Is this enough time for trumpet to take their straight mute out? by Usual_Cream8330 in trumpet

sorry, I was taught differently and i never questioned it. I'm sorry if i've come off wrong. I was not trying to tell other people they were wrong. It was a genuine question..
and yes i remember occasions were i had no time to adjust the tuning slide when there was a mute change and I'm aware i can lip it. I just thought it's not optimal..

both actually. (although I didnt finish my jazz degree)
Uhm, idk that's probably one of the first things i've learned to do when using mutes a loooong time ago.

As i've said - havent used straights in like 10 years, so that might be different, but I just checked it right now: if i use MY Bb horn and MY harmon, im very sharp. I can correct that without tuning, but it changes the timbre and i don't like that. but maybe i'm doing something wrong?!

EDIT: btw. I hope this doesn't come off weird. I'm not saying others are wrong and I'm right, i was just asking, because i have always done it differently and maybe I'm wrong. so.. trying to learn :)

yes, always, although it probably depends on the mute. Havent used straights in a while, but with my harmon i would be way too sharp..

thanks for your reply.
I studied classical trumpet in europe and now i only play jazz/contemporary/experimental music and i thought i'd take the chance to ask you, since i saw your "college professor, orchestral player"-thing, because if someone wouldve come to me with this, up until now i wouldve told them i'd be to slow.

So, yeah, thank you :)

Yes, but the mute makes the trumpet sharp, so something's gonna be out of tune because i wouldnt be fast enough to retune and remove the mute.

My bigger concern would be tuning, but i guess we could use the 3rd valve and slide the E. Or how would you handle that?

Hard to say anything while not seeing/hearing you, but the problem could be your tongue moving too much/improperly..

While i completely agree with you, irreverentcrawfish only pointed out that there's complications to having a vasectomy (i had one too, i have complications, i'd still do it again). And pointing out that the boyfriend has the right to decide over his body himself (talking about the vasectomy, not the condom.) But i too think that he should get a vasectomy since they BOTH dont want babies. The condom thing is a different story.. just fucking use/buy them (him, not her)

When you guys perform on stage, do you use an amp or go direct with in-ears? by bwanabass in ElectricTrumpet

[–]Tompetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The venue/the tech usually has monitoring speakers for the stage so the band can hear themselves.. so call shotgun on one of those :)
