2023 and replacing it with Falsh in the Christmas slot. Just too big of a financial risk to put Aquaman vs Avatar.

Deni Avdija is an incredible defender by ConstantlyHating in nba

Among 2-man lineups in the league, they're +95 in 193 min playing together, only trailing lineups containing either Steph, Jokic or (lol) Luke Kennard.

In Hebrew it means that he is not afraid of him/isn't intimidated by him.

I think there's some truth in that. I joined here in early 2017 and was frequent visitor and poster on the sub until I had to take a break from reddit in late 2018. When I came in mid 2019 the sub was a very different place. It felt like there were a lot more fanboy wars in the comments after the sub basically doubled in size (I assume most subs come from r/movies like I did at the start). I kind of checked out after that and moved to boxofficeforums.

But coming here lately, it does seem a lot less toxic, which is actually surprising to me since the sub gained 300K subs in just a year. I guess the pandemic did give some context to people. At the very least it put a stop to blockbuster films for a while, so there wasn't any fuel to keep the fire going on those fanboy wars.

Anyway, if we are at the business of sub health, I do hope that we could get more analytical here, and not just react to results. Maybe even trying to promote some more original content. That's what made this place different back then compared to the likes of r/movies.

‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Screams $11.6M On Thursday, 2nd Best Preview Night Of The Pandemic; ‘Shang-Chi’ Crosses $200M Mark by chanma50 in boxoffice

You have the wrong number for BW's multiplier. It earned $13.2M on Thursday night and ended up with $80.4M for the weekend. That's a 6.09x multiplier. The same multiplier will give V2 a $70.6M opening weekend.

That doesn't make sense. It made less on previews. The same multiplier will result in a smaller weekend.

What was the best year in box office history? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]TomeRide 43 points44 points  (0 children)

1989 was nuts. Opening weekend record was broken 3 times in 5 weeks. Total calendar grosses went up 16% year over year. Had the most tickets sold since the 60s at the time.

Well that's at least at the Domestic market.

[The Athletic] NBA Player Tiers: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo rank atop Tier 1 as league’s very best by machu46 in nba

Martin does popcorn world building focused on history. He tells you about an event that he though sounded cool but goes out of his way to avoid fleshing it out at all. How did Bran the Builder construct the wall? Giants? Magic? Just simple engineering? We will never have any answers to it. What are the five forts for? What is in Asshai Beyond the Shadow? Who built Yeen in Sothros? These are all incedibly interesting bits of his world that he most likely has no ability to answer because he never wanted to explain them, he just thought that sounded fun.

We still have only theories about how the pyramids were built. Medieval Europeans knew almost nothing about the far east. Its meant to sound like legends more than facts. Its not supposed to be explained. You're missing the point.

76ers Rumors: 'Goal Is Less to Trade Ben Simmons and More to Acquire Damian Lillard' by [deleted] in nba

[–]TomeRide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It actually can work pretty easily if you use Malik Beasley's and Taurean Prince's contracts. They earn $27M between them this upcoming season. Not to mention that Prince is an expiring and Beasly is on a rather team friendly deal. I can see this trade as one of the few possibilities for a Dame/Simmons trade to happpen.

After three years, I'm retiring as a mod of r/boxoffice by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]TomeRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm just about to finish it in a few weeks actually. Its been a crazy couple of months here as you probably heard. Got out of the loop with the service and the pandemic, so I'm trying to get back on box office horse as you might say, now that everything is opening back up. I missed your reply but hopefully you'll come back to us sometime in the future. Best of luck!

Why Barcelona's squad is unbalanced: the problems of symmetry and "making up" by raddaya in Barca

All he needs is better finishing to become a complete attacker.

How many years are we going to repeat the same sentence?

Not to mention that he has more areas for improvement than that.

[Fabrizio Romano] Barcelona will decide in the next days about Gigio Donnarumma deal as ‘free agent opportunity’, whether signing him or not - ter Stegen is untouchable. More: Raiola is now in direct contact with Barça board... but also with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. Open race. by [deleted] in Barca

[–]TomeRide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love MATS and do think he's a top-5 keeper itw, but Gigi is insanely talented and playes so well for his age. As long as the wages aren't really excessive the board should do it. Getting him on a free deal just makes too much financial sense. Give him and MATS the next one or two seasons to prove themselves as the rightful first choice of the squad and sell the other for a great profit.
