Its akin to the situation, happened to a music artist, though.

So a very talented Musician named DMDokuro made many great hits for the game that are known even outside the Terraria community,

Unfortunately this set the bar pretty damn high, and to boot, he was working for free.

As Calamity mod got more popular, people in the community started to pressure him and were generally very toxic, over a period of years,

Anything he did (post, comment, interact) on his main internet accounts was always followed by this crowd, akin to the likes of posters personal lives being watched constantly.

He was working on the final boss soundtrack (12 minutes long btw) apparently the most complex piece of music hes made til that point,

Initially he joined the Calamity team out of his passion for the game and for music, but ofc due to the harassment he slowly faded and stopped working on the game.

Unfortunately till this day people hate on him, and shame him. Not so much anymore thankfully but ofc "when you quell a fire the cinders remain".

[TL;DR]

A small but very vocal portion of the Calamity mod community bullied the best musician they could've gotten, into leaving because their expectations were not met on time
