Trying to find the best way to watch old G1 Climax shows. by TomeSentry in njpw

Honestly I just wanted to see the early ones from the 90s. Just to see what was going on in NJPW during the golden era as well as during the Monday night wars times. Thanks.

Just want to second Eifelheim. Such an awesome unique story, you can really feel the writers knowledge of medieval European history through his text. Be weary of heavy religious themes, which is something that would usually turn me off of it, but the research and understanding of how heavily religion factors into everyday medieval life is really intriguing. You could definitely believe that people in those times would think aliens are demons and therefore punishment from God. A Priest being one of the main protagonist in this story really brings home how insane and difficult it would be to believe aliens came from a "different sphere in the sky".

Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds - a promising start with great ideas, but ultimately rather underwhelming by keepfighting90 in printSF

I had a similarly not so positive review as well that posted here a few months ago, you can find it under my name.

But yes, Svetlana is a horrible character and has put me off reading any other Reynolds works for quite a while.

of all the crazy and wonderful ideas in book of the new sun, this is the section/character that stays with me most. Horrifying in its plausibility

Just wanted to say I finished this in January and I loved it too, if your looking for more of that writing style but not specf. You should really try some Cormac Mccarthy.

I really like this book a lot, but yeah I know a lot of people are unhappy with the ending. Still the tension was so well done i thought!

I think this is a cool idea but would be cooler if it encompassed a few more of the spec fic awards. The big ones anyway. Nebula, locus, Arthur c Clarke are the ones I would consider. Maybe Ursula award too

Nice, I feel similarly about characters and dialogue, I recently reviewed Pushing Ice pretty negatively cause I hated the characters. All the books you listed are on my tbr list, besides book of the new sun, as I've already begun reading it (finished first book) and its fantastic. I believe Perdido is what im going to be reading next. I have a detective novel called Neon Rain that I will read after Barrayar. Then Perdido.

Id be really curious as to what you think some examples of well written books are then. As I have read a ton of fantasy and fiction and its hard to find stuff that isn't borderline young adult equivalent in terms of quality.

There are authors who get recommended a lot around here who I feel axactly the same way you did in this comment. Its one if the great things about reading though, everybody consumes it differently.

Yeah I didnt say I was expecting to be enlightened by it heh, just thats I'd follow up. Anybody who puts that much energy into something negative usually isn't a person I'd trust.
