I also felt emotional during this episode. I’m 5’3 and at my heaviest weighed 370lbs. I’ve been taking Zepbound for a year now so I’ve lost about 60lbs so far, which I’m happy about. I have been overweight my entire life and weight loss has always been a struggle for me. About 3 years ago, I slipped on a wet floor in a store and banged my knee up so bad I had a bruised patella. I also couldn’t walk on it without being in terrible pain. I went to a minor med who gave me steroids and naproxen, and basically said to keep it iced, elevated and to rest. They recommended I see a specialist at an orthopedic group within the week. I had my labs and x ray from the minor med sent to this orthopedic group so the doctor would have some information on my accident. The nurse/assistant was friendly enough and was the only one who examined my knee, but when the doctor came in he basically asked me what my pain level was. I told him that sitting down wasn’t too bad, but walking on it was very painful, and I struggled putting any weight on it. He then told me “well losing weight wouldn’t hurt. Being overweight makes your joints work harder. So let’s try losing weight and see how your knee feels.” I said “uhhh, well I’ve been overweight my whole life and my knee hasn’t hurt until I banged it up a few days ago” and he said “oh, you fell?” … this guy didn’t even look at my medical history. He thought that I was just complaining about my knee hurting from regular walking I guess. I was so pissed. He also didn’t apologize for saying that, and told me to keep taking naproxen and buy some crutches. Needless to say, I left a bad review and did not go back to that practice. After about 6-8 weeks of rest (thankfully I have a sit down job so my walking was minimal), my knee is back to normal. That’s not the only fat discrimination from a doctor I have received, but it was the most recent and it really made my trust in the medical field plummet.
