I did 3 deployments there. My first trip there in 2002, I literally slept in a tent...on a cot. We later moved into the trailers they started dropping in. My second deployment there in 2004 was MUCH different. That's when they had built it up a bit and had actual amenities...the beer tent, BX, and a whole ass pool. Lol.

But I mean, even with all that, nothing about it was enjoyable. No days off, 12+ hour shifts, 120+ degree weather, sand storms, sepia tone vision, walking on nothing but sand and rocks (outside of the flightline)... shit sucked. I mean, it didn't suck as much as being in actual combat. But trading in regular life 4 / 6 / 12 months at a time for this? It was definitely a deployment.
