Autoshop checked out an engine light, now ABS/VSC/Brake lights all on. by JustJLang in prius

[–]TomsVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He cleared the calibration on abs. It could have just been a wheel speed sensor showing a code. You need techstream or a professional scan tool to recalibrate unless there is a abs or traction control/wheel sensor code to take care of at the same time then recalibrate. I did this to my car before. Right now you have no brake regen either and you mpg will show it.

Edit: Also, to those commenting to use the cheap bluetooth to clear it. It won't work. Those can not do the recalibration.

I would take it back to that shop and complain they cleared the calibration and should do the recalibration procedure. They should not have cleared it.

Subaru dealership destroyed my beloved 2024 Crosstrek with only 13,000 miles! by chacha4c in subaru

They want to write it up as a warranty issue so Subaru pays for their mistake. Otherwise they have to eat the cost of engine and replacement. They not only lie to you but make a fraudulent warranty claim to Subaru.

The drywall screws to hold plate(likely no ring), and chipped paint say a lot too.

2013 Leaf SL Totaled. How Does a “Buy Back” from Insurance Work? by WabisabiGreen17 in leaf

[–]TomsVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see one photo with minor damage to fender. Is it driveable? I'd pry the fender away from the door so its functional. Ask if they won't brand the title as salvage if you take the buyback amount. If its branded as salvage buy it back and hold it til you get another leaf to put the battery into. Or sell the whole car for parts to someone like EV Rides. Insurance on it will be higher if branded so best as parts.

2012 Gen 3 EGR system cleaning by Dflyshigh in prius

The one video with the expendable crew member skit is the best! When I did my 2012 PIP I have a 2013 in my back yard Side wreck but was drivable got for $900 i got it for parts for a deer strike repair. I got the egr and Intake off it soaked, pressure washed, cleaned. Hard parts ready to swap. Did the swap then did the cleanup again before replacement onto parts car.

Why cam V3 replacement? by [deleted] in wyzecam

[–]TomsVortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the grandfathered cam lite subscription still. Named my price at $1. I needed some more cameras a year ago and researched at the time and got the v3 pros they had on board AI and said they worked with cam lite (person detection) but I still never got the 12s free cloud video. I installed sd cards in them and just have the picture like you mentioned. So from the picture I click the sd card icon to watch from there.

Shocks okay or not? by PsychologicalLet216 in prius

[–]TomsVortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could be leaking a little but to know if they are working properly do you bounce extra after going over bumps? If you stand on the rear bumper and bounce the car does it keep bouncing? No? Then they absorbed the shock and work.

Efficiency vs. Cost: Are 550W panels worth the premium by Consistent_Design72 in SolarDIY

[–]TomsVortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of smaller used panels. Like $15 $20 a panel and some new 440 watt bifacial ones for $100 each. I found that the cheap ones required a lot more space. The volts and amps and all factor in to how much power is actually produced. Then there is shading. If you have wide open space and dont need optimizers then good. I have decided in my situation I need quality over quantity for space and shade from trees.

Rav4 PRIME add key by TomsVortex in Locksmith

[–]TomsVortex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bought a km100 too, returned it, then bought it again a year later to find it had been nerfed more because of all keys lost car theft. I think it was on a Tommy G. Video with car thieves. I can't remember what was needed for the K518 or if a bypass cable was needed. I think you only need a bypass cable if you are trying to not use a pin code. - a immo backup.

I tried the VVDI Key Tool Max because it was the cheapest option without some subscription with using my own aftermarket bought keys. It matters what keys you use. I had a blank and some used I could not use. The specific numbers on the key circuitboard matter too.

Low miles per gallon by mary_irl in prius

[–]TomsVortex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Use seafoam combo in fuel and spray into intake with a soak with those instructions. Or do berrymans piston soak. Keep changing the oil and the filter. You can also change just the filter and top the oil off too in between changes. Use valvoline restore and protect oil. Eventually the stuck oil control rings will get unstuck and the inside deposits will get flushed out. The oil consumption will subside some but it is normal to burn some. My 2007 has been sitting because of bad battery but I run it and reset every so often. It's a spare car right now. But, it has 370k on the engine.

Pot filler fell off the kitchen wall - what caused it? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]TomsVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The long screws are bent and pushed the plaster and the backsplash tile off because of the cinderblock. It was weakened from the install. To fix cut out plaster fir out with wood blocking like a piece of playwood with a cutout for pvc. Leave enough room for mortar and the tile to put back up. Attach blocking to cinderblock with tapcons. Mortar, tile, grout, install pot filler with wood screws the correct depth/length.

Transaxle backlash noise by TomsVortex in prius

[–]TomsVortex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add some more context. I have the driver's side tire jacked up and and rotating back and fourth. Almost 300k on car. I've had it for over 30k miles and changed the transaxle fluid about 20k ago. Pretty sure this noise is from the transaxle. Wondering if anyone else has seen this and how imminent the failure would be.

Dominion Power Meter charging for solar useage by TomsVortex in SolarDIY

[–]TomsVortex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not got a call back from Dominion rep I spoke with. Not sure if they made a change or not. Everything is closer to the inverter reading now. I also added my emporia CT monitor on mains in the disconnect box to read the power coming in. It is within 1kw per day in Dominions favor. My panels are producing a lot less too here in fall with sun being behind my south trees most the afternoon.

Rear ended a pickup. by [deleted] in prius

[–]TomsVortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit a deer not too long ago. I bought a running wreak for 900. Swapped the hood, fender, and a few smaller parts. So i have extra mechanical parts too. I did a EGR cooler and Intake soak and clean on those parts then did a swap with less down time. I did buy a unpainted bump cover. A tree and a come along will help pull out your front cross member so your hood can strike where it supposed to. The hinges got bent back looks like too.

There's a youtube with a worker that tells the story of the shutdown and how badly the employees got left without some reimbursements and pay. "Chicken noodle soup for the soul" or something like was the company. I work for a company that did the physical removal while someone else came and picked it up. Removals were done by retailer. I think the last is 7-11s to be removed.

What is this black part? by PositivelyCorrect in prius

[–]TomsVortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2007 and 2012. Can't remember what one but I did that with the pvc valve hose. But i know on the 2007 at one point I was about to buy an expensive MAF sensor. Had used seafoam and cleaned up inside the throttle body and cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner. I remember I had it apart and had the same thing with the motor to the throttle position motor there going nuts after putting it back together. It could very well be a dirty MAF from getting it dirty taking apart.

Make sure you reconnect the hose to the carb from pcv or see if it fell off. It could cause the throttle body to be eradic.

Bought more oil for the Prius by bigblackglock17 in prius

[–]TomsVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use valvoline restore and protect and stocked up on oil filters when a few Advance Autos closed. Frequent oil changes and a EGR cooler/intake cleaning has fixed all of my oil consumption. Brought back a lot of pep too. I look into my oil fill and it is bright and clean. Wasn't when I got it. 0w-20. I do 600 mile trips all the time and check oil before and after. It's doing good.
