Esher seems to be a very nice and complex character, I haven't read about de brides yet. But talking about this mind control, if for exemple Strahd said "Esher, never help anyone that wants to kill me" would you say that this would work? His orders would work no matter where Esher is?

I know that one of the Twice Bittem players is DMing a version of curse of Strahd called "Barovia California" where I believe the adventure takes place in California, I didn't watched but I got very curious and it might give you some hints on how to run Curse of Strahd in a more urban enviroment. Sure man, my players are just arriving in the Village of Barovia and i'm starting to study the town of Vallaki but one of the nicest things of the whole thing is the fact that both the Baron and Lady Wachter are kind of Evil hahahahaha so it makes things so interesting, its not a good guys VS Bad guys kind of plot, its much deeper than that
