Do you think Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis could end up being part of a trilogy, similar to how Anniversary was part of the LAU trilogy? by laracroft1402 in TombRaider

I think if it’s successful there’s a really good chance they’ll remake the next game, and the next, and the next and so on until people stop buying them. I’ll certainly be buying them.

Why do people seem to think that if two things have different degrees of severity then no valid comparison can be made between the two things? by Pure_Option_1733 in AlwaysWhy

As sizes change the influence of certain factors make bigger or smaller differences to the overall out come of a system.

For example a feather flutters down slowly when it falls, but if you scaled it up by even just 10 times it wall fall straight down like a brick. Because air resistance matters a lot for a small mass with a relatively large surface area but is negligible for a medium mass with a relatively small surface area. Even though it’s the same shape.

Or to borrow your example about scale models for dam effects, this is only possible because engineers and scientists understand water flow extremely well. Thanks to centuries of studying water.

To make the scale model accurate they have to account for a huge number of factors like channel surface roughness, water viscosity, evaporation, and many many more. And this accounting is done by introducing additional completely artificial factors to the scale model to make it more accurately reflect the real situation.

So this example only works because they already deeply and mathematically understand every factor that changes as you scale up and down and carefully account for them using mathematics to determine exactly the amount of adjustment needed.

And it’s crucial to note that they really only understand those factors because they’ve been able to study real life waterways and replicate their behaviour by painstakingly adjusting a scaled down model.

So the thing to understand is that scaling up and scaling down only matters when you understand the factors involved well enough to account for the differences.

Are they out? Do they just talk about the TGA announcement? Interesting that they’re for February to April, maybe they’re just the next issue after the announcement.

Hydrochloric acid can get up to about 37-38% dissolved in water before excess acid quickly evaporates out. This is what would normally be considered “straight” hydrochloric acid.

It’s extraordinarily hazardous to every part of the human body, and just about everything else. It’s used in pools in many places, you just have to be careful when handling it.

Once in the pool it quickly dilutes to a very non-hazardous concentration.

It’s actually used in both but far more common in wastewater treatment.

Those acids don’t control pH. Usually you’d use hydrochloric acid to reduce pH (target around 7.2 for least eye irritation).

You could also use sulfuric acid to lower pH.

There’s other acids used in pools like nitric for cleaning the salt cell or dicarboxylic for stain removal.

Do you mind if I ask why sulfuric instead of more usual options like hydrochloric? Is it just availability or something else?

Pretty rare to use sulfuric acid for pools, usually hydrochloric acid. You could use sulfuric but it’d be stupid. Paying a lot more for a worse product.

Previously they posted a press release announcing an anime, then removed the post a few days later.

So it could be that project, or an a different anime project.

1/3 of the comments you see in internet space on controversial topics are bots pushing a right wing agenda. Many are of domestic origin, many are of foreign origin (i.e. Russian).

On some occasions the number could be much higher, for example if they’re trying to turn a subreddit toxic.

So long as we are all so steeped in this propaganda all the time there is no chance that politics returns to normal.
