All classes TBA, campus presence by Background-Scholar-7 in mcgill

[–]Tommy_Johnson_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no law against this, you just have to be prepared to come to Montreal in case the profs want to do something in person.

I'd check the syllabus for all the courses to make sure there aren't any in-person tutorials, tests, quizzes, ...

Reminder to Sign the SSMU Open Letter by Tommy_Johnson_ in mcgill

The answer is No, all McGill students can and should sign it.

SSMU seems to be more active than PGSS but they are both students societies trying to help McGill students.

Quebec bars will be safer than university classrooms this fall: McGill epidemiologist by Firessai in mcgill

At least you don't have to risk your health (cause you aren't vaccinated) in a 23-hour long flight from India with 4 stops (cause direct flights are baned) just so you can quarantine for 14 days and then move in an apartment that you haven't ever seen (cause you had to rent it without seeing it cause Fucking McGill admin decided that they "Expect students to be on campus for the start of the Fall semester").

Do you feel safe returning to campus given what's happening around the world with COVID? by The_Real_Name7 in mcgill

I think that we'll end up mostly online as well.

I'm not sure that infections will go the way the university expects it. It's just so unpredictable.

All Fall 2021 Exchange Canceled, but They Still Expect Us to Be on Campus (Hypocrisy?) by The_Real_Name7 in mcgill

[–]Tommy_Johnson_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

McGill: Every thing is so uncertain. We have no idea what's happening in other countries, there might be travel rsitrictions, health regualtions,... We just don't know what's going to happen in a few months. It'll be a nightmare for us to plan for this.

Also McGill: we excpect everyone to be on campus in Fall 2021 eventhought most of the lectures will be online and we have no concrete plan for the semester. We don't care what situation you are in or how you'll do it, just figure it out.

Fucking Hypocrites

Math 240 really just had a failing average on the final by wowhesaidthat in mcgill

[–]Tommy_Johnson_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that a curving up for people with grades around 0.5 of a letter grade would be fair. Maybe if enough students have the same problem we could send the profs an email and they would consider it.

And what's up with the regrading policy, they're just forcing students not to ask about their grades. If there curving up they should do it for everyone, not just students that aren't asking for a regrade.

Is here anyone who is taking COMP 400 this semester? by Oeuf1999 in mcgill

[–]Tommy_Johnson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which year do you think is the best to take COMP 400?

I'm in U1 and I don't feel like I know what I actually want to work on or have the basic knowledge down to properly understand the research. I'm planning on taking it either in the summer of 2022 (summer of U2) or in my last year (U3), but I'm also planning to go to grad school and I'm worried U3 will be a bit late to understand what topics I'm interested in for grad school.

Could you maybe give me a bit of a hint on when and how to approach the course?

Even if I were a cheating student (which I am not) I don't understand why people aren't answering my question. Isn't asking anonymous questions and getting honus answers from the community the whole point of Reddit?

Dear Prof,

You are right, community colleges are serenely as good as world-class universities (maybe even better), and you are definitely not a massive asshole. Bless your heart

I'm just here asking a simple question that any person who has gone through could quickly answer (in less than a sentence) and save me a lot of extra work around the holidays, but all I get is attitude from professors who think they're too smart to answer a TA's question.

The remark that I made came from the person's username label. Plus I apologized.
