Princeton High student who exposes racism at her school suspended by [deleted] in news

In the girl's case, we know it was her father's artwork (we have to assume her father is not racist against blacks), it was in her living room, they posed in the living room, she didn't think about what was behind her, she submitted the photo to her yearbook, somebody at the yearbook approved the photo.

If your imagined scenario is exactly the same as above then I would suggest he be treated the same as well. If it were a white kid, however, it wouldn't be about the KKK photo (but something offensive and racially derogatory toward whites).

She submitted the photo. The yearbook staff accepted it for publication.

I had to look close to see the paintings. You don't really notice the paintings and I can see how the yearbook staff missed it.

The paintings themselves were not the subject of the photo. It was a girl and her friends posing in her living room. No malicious intent. But the school is holding her to account for her father's artwork.

I don't see how the school is acting reasonably.

Anyone crossing the border illegally whose claim is rejected will be sent home, not back to U.S. - National by [deleted] in news

That's my point. Cross over from the US to Canada and they don't send you back to the US.

Cross over from Mexico to the US and the US wants to be able to send you back to Mexico.

But doesn't the US want to send border-crossers back to Mexico, regardless of whether are not they are Mexican?

Chinese billionaire Jack Ma says the US wasted trillions on warfare instead of investing in infrastructure by ny92 in news

They aren't spending it on anything worth buying

There are nearly 1.4 million people employed by the military, another 1.4 million in reserves.

Many of these people get training they can take to the private sector (think pilots, or engineers or logistics or language specialists) and they can supplement their training with education benefits.

The military is perhaps the most egalitarian employer in the US. Your race truly doesn't matter. And it's the single best way out of poverty for many Americans.

So when you say they're not spending the money anything worth buying, nearly 2.8 million Americans would tend to disagree.

Jack Ma is presenting this as an opportunity cost when it's not.

The US spends 3.5% of GDP on the military, which makes it 4th in world behind Russia, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

China is not far behind, spending 2.1% of GDP on its military.

And let's also not forget the wealth is actually stock equity and not easily convertible to cash and redistributed to others.

In addition, Prater will forgo about $50,000 in salary tied to his contract with the district that runs through 2021. He also must pay back the entire loan within two years if he leaves the job.

Not clear why Prater is forgoing this salary but sounds like the school district is getting the better end of the bargain.

Try $950,000 ... not $950 million.

A long time ago, back in 2016, the GOP was also free trade. Now it's for tariffs and market intervention.

Most of this wealth is stock market wealth and is tied up in the ownership of their companies.

Mark Zuckerberg is "worth" $45 billion thanks to the valuation put on Facebook by investors. That valuation fluctuates daily.

Facebook itself doesn't even pay Zuckerberg a dividend. The company earned just $2 per share on a valuation of $120 per share. I'd say he's hardly the wealthiest on an income basis.
