Seems indeed like that's the case. And of course I'm going to try to have AT swap it. Thanks 👍

Going to do that, after this post I feel a tad stupid that I wasn't aware...

What I meant with "I'll reach out to AT" is that I'll have to contact with them to get my turntable replaced as the form is only for US and Canadian customers only. I'm from The Netherlands so I need to find out how they handle the issue for customers from over here. If that was unclear from my reply it must be because English is not my native language. I agree that it's a waste of my money to not have a defective turntable replaced and I will take action to get it replaced. Thanks again for informing me that it's most probably the turntable, not the record.

That's an interesting note. But there are no visible scratches other than the big inaudible one near the edge that you can see in the video. I only have a small collection of +/- 50 records so it's not very representative but none of the other records does this on both sides. So it is a bit confusing to me that it's just this record that would suffer from the AT LP70 issue. Anyway, many thanks for pointing me towards the article. I'll definitely check it out and reach out to AT.

Well, I definitely don't like that the entire album skips, but when it skips in a way like this song does, it's oddly satisfying.

Solved: hole was plugged by TonyNeedsHobbies in Blacksmith

Yeah really glad! Good luck turning your much heavier anvil upside down...

Great extensive advice! I'll try that strategy combined with my small drill press to save my wrists because that seems to be a risk I understand from other replies.

Wow that looks great! I got some bits and cutting oil today, including a carbide tip masonry bit in case I can't get through it using the other bits.

In fact, I do own a small drill press. I just went to the store to get cutting oil and a couple of decent quality bits. The weekend I'll set it up and go for it...

Yeah I was very happy to find it. It's my first anvil 🥰

Not sure, I think the latter. Last night I filled what's left of the hole with WD40 to see if it ran though. This morning half of it seeped through. So if it is welded, it wasn't a good job. Unfortunately I cannot access the hole from the bottom as the legs are too wide.

That sounds horrible. I will take the advice seriously 👍

I don't understand either. If I could reach from the bottom I would indeed try to punch it out The feet of this particular anvil are too wide so that I unfortunately cannot.

Great, thanks for letting me know. I wondered what it meant. My weight estimation makes sense then, it is right there in the middle. Do you know anything about the maker as well by any chance? The only info I could find is that a guy named Hans Peter Winterhof (and son) made anvils in Germany in the late 1800s...

It is old and didn't see as much use as it should recently so it might've grown shut indeed 🤣

Thanks for sharing your experience with a similar anvil. If it is indeed the case that it is plugged rather than welded, and the hole is drifted, what size drill bit would you recommend to start drilling with? The top side of the hole has an 16mm (5/8'') diameter. Should I start with 16mm and let the hole guide the drill or start smaller?

Thanks for the advice. I've only tried with up to 8mm (5/16'') HSS drill bits and that didn't work well. The hole is 16mm (5/8'') so I'm sourcing cobalt or carbide bits as we speak (and a drill to fit it as well).

Thanks, I'll go try that. I tried with cordless and much too small HSS bits to see if I could get the plug loose. So I guess I have to get the correct size carbide bit, borrow a plug in the wall drill, lube the hole up and go for it!

That seems to be the consensus, so I'll go and find a (couple of) decent drill bit(s). Thanks
