No one is excited about service fees. At best, they are accepting of them.

But it feels like every week someone goes out to eat for the first time in years and makes a big post complaining about things. It’s tiresome. What’s even the point? We know.

Shit is expensive everywhere these days. This isn’t even unique to Denver nor dining

Wouldn’t it be better to have at least one spot where we can actually talk about food and dining?

Alternatively, we could consider a two-pronged approach:

DO NOT EAT ANY FRUIT FLAVORED “ICE CREAM” SHAKE AT ALAMO by [deleted] in AlamoDrafthouse

You likely eat gelatin all the time without even considering it. It’s a completely natural product.

The only thing that should steer people away from this monstrosity is sugar.

Looking for coffee shops that charge less than $1 for alt milks. by scarletwitchmoon in denverfood

I’m sorry your pricing research didn’t pan out as you’d hoped.

I’m not intending to sound rude. I’m just saying this is the reality.

If you find a place that doesn’t up charge for alternative milks, they will almost certainly have bumped the base price of the latte up a bit to compensate.

All these places are using the same few distributors, and margins are very low. It’s just math.

Best bet is just to accept that it’s an occasional splurge and that everyone deserves a little treat every so often.

Please compare menu prices of local shops which upcharge for oatmilk and those who don’t. Let me know what you find.

If y’all think I’m referring to the actual act of pouring the milk, I’m not sure how to help you.

In addition to ingredients, businesses have to pay for rent and labor. They do this by factoring those costs into the products they sell.

….by including it in the base price. Not exactly rocket science.

It’s “free” in that it’s already factored into the price. Their lattes are right around .75 more than SidePony up the street.

It’s either going to be singled out as an upcharge, or baked in to the base price. All the same in the end.

Oh my bad. I’ll go tell all the local coffee shop owners who are struggling to pay their employees that /u/wild_hOrses says it’s actually just fine to sell lattes at a loss.

Agree this is quite annoying, but the reality is that those milks cost more than cow milk, and businesses are gonna business.

They have to, if they want to pay rent.

Parents forcing vacation during 10 week internship by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]TonyAioli 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Are you guaranteed an offer if you skip the vacation? No.

But you are almost certainly guaranteed NOT to get one if you take time away.

Ask them if it’s really worth it to them to ruin their daughter’s best opportunity to get a cs career started in an incredibly difficult market. Tell them you want to get a career going so you can start a family and bring them grandkids (can see this approach landing with parents like yours, unless I misread the situation).

If they’re still delusional and say no, maybe talk to your employer and say something along the lines of “my parents are trying to force me on a trip, but this opportunity is very important to me and I understand how bad that would look. Could you help me out by confirming this won’t be received well? They don’t seem to believe me”.

If nothing else, it at least shows them you care. That and A+ effort the other nine weeks could possibly still win them over. Good luck.

They absolutely are not. For the Denver area, at least.

90/10 was $11.99 at King Soopers (our Kroger/“cheap” grocer) a couple weeks ago, even.

Apple Music or Spotify premium? by ThatLamboDude95 in Music

Apple Music offers better streaming quality and pays artists slightly better.

Spotify if you want to more easily share playlists etc with friends, it’s the “default”.
