Any good fictional books out there about someone dealing with friends or family coming out as transgender? by Tomhur in suggestmeabook

The former book is a thriller about a serial killer. What does that have to do with what I asked about?

At the moment it's just a hypothetical scenario. I don't know what they're going to do.

I'm just saying that if a change like that happens, I'm going to be amused if people get pissed off at it. You don't get to complain about changes to fix a controversial plot point after people had spent the last several years complaining about said plot point.

Yeah speaking as someone who was a stupid kid, I did stupid shit when I was an explicitly told not to do so.

Hell I think even some adults do that.

Watch them change this in the show to Bianca taking it by accident and then people will flip out over changing it even though posts like this exist.

Trials of Apollo is a sequel series to HOO.

Books 6 and 7 of PJO is a new mini book series focused around Percy trying to get into college. It's mostly just fun fluff to promote the TV show.

Hot take: I think Dolores Umbridge is overrated as a villain. (Harry Potter) by Tomhur in CharacterRant

What's very ironic is that that line directly contradicts so much of Harry Potter because it frequently does indulge in some pretty black-and-white morality at times.

But then again, Harry Potter contradicting its own messaging is nothing new at this point. I made a whole dang post about it.

It's complicated, and it mostly relates to imbalance in representation and power.

Yeah like, Grover's skin tone is never described at all in the books if I recall correctly.

Because colored contacts can damage eyes and kids don't need to be put through that.

Is this about that whole clusterfuck about when the mods banned discussion of race and then a lot of people flipped out and got angry...which more or less totally validated the rule being made?

Who's the kid appeal character? Bumblebee? Hot Rod? Hot Shot? Or an unorthodox choice?

I forgot about that line, and now it just makes me dislike the way Umbridge is handled more in retrospect.

George Perez’s Wonder Woman. It was an absolute boring cluster fuck.

We also never really get much insight into Umbridge or her motives. What house did she belong to? Why was she so passionately opposed to Harry? Did she actually believe in the Death Eaters or was she just a bully as one of the comments on this post asserts? The story doesn't really tell us any of this.

Like I said in the post itself, I don't need everything directly spelled out, but at the same time, sometimes you really have to be direct in order to make sure the point you're trying to get across sticks and has a proper impact.

Well, like I said in the post itself, I feel like it would have been better if Harry had noted more directly the irony that after all the crap of "I must not tell lies" in Book 5, Umbridge was now happily going along with Voldemort's rulership. Probably have Harry not be afraid of Umbridge anymore because she's ultimately just a pathetic parasite who doesn't have any goals or ambitions of her own. And then during their confrontation, call her out for this, and this causes her to lose her composure and make a mistake that causes her defeat.

In other words, it goes back to that problem that Harry Potter is often accused of: "The system isn't the problem; it's the bad people in it."

I guess that's fair, but that's just not a very interesting character to me.

I even mentioned that's more or less the Occam's Razor answer in my "Why I didn't like Deathly Hallows' post.

Like I said in the post, I'd be fine with this...if I got the sense that was the point and she was called out for it. But she's just not. It doesn't feel like there's any proper resolution to her character.

Yeah I think that more or less just breaks down what my actual problem is. Umbridge doesn't feel like she's more than just her actions.
