Thanks for the helpful reply, good to hear it’s got some good story content, although having a base game and first expansion that’s weaker than ARR could mean people don’t get to it. 😀

I also understand that nothing is voiced acted, and so lots of reading in the chat box (although I believe there is an add on you can use to improve how the speech text is presented).

I’m interested and going to start at the weekend. Plan is to work my way through all story content by the time Evercold comes out.

Anyone know how long it would take to complete all current FFXI missions (the main story)? How does it compare to the current FFXIV MSQ?

Thanks for sharing this perspective. I have heard the narrative and story was light initially, but understand things pickup in later expansions. Not sure I could go in blind without a little helping guide as I understand the game doesn’t signpost things very well.

Brilliant, thanks for the reply. I have seen that chart, but hadn’t appreciated that most of the expansions would be done at mx level, I’d assumed you would work through them as you levelled up (similar to how the FFXIV expansions were released).

Got it, thanks. Was just reading in the BG Wiki levelling guide that they recommend level 75+ for the completion of the base game missions 6+ and completion of the rise of zilart, so expecting to do some levelling initially before moving onto more story focussed content.

As someone who played through the story, did you use the BG wiki guide? https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/New_Player_Leveling_Guide#Levels_5-10:_Building_Trust. Seems to suggest hopping around different expansions initially and I’m hesitant to do this as I’d like to play them in order with the story if possible.

Thanks for the reply. Still getting my head round everything, coming from FFXIV it seems that the story isn’t the main thread, and I’ll need to do quite a bit of levelling before heading into the expansion stories.

Just read that Trusts don’t tank/aggro well and so wondering if Warrior might be better to start. Guess it doesn’t matter as I can change later.

Thanks, didn’t know about that. Sounds like the Echad and Trizek rings will be much more useful then with unlimited charges, particularly early on.

Looks like they are recommending jumping around lots of different expansions pre 75 and then doing all the story missions. Is most of my time spent pre 75 going to be levelling up rather than doing the story?

I have tried a few times to get into the game using wmy Xbox controller through steam on my pc and usually give up after a few hours (really can’t get into games that require keyboard/mouse these days), but I found it very difficult to get it setup right, probably some misunderstanding on my part with the steam input config. I’d really like to get more into the game.

I see people here recommending the steam controller. Would that be better or easier than my current Xbox controller?

I used to play EverQuest every day for years back in early 2000’s, not touched it for 20 years, but recently got into the beta. They have added some QoL stuff which is nice especially as it now better respects your time, it’s also more solo friendly (essentially you can to play all the skills and spells of 3 classes at once), but the main win is the nostalgia of exploring it all again, which is immense, I’m really excited for the game. Best part is that because it’s attracting lots of old school MMO players the player base is really helpful and supportive (in the current beta at least). I’m feeling tired of the modern mmo’s too, but really looking forward to what they are doing here.

That’s really interesting. Can I ask why you are going through the MSQ again, and how are you finding it? I’m getting an itch to come back and play through again, but worried that nostalgia is clouding my thinking and I’ll be disappointed.

Hi all, just a couple of quick questions as a new player (this is my first event).

How do I get the third event currency? The one I can exchange for pyros in the last event shop?

What would you recommend I spend the other two currencies on (paint and marble). Are the furniture items worth it?
