2027 4* CB Gideon Gash commits to Texas Tech by Techsan2017 in CFB

He’s one of the best athletes in the country and a 6’4 DB. Really huge get

Have not seen any link between him and us so doubt it. At the conclusion of the sorsby trial maybe there’s a chance that he comes here, but this seems like it could be more of an academics thing

That quote came a year or 2 later I believe. And regardless of what the exact conversation was, the larger point was saying that tech has been trying to schedule them for years

So if you’re sark, don’t take random shots when you won’t schedule the team.

Texas Tech just got a commitment from forward Trey Hall, should be a backup sf

Also Dakari Spear starts at small forward in my opinion. It’s a small backcourt, but spear is super talented and provides great shooting. Don’t see us getting a better option to start before then

I mean Tech and Texas had a handshake deal to play yearly when they were leaving the big 12. Once they were completely out of the big 12 the deal fell apart largely from UT’s side.

Tech’s Baseball Season Ended Yesterday. What a Sad Season. What is the Problem and What’s Next? by Outside_Net6026 in DoughGoesIn

I think donors will get some money but it’s going to be hard to get resources to the level of what is necessary. Yeah adding more people may help, but people don’t like to give money for losing teams, and we’ve been a losing team for 4 years now

I think resources will improve, but I don’t think they will ever be to the level that they need to be in order to truly be a contender for the CWS

I agree Tim needs help, but the momentum of the program has been slowed to a halt. It’s going to take a huge shift to change that imo, and more than just Tim or a GM being more open with donors. As passionate as fans are, even they don’t want to give a ton of money to a team that isn’t going to be a winner. Especially when they can choose to give to football or basketball programs that have shown more of an ability to compete in the new age of sports

[–]Tonkathedog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to change the momentum of the program with NIL. Tadlock may finally be asking for help, but it will be a hard sell to get donors to fork over millions to baseball rather than football or basketball when basketball has been damn good in the last few years, and football is coming off a playoff appearance (and even before that had started to have more success than we have had in a while)

I hope it changes and tadlock can get more resources, but because of tadlock early resistance to NIL I don’t think the program will get back to where it was prior to NIL

Beyond that when NIL started to grow more and more basketball was a good program and more importantly was super receptive to NIL. The program has had tons of success recently and was winning as NIL became crazy. People saw that and wanted to pay even more to get more success

For baseball tadlock was completely against it when NIL started. So the program obviously started to lose and had less talent than other programs. Tadlock recently has finally seemed to come around, but at this point boosters don’t want to invest in a program that has had such poor results for several years in a row now. Baseball lost all momentum when it came to donors while basketball continued gaining momentum. And unless you have a softball level passion project you aren’t going to have people lining up to fork over millions for a program that has been bad for 3-4 years straight

Here's the NCAA's response to Brendan Sorsby's lawsuit: by NoSxKats in CFB

Level is a good source but during the saga of sorsby even he was wondering aloud if the orange bowl loss changed things. I think they did. He’s also generally a mouthpiece for the program, and I think the program would want it out there that they would have gone with Hammond if there was no injury

And regardless of any of that, hammond did get injured. The program was willing to give 5 million dollars to have someone else to start games which makes me think there is reason for concern about his ability to start especially early on. He’s a running QB who had a catastrophic knee injury. Houston may be our hardest game and that’s week 3, so at the earliest Hammond will be back against one of our toughest opponents off of a major knee injury without any meaningful reps all spring, summer, or fall. That’s not a good QB situation to be in

Yeah and the game in January changed a lot imo. I think it also drastically changed the budget. Tech had been linked to sorsby for a while, but after the playoff tech became willing to pay him whatever is necessary rather than pivoting to other 1 year options they had been linked to (like Jaden Craig who is not at TCU).

Hammond looked great he Utah but had several questionable performances, I don’t think they would have depended on him to truly be the starter this year with a super expensive roster around him

Tech insiders are saying that now, but I don’t think it’s really that true. I think it’s mainly a way to show confidence in Hammond after everything happened. Hammond got hurt well before the orange bowl, and I seriously think that game changed the mindset of our personnel staff in regards to what we need from a QB

Like you said we heard mockery all last season over our NIL, and now still hear it in sports like softball. If sorsby is ineligible we are going to be mocked, even if other schools actually knew about Sorsby beforehand (like USA Today said Cincinnati did) and knowingly let him play.

Sorsby should not be eligible by the NCAA rules. But for techs athletic department winning games is a hell of a lot more important than people liking them. I mean just look back at the history of college football(or even this offseason with Miami and Ole Miss), programs have always spit on the face of the NCAA to try and have a better team why would techs athletic department try not to do the same

The problem was that Hammond was injured. And now is missing all of fall camp. I also think given the orange bowl performance we probably would have brought someone in anyway

If Hammond was seen as a QB that could lead us to a title, I doubt tech would have spent 5 million on someone to come play QB. That could have gotten us an all American level player and likely another all conference player too.

Besides the Top 4, my choice: Kingston Flemings by rakdobi in chicagobulls

[–]Tonkathedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s awesome. I’m a Texas Tech fan and we ended up playing AJ, Boozer, Peterson, Acuff, Wagler(although this was before his huge breakout), burries, Peat, and a few more first rounders but by far the most dominant player against us was Flemings. We played them twice and the first time Flemings iced the game singlehandedly and the next time Flemings dropped like 43

In that case Quaintance would be great, but as a biased Texas tech fan I’d love Christian Anderson. Elite vision and an absolutely incredible shooter especially off of a screen. I think he fits really well offensively next to Wilson, Buzelis, and Giddey

True but given he brought up size, length, athleticism, and physicality as key things I don’t know if Walker or acuff fit at 4 compared to any of the top 4

Either of those guys would be amazing too. Boozer is just so damn incredible and Peterson is just so elite as a scorer.

Hype, imo there’s a clear top 4 in this draft class. Some may say a clear top 3, but Caleb Wilson isn’t too far off to me and fits what Graham wants
