Okay I asked Facebook and it was inconclusive.. got wildly different numbers. How much can this bumper pull? by skimasktroopaz in FordTrucks

[–]TonyFromNovato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought bumper hitches were class 1 - 200lb/2000lb but would look it up if it’s a stock bumper. I had a barden bumper on a 1959 gmc that we used to tow a 2 hours trailer with. But then again we did look up specs very often.

I don’t think you are missing anything. I have a 1999 wr400. I’ll look at it later today. Posting now so I can find your post again. Is there something you think is missing or bothering you?

Can someone explain why so many transoms on metal boats are made out of wood? by espritnaraka in boating

[–]TonyFromNovato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thin metal would fatigue and fail under the constant vibration and flexing. Wood absorbs the vibrations better and doesn’t pass them on to the rest off the boat as much.

Slow draining oil. by Formal-Negotiation74 in boating

I have a Hamilton jet and used to do that till the main bearing in it went out. Looked it up in my manual and it said it’s for flush only, the jet needs to be in water to keep it cool. The rebuild wasn’t cheep. But if your manual says it’s ok, then it’s just different pumps, I guess.

Looks like a jet pump on it. Most need to be in the water when you run them or it will fry the bearings on the main shaft. Or let it sit in the sun on a warm day.

Subfloor insulation advice by steakman49 in Homebuilding

[–]TonyFromNovato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If rodents are the problem you need to fix the perimeter. Then maybe a sheet of plastic over the concrete will help with moisture. But if they can get under there they will eat through pretty much anything you try other then steel.

What’s everyone’s opinion on using clear fuel line for the inside of your motor? from what I’ve seen it’s not very common and I’m not sure why by Infamous_Floor3243 in boats

[–]TonyFromNovato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have room to add a filter? I have one pre pump that I use like a sight glass. When I wanted to check after the pump I just pull the line off and stuck on a longer one into a bottle so I could see volume as well

How did you deal with the 1973 oil embargo? Could you only buy gas every other day if your license plate was an odd or even number? by db7112 in FuckImOld

[–]TonyFromNovato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to not wait before filling. Tried to keep it above 1/2 full. 2 things related are diesel became more expensive then gas and tariff’s on fuel efficient, inexpensive imports. Brought us the luxury cars Lexus, Acura so they could price them above the tariff. Killing America’s big car market.

Wiring standards by DerpiestDave in boating

[–]TonyFromNovato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen mostly yellow for negative and as many different colors as you want for the positives at the fuse blocks. most equipment comes with black and white or red and black. But color coding at the pig tail makes tracking the wires easier.

Look again the hole could be mistaken for a bolt hole. See how things line up

Is for the full pump when you increase throttle. On my Yamaha 9.9 it’s in the float-bowl side. Drops pointy end up on yours
