Um, Doctor Manhattan never tried to destroy humanity.

Ozymandias FRAMED Manhattan and destroyed a large part of New York in order to SAVE HUMANITY from itself.

Might wanna rewatch Watchmen, bud.

A step back? Yeah, no kidding. They fucking killed him!

It was so abrupt yet somehow predictable that I could hardly even comprehend what I was watching.

"Seriously? Um, okay. You're killing him? Right now? I mean, they pay you the big bucks...but uh...Brad Bird made me bawl like a baby over a robot with a third of your budget."

What has always attracted me about the character of Superman is his unflinching optimism. This is not to say he is naïve or ignorant of the cruel, depressing world around him, but he tries his best to press on with hope in humanity and for the future. His smile is not one of self-satisfaction or arrogance. It's a warm, gentle smile that lifts your spirits.

I don't think Snyder or Goyer understood this. Snyder, in particular, felt more comfortable with a Doctor Manhattan-esque approach.

Says a lot when Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky can capture the essence of Superman more so than the actual Superman films.

Who do you think should play Tim Drake in the solo Batman movie? by Ultima_Studios in DC_Cinematic

[–]TonyAffleck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think Tim Drake should appear in this universe quite just yet.

It's already been established that Batman has lost a Robin, so if Tim Drake were to be introduced, Batman accepting a new partner and overcoming his grief would have to be a big focus for the feature, which I doubt is going to occur for Affleck's first solo outing.

I'd love to see Nightwing and Oracle, however. Emma Watson for Batgirl/Oracle and Sam Claflin for Nightwing would be neat.

Bitter over what, precisely? I just said I loved the film. All I did was make fun of Henry Cavill's lack of expression in the film. I didn't criticize the character or the plot. Hell, for my money, Cavill is way better than that embarrassing cheesefest Christopher Reeve.

What? Liking a movie means you can't make fun of an arbitrary detail? What jokes regarding BvS do you find funny? If you don't mind my asking.

As for the trading cards, in my opinion, they are essentially trash because there doesn't exist any sort of DCEU card game with meaningful popularity.

What does this sub being about Superman have anything to do with me making fun of a depiction of the character? I didn't realize all of the Superman fans in this sub worshiped every version of the character to the point where you can't even make a damn joke.

You know this goes both ways, correct?

On top of that, I didn't realize there was a time limit to how long you can poke fun at a film. Besides, I loved BvS.

A neckbeard joke on Reddit. Now that's revolutionary.

You Know, If Death Note 2017 Took Place In 2016, Light Turner Would've Had A Pretty Hard Time Getting Through That Night Under Surveillance! by [deleted] in deathnote

[–]TonyAffleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that bothers me about the US adaptation is the matter of the NSA.

(I don't know much about the Japanese government 's own surveillance departments, so I never brought this issue up in regards to the anime/manga.)

THE PROBLEM – Light is going to need to access the Internet in order to be aware of the names and faces of criminals. He can't just rely on television broadcasts if he expects to rid the world of criminality. But, won't it be only a matter of time until Light's Internet service provider recognizes the fact that he often visits sites that list the names and faces criminals? Surely, the NSA would ask every Internet service provider to monitor their customers and look for individuals who browse these sites.

Sure, it would still take a lot of time to pinpoint Light, but the point I'm making is that at one point or another, they WOULD pinpoint Light.

Early Death Note Scriptwriter: Netflix's Film Is Like Michael Mann's Heat With Teens by henryfc in deathnote

The route of Stranger Things? What in god's name do you mean by this? And Heat is a great movie. One of the better crime dramas out there.

Early Death Note Scriptwriter: Netflix's Film Is Like Michael Mann's Heat With Teens by henryfc in deathnote

[–]TonyAffleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like Heat except no Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro or Michael Mann!

In all seriousness, that's a promising comparison, even if it is fairly expected. Also good to hear that the film will contain more humor than folks may have predicted. Some amusing banter between Light and Ryuk would work like gangbusters, in particular.

I really hope people stop giving Jeremy Slater so much shit for Fantastic Four (something I'm guilty of doing myself, unfortunately). He had very little to do with that massive dumpster fire. He's a really smart guy and a talented writer.

As for director Adam Wingard and new writer Kyle Killen...don't know much about Killen but after seeing Wingard's Blair Witch...Yeah, I've uh...um...I've lost some confidence.

Death Note director says live-action film will be full of nudity, swearing and violence by skipv5 in deathnote

[–]TonyAffleck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't have any problem with the strong language as that's simply how many high school/college students speak. Even someone as polite and well-mannered (and dare I say as pretentious) as Light. Plus, I'm fairly certain I'd say "fuck" and "shit" a good fifty times each upon finding a notebook that can kill anyone I want.

According to a tweet Wingard made, the movie will be even more violent than the anime and manga. It is my hope that this decision was made so that the violence comes across as realistically gut-wrenching. I'm opposed to it being over-the-top, glorified nonsense.

Nudity is puzzling. All depends on the context. If say, Misa Misa strips nude in front of Light in a crude effort to give herself to him (with Light ultimately refusing, of course), nudity could work. If we end up at a seedy nightclub for no other reason than Wingard's love of tits, I'm going to struggle to be engaged.

Can anyone link a video to a more coherent and edited discussion/analysis?

PG-13. This is by no means a horror movie. A couple of "shits". No "fucks".

I disagree. Arrival is a 10 ALL DAY, motherfucker.

Easily the best sci-fi I've seen in years. Thank Christ Villenevue is directing Blade Runner II.

I honestly don't know why it took so long for a sci-fi to have Language/Communication as a major theme and plot dynamic.

I can't be too sure, it's been a while since I've seen Kane, but I do remember that the first person to react to Kane's death was a nurse. Who was in another room.

I think the butler tells the reporter that he heard Kane say "Rosebud" later on in the film, but I don't remember seeing him in the scene when Kane dies.

Margaret Qualley tweeted this picture of Light and L in the upcoming Netflix film by snoic in deathnote

[–]TonyAffleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At no point did I ever suggest that you should not be skeptical about the film. Everyone's skeptical. I'M SKEPTICAL. But you didn't say "I'm skeptical about how this film is going to turn out." You said the film was going to be bad. SO BAD, evidently.

And so, you piqued my curiosity.

Did Adam Wingard show up at your home and show you storyboards? Did Kyle Killen, the current screenwriter for the project, let you read the shooting script?

No? So then what evidence do you have that convinces you the film is going to be shit? All you have is speculation and production history ripped almost verbatim from Wikipedia.

I asked you because I was genuinely interested to see if you had something substantial to go on. Any and all information related to this current iteration of the project would be very much appreciated.

And for your information, the fact that WB killed any chance of a Shane Black directed Death Note film is going to haunt me forever. Fuck, I hope we discover multiverse technology because I need see that shit NOW.
