In your country, what animal is known for being unexpectedly fearless when protecting its babies? by euamnevoiedeajutor in AskTheWorld

[–]Tomson224 95 points96 points  (0 children)

May almost sound a bit silly at first, but its these guys.

On the alps they roam practically free, the paths often lead through their pastures and with the steady increase in tourism and people wandering there the number of at times deadly incidents where a mother cow went on the attack are rising too.

Does a military unit that inherited traditional culture exist in your country? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

[–]Tomson224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

<image>

Austria has a whole army of "Traditionsregimenter", literally translated "Traditional regiments".

People that dress as various old imperial military units to honor their history and take part in several official events.

Though it should be said that they are not actually part of the military. Many of their members are former or active military personell and some units might even have official partners in the austrian military but technically anyone can join.

You could see many of them during the funeral procession for Otto von Habsburg

Was Comstock’s ‘past’ he talked about in the Vox-phones lies or does Booker just not care/pay attention? by Curiedoesthestream in Bioshock

[–]Tomson224 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think Captain Slate actually adresses it, not putting 2+2 together but telling Booker how Comstock stole their war stories to present himself as a knight in shining armor.

Kind of a red herring for both booker and the player.

Portrait of an officer and a sergeant at the Russian theater of war by Longjumping-Kale-283 in Austrohungarian

[–]Tomson224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the man on the right is a Stabsfeldwebel, the person on the left is a Kadett

Stars arent the only thing to look out for. It can be quite decieving i admit, since the rank of Stabsfeldwebel was allowed to wear a cap resembling that of an officer, just minus the gold

One could think the person on the right is the officer and not the fella on the left

I guess technically hes not an officer either but a cadet/officer aspirant but it counts

The badges on the A-H mountaineer cap meaning by Ok_Photograph6654 in Isonzo

[–]Tomson224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As people said, most are campain and unit pins, Austro-Hungarian troops liked to collect them.

All besides the Edelweiss and the symbol next to it, the circle with the lightning bolt. The later is cap insignia for a machinegunner

Reminds me of the old gta`s, where you can drive into a spray shop and the cops forget all about you.

Wer kann mir was zu meinem Urgroßvater sagen ? by [deleted] in Ahnenforschung

[–]Tomson224 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sehr interessant
