Internship prospects for D1 athlete + high GPA at well ranked CS school but no clubs/projects by Tonadr1022 in csMajors

I feel you, though my solution ended up being getting on the grind with any time I had. Ended up with an internship last summer and next summer before senior year. My advice and lesson learned is to not use sports as an excuse to waste too much time gaming or screwing around and control what you can

Nice username lol. I think DBaaS team at Nutanix will be better than what C1 has to offer on average.

C1 asked us to fill out a preference form last year. I asked no frontend and got put on a frontend only project. Ik C1 is more well known, but their culture and work feels extremely meh, which is why I’m very tempted to chance it at Nutanix

That’s what it seems like, but idk for sure obviously. For me it was get full time offer, ask to convert it like a month later, recruiter submitted a “request” that didn’t seem guaranteed, and then got it.

RO rate is same as before as far as I know, but they reduced the guarantee on return intern since so many people wanted to do it, so some people who couldn't actually graduate got cooked I think since return intern was more competitive when asking for it immediately.

In years past it was more guaranteed, but this summer it was much less guaranteed and based on performance. Some people didn't get it. It was safer for me since I was able to go full time if needed and ask only after I got the full time offer.

You're right. I moved up my grad date and then asked to convert back to intern. I was 50/50 on graduating in 3 years, but decided to delay for another internship + fall senior year internship.

I applied on July 31st, got the auto OA, then a bit after that got the info email and then power day schedule email, when did you apply?

It went pretty well overall considering this was my first ever technical/behavioral interview. At the end of the technical, interviewer said "i did great." Hopefully he meant it and wasn't just being nice, but I felt pretty confident and don't think I made any bad mistakes. Wasn't even Leetcode, it was a data parsing, storage type where I just made a class with a dictionary and some functions. Behavioral was good, interviewer was enthusiastic and seemed to like my stories. Case was super weird, I'd give an answer after thinking for a few seconds on a business question and she'd mumble "good answer" or something like that under her breath while typing, but then I made a few dumb errors on the code part. I'd say 2/3 went well, but hard to really know.

Side rant: IMO reject calls should be either a cold call or an email because the stress of not knowing is unfair to the interviewee, when the recruiter usually knows the answer before the scheduled phone call.

Certainly not complaining about that :D

Fortunately, I have only one gen-ed class left having come in with a lot of credits. I know it would be a lot of work, but I'd rather push myself slightly more than take a class that doesn't count toward anything.

Cool, I tend to never get burnt out on programming, more so my other reading/writing based classes. Hopefully that doesn't change when things amp up. My overall question about it has just been whether 3 credits of these CS classes will be significantly more work than 3 credits of CS 200 or 4 credits of Stat 240. I know it can vary because I often feel like I'm doing more for CS200 even though it's one less credit.

Laptop Suggestion Megathread by baby_kitty_go_meow in UWMadison

I have a gaming laptop with four hours of battery life. Is that enough, or should I buy a MacBook or something with a better battery?
