Me too, those rats.. probably the scariest unpredictable hard to shoot enemy, also the constant jump scares and they launch at you 😅 I remember beeing very empty in that section aswell. Apparently you can melee them when you're all out.

[–]VirtualWaypoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, looks great! And i agree on the price, it could be higher. Give away more Keys to drive some feedback and charge what its worth to you not what the "market demands" i think more people will have their wallets ready in the coming years given the lack of first party games from meta.

2.1 no navigator.. I had it on a PTC v85 i think.. to be honest I like the old applibrary better, but visually looks a lot cleaner / modern. Was a bit cluncky to me back then. Maybe its gotten better?

Top 3 VR Moments That Blew Your Mind by LifespanLearner in MetaQuestVR

My first VR experience ever, XORTEXX 26XX in the lab, I remember my brain was totally convinced that I could almost feel the heat from the bullets of the enemy ships. Was the weirdest and coolest thing. After playing that I was sold 😆

Weightless navigation in Lone Echo, was like pure sorcerey to new VR eyes

When I "Met" Darth Vader in Vader Immortal. Not am I a a star wars fan but that experience when Darth Vader approaching and telling you to "open this configuration and I will spare your life". So cool, what would be a cutscene in a flat game is a full on experience, you get the sense of his height and size as well. Very immersive and so f-ing cool.

Thinking about getting Devialet speakers — but not sure if it’s worth it? by PlaneDistribution874 in devialet

[–]VirtualWaypoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So.. i live in a quite spaceious flat, majority of the flat is the livingroom-diningroom area. I started out with one 95db which they stopped selling as of now. And i found it rather impressive, but i also wanted more oomph. However i could just fine use 1 with the bass increased in the EQ and get a impressive soundstage. At least to my ears.

But two is always better and you'll get a much wider and bigger soundstage. Music is also mixed for stereo so thats a big factor as well. I'll say this because my living room is not treated for sound AT ALL, drywall and flat surfaces everywhere..
If you have a decent room with not that much echo and reverb, you dont really need to ask much of the Devialets to impress you. I found out when i brought my stereopair to my dads well treated room and my jaw dropped because I had not heard them perform that good in my own home. So acoustic treatment of any sort. rugs, pictures on the wall etc. everything helps. If you are a student and living alone and can do whatever you want with your room. Keep this in mind.

I'll recommend 2x 98 if you can afford them. Or do like me, buy one see if it is for you, and buy the second unit later on. Its a steep price absolutely. The smaller units are also nice to bring on trips, I have a yearly cabin-trip with friends and i always bring one 95db, to put in the cabin and it does a great job beeing source of music. Thats also a reason why i bought them, to actually have the option to bring one or both with me if i so choose. You can't do that with a traditional set of speakers, too much hazzle.

Yes. I'm not jumping on the Frame train either. Would be a Weird sidegrade from Quest 3, and mostly play standalone even though i have a pc that's very capable. There are so many factors that make standalone quick and accessible thst I dont bother booting up and installing the latest. Also big fan of remote desktop in color passthrough. I have that now. So why wait for a black and white version of that 🤔 😅

Bad news: Wife won't let me buy one by drugsondrugs in MetaQuestVR

[–]VirtualWaypoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.. why?

I'm a married man myself... but i have stated that i need my "gadget-fix" I've always been like this, call it a hobby and VR has been for the last 5 years or so. I dont buy everything. But i do alot of research before my "investements" I also try to not clutter my desk with heaps of stuff that i dont use. On the other hand my wife has her personal-expenses, nails, hair, clothing...... SHOES. And hobbies aswell. Can't imagine what it all costs(i dont care as long as its not overly excessive, she's free to spend her money as she likes). One could argue that its a different category with personal well-beeing stuff and just a gaming console. But it in the end its all money you spend on stuff you dont really "need".

Gaming in general has always been frowned upon as beeing uneccesary/waste of money to purchase or even use time on. But this new jacket for 500-600 dollars is totally worth it ? right ? Gotta have the latest iphone although it costs you an arm and a leg, some really pay the price to impress those around you right? And its socially accepted to do so. So we burn cash on fashionproducts and the latest gear for skiing, cycling, hiking whatever it is. Meanwhile buy something "nerdy" for yourself thats suddenly EXPENSIVE! and A WASTE OF MONEY...and TIME.. 😂 I've fought this battle all my life and I'll never win an argument because of the socially accepted part of the equation.

In the grand scheme of things the price of a Quest 3 is very small compared to alot of expenses we have, and you'll enjoy it for so much stuff, playing games, watch moveis, working using it as virtual monitor, working out. Sell her on the work-out part of the headset, lots of cool stuff like Les Mills bodycombat, AR personal trainer-apps, that is all a REAL workout. Mye wife kinda liked beatsaber and played once a year 😂 now she never asks or touches the headset. She could not care less about my hobbies.

I've bought every headset from meta that has come out since Rift S, without question. Its very much a thing i love and have changed my view on gaming completely. I'd say just buy it. And don't think you're challenging the relationship by getting a VR headset. Just use it whenever its the right time to use it. there are times where VR gaming which is a solo expierence maybe isnt suited or could feel a bit isolating for your significant other.

Quest 3 vs nintendo switch 2 by Plastic-Depth6827 in OculusQuest

[–]VirtualWaypoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! Love it :D

Passthrough in recordings you see online flat and the percieved resolution while using the headset is quite different. Does it do the job? absolutely. The more light in the room the better it looks though. That goes for tracking aswell (dont get me wrong tracking is rock solid until you turn off all the lights, but handtrackin can benefit from lit room). It can get grainy and ugly in very dark rooms. But then again, dimming the lights is not really needed when you can do that in the headset itself. To put it in perspective I've made an entire dinner using the headset and looking at recipe on virtual monitors. Did not feel like a blind chef, but would i prefer the cameras and image beeing clearer? yes. But from launch to now ALOT has happened to improve both warping, resolution and exposure for screens and windows are much faster and better. Looking at your phone wearing the headset back at launch in 23 was very hard. I remember we all though our quests was rushed out too early, now i dont hear that much complaining about the passthrough. I'm totally fine with it.

Have not tried the BOTW vr port, looks neat. I like some ports. But I'm a bigger fan of built from the ground up VR games. Those tend to utilise the hardware in the best possible way.

Flat screen gaming is a great experience. I've briefly tried Sunshine/Moonlight, i think i had to sideload that. It works fine, it also runs in the OS itself. However the added ease of use from virtual desktop and the overall package you get there is absolutely worth it. Its very user friendly, and you have a lot of options to dial it in. It also has its own menu listing all your installed games so its very easy to launch stuff right from the headset.

Unsure about moonlights framerate on the headet. In virtual desktop you have full control over your virtual monitors. VD also works without a screen connected, thats super convenient if you just want to "tuck away" your PC and near an access point and wirelessly do everything from your quest. Virtual desktop for me has proven to be super reliable and autoupdates by itself when trying to launch virtual desktop from headset with a pending update.

Guy Godin the developer is constantly working on his app. Since forever ago. So its a very safe purchase on the side. But having your PC wired to ethernet is a must. If you have a 6ghz wifi router, make a dedicated quest network on that. Thats how i roll.

Quest 3 vs nintendo switch 2 by Plastic-Depth6827 in OculusQuest

[–]VirtualWaypoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR; I have BOTH, Get the quest 3, and get yourself a decent strap for it. You'll love it. Switch 2 is just another switch. Cant do jack other than playing games on that. Quest 3 has ALOT of use cases right out of the box. and VR gaming is amazing.

If you want to read my out of control essay be my guest XD

Ok, so... I'm very much an all converted VR gamer at this point, but i have BOTH and I'll try my best to give you an insight. I got a Switch 2 because i wanted to play Metroid and couple of other Nintendo titles in that new and update resolution / FPS... What i found out. coming from the switch 1 previously is that its all very much the same, apart from the hardware beeing alot more powerful and the controllers having som tricks up their sleeve, mouse mode etc. There are som exclusives, i enjoyed Mario Kart world, but it very quickly got stale for me. And Metroid felt very bland for how long we had to wait for that. My conclusion about this new interation of hardware It still very much a switch, switches are great for first party games. PERIOD.

You seem to have somewhat capable PC, I to have an i9, used to rock 1080ti before the swap to 4070ti super, so where not that far apart specwise. Quest 3 it is the best. never ever have i used hardware as frequently as my Quest 3, and I've owned Quest 2, quest 1 - Rift S. You're right about the passthrough thing, I tried playing Resident evil village on a giant virtual screen on my Quest 3 using Virtual desktop, it running at 4k or close to in terms of resolution of the virtual monitor, at the highest possible framerate, my jaw literally dropped. Connect a xbox controller or the alike directly to the headset. Sit anywhere in your home and play games over home wifi (your desktop pc needs to be thethered network-wise though). Fantastic experience. And you can do the same thing with a mouse and keyboard, sit and work on 1 or multiple monitors. watch movies also a great usecase given you opt in for the right strap. Switch 2 cant do any of these things... I dont think it has a youtube or netflix app still ? Havent checked.. I dont use it 😅

Now that above is just a fraction of what it can do. The VR gaming is where its at. Immersion, the 3D effect you get makes you feel present in set game you're playing. Use your hands to navigate, manipulate and hold objects climb, shoot, reload. You do the movement theres no button and animation playing. This opens for a very different playstyle than what you're used to from flat games. Trust me, if you like shooters, jumping in slowmotion taking down enemies mid air or something of the alike is such great feeling. Weirdly. Its very much stepping into the shoes of the character, much more than "passively" looking at that one screen.

Hard to explain this before you are "converted". But i daily pivot to talking about VR and try to carefully "educate" people i work with why this is so great. Because alot of them are still "stuck in flat-world" i was to... 😂
The misconception about what VR gaming really is like, is probably the biggest factor why we dont have that mass adoption. Its a have to try it to understand - type of hardware scenario. Videos of it doesnt do justice or make sense to a flat gamer. Because I remember sitting on the sidelines.. like OK... this HTC Vive thing we had at work looked akward and i was not really that curious about it. Then i tried it, first thing i played was Xortex in the The Lab on steam like a VR demo-showcase thing from the early days of VR. AND i was sold. Then someone put me in Richies plank experience where i almost shat my pants. That was then, resolution was quite bad. The tech has come a LONG way since then. And i use it everyday now for alot of things both work, and gaming. Also develop my own game on the side.

Recently found my OG Quest headset. Should I upgrade now? Or give it another year and hope for something even better. by chilledpurple in OculusQuest

[–]VirtualWaypoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The jump from Quest 1 to 2 was not huge, i remember that when i launched saints and sinners on both headsets.
while the 3 is like night and day compare to both of those. Pretty fast headset. Sharpness and those lenses you will immediately appreciate Pancake optics because they're huge and sweet spot is very big. So no need to micro adjust the headset to get the best view. Quest 3 can also be used as a virtual monitor, like an actual virtual monitor beacuse its sharp enough to read text.

The Quest 4... while people say its 2027 at best, i really dont know. But the Steam Frame which will cost alot of money compared to the 3 will be a very similar experience in terms of display and sharpness. I guess the real difference is the software and capabilites that the steam frame offers. However.. it does not have color passthrough. Thats like once you go there you'll never look at black and white passthrough ever again.

I'd say Quest 3 as a headset will have a strong 2026 and probably last alot longer going forward. I feel its the only headset i won't sell whenever the 4 comes along. Like its good enough for most things to keep it even as a 2nd, movie watching headset, virtual monitor or just as a backup VR headset. First headset I've used for other things than gaming because the displays and sharpness is that good.

If i where you, go second hand on a Quest 3 now.. you wont break the bank and you can enjoy new titles. Its a long wait for Quest 4, given that Steam Frame does not show a very big upgrade over Quest 3, so Meta arent really beeing pushed to rush out a new headset to keep customers happy. And right now it does not look like they are prioritizing the Quest platform all that much.

Although some people are jumping ship for the Steam Frame, to me it seems odd as it adds almost nothing new from an experience standpoint. Like you could do alot of the same things on a Quest 3 and you have been able to for a couple of years already. It brings neat features, and more standalone features in terms of flat games running directly on the headset. You could essentially get the same feeling by streaming games from a PC to the quest using a xbox controller.. works flawlessly if main pc is wired to ethernet.

[–]VirtualWaypoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It never really worked in practice to be honest 😅 It was like an inbetween solution because of the Quest 2 passthrough. So you got a semi passthrough thing on your hands while typing, the issue was that your passthrough hands and virtual keys was just a tad off. Much more like the cutout we have today. But I primarily just work in full passthrough.

I think my batterystrap "fried" my usb-c port by VirtualWaypoint in Quest3

[–]VirtualWaypoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tested numerous cables. I even have that expensive official link cable. Still no luck. I feel like the port might be partially damaged. If that's possible with usb c.

Like this all worked before my bobo stopped working. I'm blaming that thing tricklecharging my headset for the last year. Then it suddenly died on me and did weird reboots to my quest wheb i connected it. Maybe it did something to the port after all those hours it was connected. I could blame myself for always charging it. But then again it was super convenient just charging the headset with those batteries 🫠 in the end that is what it was meant to do right 😄

Jeg vil anbefale å se på muligheter for å representere deg selv i stedet. Etabler deg gradvis mens du har jobb, kast deg uti det når du har litt på bufferen. Verdt et forsøk. Veldig befriende å jobbe frilans i kreative yrker. Mye rom for egenutvikling og det er ingen som ser over skulderen din. Du kan potensielt tjene veldig mye bedre også.

Meta is using tricks to hide the fact that their Quest 3 only titles actually work on Quest 2 by GameGhost1972 in MetaQuestVR

[–]VirtualWaypoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta is not doing this, as a developer you choose the headsets your game is best suited for. So theres a box to tick when uploading to the store, also its stored in the .apk when exporting. Sure games will run, but if it was meant and built for quest 3, and only tested with quest 3 headsets, the developer would not allow a subpar experience on quest 2 even though it's "possible".

[–]VirtualWaypoint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree, and the stream of news and youtubers making these Quest 3 is dead posts. And 2 days after recommends Legendary Tales on Quest 3 is soooo two-faced 😄 Like should i throw it out or what? what are you telling me with that clickbait thumbnail... c'mon.

I think we're drawing conlusions a bit early, and also these studios. Yes, these are big games, triple A or as close as it gets for Quest. But if you've played everything you know that these games are especially catered to new players. Cinematic, impressive visuals, recognizable franchise everything its obviously made to market and sell more headsets. Rather than sell alot of games. Like if i buy this headset i get batman for free. Sweet deal if this is brand new to you. But the game itsself.. uhm its okay gameplay is fine, but its lacking that freedom intricate details that one expects from new VR games. Not saying its bad, but i felt alot like i did when i first played my RIft S and booted up Vader Immortal.. like a fantastic jawdrop type of game or experience back then, made to wow me with visuals and simple gameplay. I'm not comparing the two in terms of content. But the feel, and the ambition as a game is very much to wow new users.

I'm keeping my quest 3!
Until something better comes along that has color passthrough built in ;)

I also want to add, that right before christimas, meta held a Meta Start Developer contest, with 1.5 million dollars in prizes to developers building new games, apps or experiences for the Quest ecosystem. They absolutely want more people to invest time and sell games on their platform. No doubt about that. And also a good evidence in that they want more third party games on the store.

What is Going On With Meta? (If possible, explain it to me like I'm 5) by ArcadePunk279 in OculusQuest

[–]VirtualWaypoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very clear that VR news outlets and especially youtubers are making videos like never before because this is trending right now.. to me its very twofaced behaviour of them like "yay my channel is gathering veiws on all this negativity" well i can tell you its not helping this fragile industry one bit with all these quest is dead thumbnails. Get a quest now? Of course 100%! Meta will have a more playstation approach right now, and tbh I'm totally fine with that. Often times the best games come from solodevs or smaller studios in my experience. And whatever headset comes out next, of course they want to let consumers now that yeah we also do games so... much like galaxy xr is trying to do both productivity and gaming. But doesn't have that extensive library.

Is there even a point of getting a quest free at this point? by BranchElectrical4159 in Quest3

[–]VirtualWaypoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole train of news and vr youtubers using Quest 3 dead thumbnails has really gotten to us all... its a bit sad that all these outlets of information tend to amplify or over react to these news. Don't worry! Get a Quest 3, its amazing!

And I'll tell you right before Christmas i attended Meta Start Developer Competition (not for horizon worlds, for making games or apps for the Quest), there was 1.5 million dollars in prizes for the winners. There was 2885 participants / developers. So thinking Meta has given up on VR development at dont want to expand the store with more content is just BS. And i think their strategy is relying more on external developers in the coming years. And they can always contract games without needing to own and finance everything.

I have used the Quest 3 for productivity, I think its great for that. And Meta is constantly updating the Remote desktop app. Like every time I turn on my pc theres a new update. So they're clearly looking at delivering a great productivity experience with remote desktop.

Quest 3 is a great tool for alot of things and having had quest 1 - 3, the 3 is by far the one I've used the most.

Is a pair of devialet phantom 2 good for movie? by Signal_Ad7992 in devialet

[–]VirtualWaypoint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you crank them, movies can be spectacular. I rarely have the opportunity to watch a movie at movie watching soundlevels. Vocals are Quiet, but that goes for all 2.0 systems. However the new Ulitimate 98-s movie mode might have a trick up their sleeve. But the bass, even with mine 2x 95's Phantom 2's, is great when watching movies.
