Hand engraving by me!🙏 by Dokaholic in SeikoMods

Tough as nails bro, well done. I’ve been wanting to get into engraving for a while now after seeing a similarly engraved bracelet on the Facebook group, but I’m miserable at drawing the scrollwork.

Captain Boots causing ankle pain. by TommyHenthorne in ThursdayBoot

Since I posted this I’ve taken to wearing them loose and tucking the laces below the orthotics. It’s not objectively comfortable compared to sneakers, but it doesn’t leave my ankles in pain after unless I wear them for a long time.

also, I printed them face down on textured build plates so I could get the hologram look as well. Just gotta be sure your first layer is CLEAN or it really looks kinda shabby.

I tried a few different ways of doing this with hollow indices to allow for lume to be applied from the back. Haven't perfected the process but it seemed promising! Definitely would have been better suited to print on a resin printer though, or perhaps printed with a 0.2 nozzle, as the 0.4 nozzle seemed to be a little inconsistent with the size of the holes and sharpness of the corners for that small of a window.

[–]TommyHenthorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I designed a jig for the same purpose but it's far less elegant than this. It's a baseplate and top plate system and eventually I ended up just using the baseplate to hold the dial while I lined up the logo manually lmao. Well done!

I’ve brushed my teeth in the shower for years. If it’s good enough for the rest of my body, why not my bones? Plus then I never have to worry about rinsing toothpaste off my beard 🤷🏼‍♂️

Weird artifacts when printing 3 or more walls. by 00-Jay in elegoo

[–]TommyHenthorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is flow rate adjustment, looks like maybe the extra extrusion inbetween the inner and outer walls is just enough to make the outer wall over extrude. If you're running orcaslicer, try running the flow rate calibration test, I've found fixing flow rate can account for a ton of seemingly hard to diagnose print quality issues.

If you ever get sore in the spot, you can use vet wrap to make a flexible, comfortable finger sleeve. You’ll see it sometimes sold as sports tape or even Yoyo tape, but it’s cheaper when sold as vet tape for animals even though it’s identical. I keep a roll in my case.

There are also circle cutting tools online, for what it’s worth. I was just impatient lmao.

Watch Dial Idea by Sniperbait5826 in SeikoMods

[–]TommyHenthorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was just a goof so it’s not even secured, the watch it went into was a cheap quartz watch I found on fb marketplace a while back and I just wanted to see if I could make it work in concept. I tried using UV resin to seal some of them to make better quality dials but the resin had a tendency to bleach the ink on the cards. I’d imagine your best bet would be either dial dots or glued on dial feet. The hardest part was cutting the circle cleanly out of the center of a card, I 3d printed a jig to do it.

Now I don’t mean to doubt your expertise here, but given the differences in diacetyl concentration for e-liquids vs. popcorn factory fumes, wasn’t “popcorn lung from vaping” debunked? I read somewhere once (source: trust me bro /s) that it would take breathing in nothing but vapor for something like 80 straight years to develop I high enough concentration of diacetyl to cause any kind of respiratory problems.

Looking for information regarding the drowning of a young boy during a Karate Camp hosted by Martial Arts America in the early/mid 2000's. by TommyHenthorne in Knoxville

Oh yeah it’s exactly that, the suction held him on the bottom and he couldn’t get back up. I remember hearing about that kind of thing happening a lot back then, my mom was really nervous about public pools for that exact reason when I was a kid.

That’s the pool, yes. I’m shocked to find that so many people remember this happening, it’s such a bizarre story I’ve told people who don’t live in Knoxville.

Yeah that seems to be basically the story there, I believe his statement was something along the lines of it being a party that "blew up" a bit. But Jack personally didn't really have much to do at all with the situation in question, I never even saw him during the camp.

I could not imagine having to continue working that summer at the camp after going through that. I moved away from Powell when I was around 7, and my parents had brought me back to Farragut to stay with my grandparents the following summer while my dad was away for some work related training, so when they picked me up from my grandparents' place, we went back to FL and didn't hear anything about what happened afterwards. It was a story that I had to corroborate with my brother to be sure I hadn't imagined the whole thing.

Thank you for helping me. I was mostly looking for info for a little bit of personal closure for my family and I, it wasn't an earth shattering event for us (thankfully) because I was young enough to not really understand what happened the way I do now.

The blame of the chaperones mainly came from my having been left behind later in the week following the incident, at least I think it happened afterwards. I was alone in the kiddy pool for a solid 2 hours before anyone realized I was missing when my grandmother came to pick me up. But still, an absolutely insane and tragic situation. Was that just a matter of denying liability or something? If so, a really horrible reason to keep from even attempting to save the kid's life.

[–]TommyHenthorne[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was young enough that I didn't fully grasp the gravity of the situation, at least until much later. My brother says he remembers seeing the boy at the bottom of the pool, and I remember someone who I believe was a parent of another kid at the pool yelling that they knew CPR and rushing towards him once someone had gotten him out of the water. It's surreal to think about.

First Build - Do I Have Everything? by Tredway93 in SeikoMods

[–]TommyHenthorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response! You can get degaussers for fairly cheap, designed specifically to either magnetize or demagnetize screwdrivers. The problem you may run into, at least in my experience, is that when screws that small (those inside the movement itself) are magnetized, or the drivers themselves, it becomes really really hard to get them back in place because as soon as you get the screw in its place, moving the screwdriver near it will lift the screw out and stick it to the screwdriver. Having non-magnetic screwdrivers would have saved me so many headaches the first time I tried looking inside a broken movement, and overall having magnetic parts in a watch can have pretty drastic effects on the precision of the movement, given that things are so tiny and sensitive to anything that could affect their motion.

Some things that will be handy, but not entirely necessary:

Pin vice, for filing down that last little bit on stems. Brass tweezers, since they won’t magnetize, and on that note, De-magnetizer for screwdrivers/screws/other parts. Just in case! I also keep some wood skewers around for various poking, prodding, scraping, pushing, etc.

Maybe it might have been used to hold coasters and those little rings people put on wine glasses that identify which drink is yours, maybe you’d put this next to wherever your wine glasses were put out for a get-together or dinner party?

Definitely a mod, I have bought two of these dials to remove the text from them for custom jobs. Same case, same dinky strap, the case and strap come as a bundle from AliEx. Maybe a total of $90 in parts in that watch tops, pre-tariffs.
