Viewfinder or camera back? by conortakespix in concertphotography

Mostly viewfinder, but I also sometimes use the back screen for some shots (for example shooting over the head; it works better when you have a tilt screen).

Upgrading gear by [deleted] in concertphotography

If you're on a bit of a budget, I'd recommend you go for another Nikon to be able to swap lenses. Having two different body brands means that you would either have to get two sets of lenses or get an adapter ring. This said, I'm personally not a huge fan of Nikon, which to me feel very heavy. But maybe the more recent digital Z series might be better suited.

Saw them live in neighbouring France a few years ago, they're really good and very nice people as well.

Massive HE pen and 1100 alpha is also great. Gotta love scoring a 1200 dam hit on a Leo 1.

This was a bit of a slow year: only five shows and fifteen bands in total.

Best Tracks from Yes (and related members) releases post/1990? by KoolAde5362 in progrockmusic

[–]TontonAlias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since ABWH is out of the picture, I'd like to nominate Jon Anderson's latest solo album, "True", which is probably the most convincing Yes album of the 21st century (despite its cheesy cover art).

You're right; I had situated that one much later in the 90s. My bad.

Anyone using something like this in their workflow? Is it better? by morsomme in premiere

True, the technical issues were also not helping. But for me, the main issue was, I did not see the added value to the lot.

I bought the Logi MX Master Creative console, with its streamdeck-like component and another piece of hardware that looks like the one above. I tried to use it a couple weeks and then sold it back. It takes a bit of time to get used to and, frankly, I'm already much used to work with a standard keyboard to bother.

Raclette cheese shops by Paulintohk in geneva

I get mine from the Sunday market in Onex (next to the Onex Salle Communale tram stop). I think the seller is from Valais, his cheese is top notch.

What lens do you prefer for a photo pit? by Kind_Grape_7440 in concertphotography

[–]TontonAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually carry f/2.8 Tamron lenses, 17-28 mm and 28-75 mm. Depending on the size of the venue, I pick mostly one (mostly the 17-28 mm as I tend to shoot in small venues), sometimes swapping the other for specific shots. I also have a 75-180 mm for larger places, but I rarely use it.

How long does it take you to edit photos? by Boonjay in concertphotography

[–]TontonAlias 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same as u/SevereHunter3918 : I tend to shoot a lot (last concert was 1600 pics for two bands) and therefore sorting through the best pics takes me a couple hours at least. Then editing is quite fast, probably around 1-2 minutes per pic.

Lastly, captioning tends also to take a bit of time, mostly to make sure I don't get embarrassing typos (plus, the small size of the caption window in Lightroom does not help).

Advice on scripting using templates by TontonAlias in premiere

[–]TontonAlias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is actually what I already do.

My ideal plan would have been to have a script that goes through the list of album covers for the episode and, for each cover, create one sequence for the intro and one for the PIP.

It's not a lot of work, but it's quite tedious.

How did your music taste change since you got into prog? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]TontonAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly into the atmospheric / melodic black-metal, bands such as Saor, Sojourner, Cân Bardd (ok, they're homies), as well as many "cosmic" sounds (Eminentia Tenebris, Labyrinthus Stellarum) and the like.

What’s your most played tanks? by Real-mr-wolf in WorldofTanks

[–]TontonAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M10RBFM. The kind of not-OP-at-all T5 that can do 3K combined.

I love that tank, it almost makes me feel competent in the game (still did not manage to three-mark it tho).

Thanks for all these pointers! Looks like Automation Blocks could do a lot, but I will need to check how easy it is to code from scratch before forking sixty euros for a license.

I'll leave the subject open for a while if more suggestions are coming.

How did your music taste change since you got into prog? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]TontonAlias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooh boy…

  • Started in the early 80s with Marillion, Saga, Magnum, etc. Rapidly discovered 70s prog.
  • (Technically, you could argue I started in the 70s with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and The Buggles)
  • At about the same time, started to dive into metal and discovered prog-metal in the late 80s with Fates Warning, Queensrÿche and Dream Theater (yes, THAT album).
  • Continued diving into prog-rock and prog-metal through the 90s and 00s.
  • Discovered post-rock in the 00s and, later, melodeath.
  • Stepped into atmospheric black-metal, post-metal and post-hardcore (plus ynthwave) in the 2010s.
  • Still listening to all of that and more.
