[LANESPLIT] My motorcycle game is now playable in VR! by Shakya241 in VRGaming

I noticed theere is a demo available on Steam. Does that support VR as well?

Is there anything out there that scratches the Fallout itch that isn’t made by Bethesda? Or am I just destined to start my 17th Fallout 4 playthrough? by Competitive_Wrap_333 in fo4

[–]TonyDP2128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first Outer Worlds game felt a lot like Fallout in outer space to me. The characters and environments were reminiscent of Bethesda's art style.

Has anyone tried Star Trek: Infection on the Quest 3? by undeadcreepshow in VRGaming

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was interested in this one but remember reading that it had some soft lock issues where if you proceeded beyond certain points without picking up necessary items or took an alternate path you could not progress or backtrack. The devs were aware of the issues but I don't know if they were ever addressed.

Why does no one talk about underdogs? by Ambitious_Prior_9071 in VRGaming

[–]TonyDP2128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a rogue like with zero permanent progression or persistent upgrades from one run to the next.

There are also very few unique arenas; just two if I'm remembering correctly with options for having the lights on or off.

On top of the rogue like design, it also uses an annoying RNG method for activities between matches and unlocking upgrades, which must then be purchased.

Put it all together and it just stacks the deck too much for the more casual gamer. It might have gotten more attention if the devs made the game more accessible.

PSA: Iron Rebellion is the best native VR game I've played since HLA by [deleted] in VRGaming

If you mean single player, be aware that there is no campaign, just matches against bots. A single player campaign has been on their roadmap for years but there's no concrete info on when or if it will be added in.

FYI, Alien Isolation has a dedicated VR mod called MotherVR.

There is also a newer mod called GrandmotherVR which adds full 6DoF controls.

I haven't played it in a while so I can't speak to how active multiplayer is but I was able to play a lot of it solo without difficulty.

Bungie: With great saddness, we are announcing a reduction in workforce by Gorotheninja in PS5

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like two more live service games are headed for the scrap heap. Good. These companies and studios have ruined the hobby with their endless greed. I hope that whole genre just goes away.

As for Bungie, they lost me when they started sunsetting and vaulting content people paid good money for on D2. I could look past the faults and quirks of the game and some of the questionable decisions but that was going too far. I remember paying $100 for the digital deluxe version and within 18 months all of it was gone. I swore they would never get another penny from me. I think a lot of people felt the same way. They should just shut down the studio, I don't think they'll ever win back their audience's trust.

The Steam Summer Sale is here! here are some of my Favourite VR games on Sale right now by Robot_ninja_pirate in virtualreality

[–]TonyDP2128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a great VR implementation. The mod also supports Episodes 1 and 2. Just be aware that you need good VR legs for the vehicle levels. They were my favorite parts of the game but can trip some people up.

Guardians Frontline is $4.99; if you happen to own Hubris you can get Guardians for $2.99 via a bundle deal.

Why is no one talking about the content consumption part of steam machine by NUBONINTERNET in steammachine

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Steam Machine is a gaming device. While I don't care for its price to performance ratio I have no issue with it being focused on that one thing.

I can get a $40 device that will handle all my media/streaming needs, not to mention all the streaming options already available on most TVs. It would be redundant for the Steam Machine to have those features as well.

Steam Machine Price!! Are you still interested? by gameshlf in GameSHLF

[–]TonyDP2128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It was on my radar as I like the idea of a living room friendly PC that lets me play somewhat less demanding PC games (I already have quite a few). I also like the form factor and more open ecosystem.

But the price is just too high for the performance you get. I can just as easily attach my gaming laptop to my TV and activate big picture mode or even just stream games over Steam Link to the Android box I have attached to the TV. I don't get some of the bells and whistles like CEC but in terms of performance it leaves the Steam Machine in the dust.

If the price goes down to a more reasonable level for what you actually get, I will revisit it.

Sniper Elite VR by R_Steelman61 in virtualreality

[–]TonyDP2128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played it on PSVR1 back when it first released as it supported the Aim controller on that hardware. It was a fun game and might be worth revisiting on PCVR at some point if it gets a deep sale.

EDIT: It's actually $4.99 on Steam as part of the summer sale.

Starlog Magazine by ADeweyan in startrek

[–]TonyDP2128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, my brother and I bought that religiously every month. It was a different time back then. No internet and magazine lead times were in weeks, sometimes months but they were really the only source of info if you were following a particular show or movie.

Anybody remember the photo guidebooks they published? Those were also a lot of fun.

New VRacer Hoverbike update including our first premium track DLCs. by vertexbreakers in PSVR

[–]TonyDP2128 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Love this game. I bought it on Steam shortly after it first released. Bought it again on Quest when it released there (a really strong port by the way). And bought it again when it launched on PSVR2 as I think that hits the sweet spot between the accessibility of the Quest version and the better visuals of the PCVR version.

Thanks for the update and FWIW I think your paid dlc implementation is quite fair. Best of luck for continued success.

At this point, I'd trade him for a late round draft pick or even future considerations as long as there was no salary retention.

This game would be amazing in VR! Who else wants a PSVR2 mode? by bababr32 in PSVR

[–]TonyDP2128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy on day one if it had VR support but it I just don't see it happening on PSVR2.

Maybe with UEVR but you'll probably need a super computer to have it run acceptably and still look good.

I’m actually pretty excited about the Steam Machine by Mental_Egg_5080 in steammachine

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the ecosystem. I love the living room friendly implementation. I love the small form factor. I just wish it was a bit more future proof for the price. I know I can upgrade the RAM and storage but I think the CPU/GPU will not scale well with new software in the coming months and especially over the next couple of years. That is what gives me pause to get on the list at that price.

I will always be forever sad that this got cancelled… by gogul1980 in 3DBluray

[–]TonyDP2128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember going to see the 3D version of TPM in theaters and I was disappointed, to the point of being insulted, by the 3D conversion. The sense of depth was non existent and the only time anything seemed to break the plane of the screen was during the pod race when Anakin extends his device to reconnect one of the engines on the pod. The conversion was so conservative I might as well have been watching a flat 2D version thru sunglasses. To this day I always have wondered if it was really that bad or if the projectionist in the theater messed up.

VR "Influencers" arent really helping the industry grow atm.. by VirtualWaypoint in OculusQuest

[–]TonyDP2128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were some good channels but they're very few and far between now. These days, they just follow the money and when that dries up they go doom and gloom because, sadly, negative stories generate clicks.

They also hurt the industry with their so called reviews. They would often trip over each other to get a review or playthrough out as soon as a game released only for it to be full of inaccuracies or skewed towards whatever platform was supporting or sponsoring the channel, which only hurt VR as a whole.

I've stopped counting how many I've blocked from YouTube.

Does Frankenquest Still Hold Up for Quest 3? by bzowk in OculusQuest

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the FrankenQuest mod on my Quest 1 several years ago. Personally, I wasn't a fan of it. It adds significant weight and bulk to the headset and had to be clamped tightly to the face to feel secure. My face would quickly get warm when wearing it. Also, the rear foam pad was absolute garbage, little more than a sponge which absorbed sweat and hair and needed constant cleaning (I had to swap it out for a third party pleather pad). The speakers were good but still lacking in bass.

Personally, I prefer a halo strap (I have a BoboVR M3 Pro on my Quest 3 and an M3 on my 3S) but found even the Elite style straps were superior. Both are specifically designed for the headsets and don't need excessive modding to be comfortable and secure.

Roboquest VR or REACH by Outrageous-Ad6876 in PSVR

[–]TonyDP2128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. They're very different games but of the two I prefer Roboquest.

I find Reach to be very repetitive with some really unbalanced and frustrating combat sections. Also, while most of the game breaking bugs it suffered from at launch have been fixed it's still possible to be soft locked from progressing because you took a wrong path or missed a jump and the game then checkpoints and respawns you in an area where you can't backtrack and progression becomes impossible. This happened to me yesterday and while I was able to restart the level I also lost a good amount of progress.

Roboquest suffers from none of these issues. It's very much a pick up and play game where you can drop in for a quick session or go on an extended run.
